In the next couple of scenes.. He stated what had happened was impossible.. So as a teacher, a human he couldn't mentally believe what he was seeing, he became in awe or the typical flight or fight or freeze response. Notice once he realized or accepted what was happening he did try and stop it by knocking the Jacob's ladder down. What would you have done? He couldn't even believe what he was seeing!!!! He even stated that "It was like the electricity was coming outta him through the whole building" Meaning they all felt it. And possibly in the first few moments physically COULDN'T do anything
one of the best films ever made...watched at least three of four scenes every two or three years...this year i'm due to see it entirely once again...for some reason the main charactrr always resembles michael jackson to me...longb4 mj was gone...

One of the best movie I have seen in a long time
Jeff Goldblum is the new and accidental Borris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Peter Lorre all rolled into one, except with an added pinch of serious goofiness and lack of acting abilities. In fact, he's so amazing that no matter which role he's portraying he always (but ALWAYS) comes across as HIMSELF --- Now, THAT takes talent!

I have at least a few things to say about that, even if this is a 6-year-old comment. Due to my experience as a child, I often hear rumors about other people from other kids who assume it to be true, just because they heard other adults say it. Take that and the experience that just happened, and some people will try not to approach him because they believe all that stuff is true, but they are only taking it at face value, never understanding things on the other shoe.
