The Jacobite - October 2017

Largely overcast weather in the Scottish Highlands for the last couple of weeks of this years 'Jacobite' trains operated by West Coast Railways. We visited from Wednesday 18th.October until Tuesday 24th. LNER K1 No.62005 was in service until Friday 20th. when LMS Black Five took over for the final week of this years operation. Most of the video was filmed between Wednesday and Friday, when although mostly cloudy, there was the rare bright patch with Friday afternoon seeing very still conditions on the lochs. Locations as follows;
45407 - Fort William Junction
62005 - Corpach followed by Glenfinnan Viaduct
Two views of 45407 and 62005 climbing away from Glenfinnan
Two views at Beasdale Tunnel No.3 of 62005 and 45407
45407 - Beasdale Station
Two views of 45407 approaching Morar and working away
62005 - Loch Dubh
62005 - Loch Nan Uamh Viaduct
45407 - Loch Eilt

    All these TV companies who produced weird shots of wheels going round and drown out the sound of the Loco with silly music should be made to watch your videos, this is how to make a video of steam trains, Brilliant, thankyou for your efforts, they are much appreciated.

    They do indeed. That's the 2nd unsuccessful attempt at riding The Jacobite - and we tried to book at least 4 months in advance! Only 'turn up and go' tickets were available on the days we could travel - we just couldn't risk the hours of driving and then be disappointed. WCR must be doing well on the income.

    Thanks very much for your kind comments. As you have discovered I did use an X920 until earlier this year when I bought a Panasonic VX870 which shoots in 4K. First time I used it was for the Foxfield gala. I'd still recommend the X920 if you can find one as it is still a fine camera and has the advantage over the X870 in that it has three imaging chips so filming in low light is much better than the X870 which only has the one. I'm waiting for them to bring out a 4K version of the X920 which would be perfect!

    @@acw71000 Thanks so much for your response. I'm searching for the video as well. I vaguely recall the footage,but,it was similar to a video of LMS 46233 Over the S & C on the CME 22/7/2017. One of these days I might be lucky,or,someone may remember their comments on the footage. Why? It's just driving my nutty,because I can't remember. I will keep the name you mentioned. It could very well have been that driver,but,the discussion was aimed at the driver's ability to adjust the regulator,and,apparently he was known for the particular "sound" he managed to create. Awrabest,Allison

    One of the best known drivers was a gentleman named Bill Andrew who retired several years ago and another was Gordon Hodgson who retired a year ago. Gordon was very popular with railway enthusiasts because of his style of driving!
