The Island Line Rail Trail in Vermont [World's longest Bike Path Across Water!]
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Want to ride the longest bike path in the world across water? Then you just need to head to Burlington, Vermont and ride the Island Line Rail Trail. You'll ride along the shore of Lake Champlain, the 6th largest natural freshwater lake in the US. As you ride across Lake Champlain on the spectacular 3 mile long Colchester Causeway you'll have breathtaking views to the east of Vermont's Green Mountains, and New York's Adirondack Mountains to the West. The trail is 13.4 miles long. The southern 8 miles are paved, and the remainder is hard-packed, crushed limestone. The trail was voted into the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Rail-Trail Hall of Fame in December, 2010. This ride took place on July 23, 2021.
Special thanks to our Local Motion ferry captain for her excellent commentary.

It definitely is one of the most unique trails we've been on so far. We rode it in the summer, but I'm sure fall would be just spectacular. I hope you get to ride it soon. Thanks for watching and taking a minute it comment.
We did this ride a while ago. Back then the bike ferry was a 15 foot pontoon boat with someone selling tickets at a card table. There was misty rain that day, but one of our best experiences ever on bike.

I just talked Randy into it yesterday -- he thinks we are going to run out of trails if we keep up this pace (ha ha!!) We're also thinking of hitting the VA Creeper Trail. Can you email me at -- adv.on.ebikes@gmail.com --and if you're thinking of possibly joining us we can talk more specifically about dates? It would be a lot of fun to see you and Nancy again.

I did this ride in 2021 when doing a 40th reunion at BHS .. what a gorgeous ride. As a teen, I would try to ride the boxcars on the CV line, but they were usually locked.

Thanks for watching and for your comments. I hope you figure out a way to feel comfortable riding some of these trails. The Island Line is pretty suburban and there are a lot of people on it - so that should be a safe one. If you take the ferry over to the island that’s a little harder to maneuver alone.
That was great, thanks for the video.

That looks like such a great ride. I've been to Burlington once; I wish I could get back there again soon. I love that you have the camera on your helmet. I hadn't thought of that. I've done a few biking videos with the camera on the handle bars. The footage comes out smooth, but I'd like to get more scenery around me as opposed to what's just in front on the trail. Are you doing any stabilization during the editing process? Great video!
@Adventuresonebikes

I did have my camera on my helmet for the first couple of years. Then I moved to the handlebars. I have a flexclamp mount with a gooseneck now - so I can turn it while riding to get other things. That takes all the jerking around that you tend to do with your head when you are watching where you are going and taking video. My husband keeps his on his helmet so we do have that other perspective. Thanks for watching.

@@Adventuresonebikes Thanks for your reply! Happy biking!
Had to rent a bike at a little shop in Burlington and all they had was the old-fashioned foot-brake kind. I fell off it when I tried to stop. Anyway, it was late fall when I rode on the causeway so I couldn't make it across the cut, which was frustrating. Love to do it again and to ride around North and South Hero. This was back in 2009.

I believe there was a campground, but not sure what type of camping is allowed there, or what type of camping you want. I’m sure a quick Google search would probably be more helpful than me. If you look at the trail map on TrailLink I think you can see at least one campground. Thanks for watching!

We stayed in a hotel when we rode this trail, so I'm not familiar with any particular campgrounds. However, I did do a quick search of the area on the app I use for campgrounds: Roadtrippers, and there appear to be a number of State and private campgrounds near the route.

If you can add how it is with the Restrooms situation(distance, number of) on each of your videos, that would be very much appreciated. Some city girls do not like to go into the woods.
