This family has lived under a microscope for many years. It's easy for some to judge people they've never met. MJ's fan base can be harsh and narrow minded when it comes to comments about his family. The Jackson's are legendary artist, and an important part of my childhood. Today's artist could learn a lot from these seasoned performers.

This just goes to show that kids are all different, even if they grow up in the same environment. Joseph wasn't a monster of a father, and raising so many children in a tough neighborhood requires a tough palm, especially if you want them to become superstars. Michael was more sensitive than his brothers, therefore it took a toll on him and he took it more personally. Now, MJ never said he was "abused", just that he would get beat, and since he would talk back at Joseph he would get it worse than his brothers. If you think about it, it's ironic, because all the brothers enjoyed performing and described their hard working childhood to stardom with joy, and the most successful and talented of them (Michael) always resented he didn't get to be a "normal" boy, while his brothers enjoyed it. I think Michael just needed a more loving figure in his life and Joseph didn't provide that as much as he should have.

Michael was also a lot younger than his older brothers. The older brothers got a chance to enjoy being 5 years old and not touring the "Chitlin" circuit or cabaret clubs. By the time they hit success, they were teens and banging groupies in the hotel rooms. Michael didn't do that because he was 10, 11, 12. So I agree with what you're saying, just adding on to it. Michael being the most talented one was also definitely the most sensitive of them all as well.

It's so interesting how being physically "disciplined" can have such a different affect on people. I use the quotation marks because I just can't defend Joseph and call what he did okay or normal. According to Michael, he once pushed him down so hard that it knocked the wind out of him. That's unnecessary and abusive. Even as an adult Michael spoke about being afraid of Joseph and hearing his voice in his head telling him not to mess up and to keep going no matter what during a performance. That being said, Michael did forgive Joseph many years ago, something that a lot of fans and the media tend to forget or ignore. If he could forgive him, so can we.

“Keep going no matter what” and from videos Michael did just that when performing. He performed to the point of exhaustion. The media didn’t understand that and made solicitous accusations. Also, here’s a group of young blacks with no profanity, no tattoos just humble soft spoken lads. Of course it’s not the norm. The media and accusers didn’t know how to handle it; there must be something they’re hiding. Listening to the lyrics of Michael’s songs sting and crush hypocritical government and the media.

I'm glad they are able to look back at their childhood with joy and laughter and can still listen to their songs. So many child stars are ashamed of what they did as kids and I always think that's sad because they are basically ashamed of a part of themselves. About their father, I think there are, as we say in Germany, two pairs of shoes. One is the way he treated his kids in general. That is of course not okay at all and not made any more okay by the fact that they became stars. There is no discussion that he physically abused them and that nobody should take an example at that with the thought in mind that their kid might become famous if they beat it enough. No child should ever be beaten, no child should ever be afraid of their own parent, no child should be hurt for a mistake. There's that. The other "pair of shoes" is the man Joseph Jackson. Was he a narcissistic abuser, exploiting his own kids for money, having fun seeing their pain? A pure evil man? Or was he a father who genuinely tried his best to get his kids out of a poor environment who simply hadn't learned any other way to raise his kids than with hitting, since the majority of parents (probably his own included) did it that way? Tito and Jackie seem to suggest the latter. What I'm saying is that we can reject his methods, be disgusted by them, swear to never raise a hand against our own children, all that without demonizing the man who used them. Especially people who never met him or anyone from his family personally shouldn't be too fast with judging him.

It's great to see Tito and Jackie in an interview about their childhood and straightening out some things about how their father was portrayed in the movie it's typical for Hollywood to dramatically change the way Mr Jackson came across to his kids I grew up with the Jackson 5 as a child had pictures of them on my wall cut out from right on magazine I was with them from the beginning to the end of my life I never met Michael Jackson or any of the Jacksons but I always supported them and when his passing came I told myself the only gift I can give to Michael it still when I hear his music to never stopping in the middle to listen to the song to the end that's my gift to Michael and his brothers it's not much but it means a lot to me to make that promise to Michael when he passed he's greatly missed and I often look at his videos on KZread as well as the Jackson 5 God bless the whole Jackson family and you guys have touched more people than you'll ever know thanks for being there for us God bless

Great interview with Jackie & Tito Jackson. Honesty is so easy. Really appreciated hearing them convey an honest background about their upbringing. Not a good feeling being judged by a whole world who hardly know you. This was justice on behalf their family, and also their fans of many many years.

I love & respect all of them as individuals and their stand as family. And yes their dad was harsh at times yet look at what and who they are. My grandma was not afraid to whack any of us on the behind if needed. And they share where most of their friends from that time ended up. Blessings in disguise They all have amazing beautiful families dispite it all including Michael.

the Jackson 5 is an absolutely amazing band! I am now 50 years old, but I was a touring recording artist all over North America and Europe and Mexico for over 30 years. I had to sing and dance in an Abba endorsed tribute band called bjornagain. And I have chronic pain now, so I understand Michael Jackson’s chronic pain.

As children they were great neighbors. Fun loving, open people with warm personalities. We are proud of the Jackson's always will be. It's unfortunate the rumours and negative talk that sometimes follow the Jackson. But when you are in show business and have done and doing well, jealous ignorant people show up and talk about nothing. The Jackson's are always in our prayers.

Thank you for this video. It is such a blessing that this family survived the usual things that destroy so many families. Thank GOD for Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, their family values, determination, their love for their family unit and the love of music. Family is a gift from GOD and music is a gift from GOD. The Jackson Family received a lot of blessings and were kind enough to share their blessings with the world.

If Joseph was did not have a firm grip on them, they would not have turned out to be the Jacksons we know today. The making of superstars can never be ordinary. He did the best he knew how to do. Joseph was not perfect but I believe he truly loved all his kids and gave them all his best in the way he knew how.

Thank You Tito and Jermaine. Two beautiful brothers. I had always believed exactly was they said about Joe Jackson(their Father) long before I ever seen any of their interviews. I believe that he was over bearing like that. Yes strict to keep hos growing boy focused but, not this abusive brute that he was portrayed to be in the news and the movie. Amongst children each child's perception is different. Tito Jermaine, Jackie,Randy and Marlon understood that they were being disciplined and they are just fine. MJ I believe just was very sensitive. These brothers were NOT abused by anybody.

It was only Michael who started at an early age thats why he keeps on saying he lost his childhood. He worked so hard at that age too. But you see, if you are beaten at that age, no hug or explanation after the punishment, in that age.. YOU WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER. The older siblings experienced to play with other kids before stardom..
