Assalamualikum. Your lecture was a good reminder to let the kids settle in US as US citizens. However I would like to add it is better to leave if something is disputed about like birthday or halloween. As if after death it turns out to be haram there is no going back and changing your deed. So if possible its better to be safe than sorry. Also, when I explained to my non muslim friends I avoid celebrating birthday they ended up sharing how its difficult for them to keep up the ever growing demand of their kids every year on their birthdays. Not to mention how kids end up fighting amongst themselves and with their parents for how injust ones gift was with respect to other. May allah protect us from any wrong doing. And accept our action as refrain as ibadah.

Walikum assalaam wrwb Sheikh, what I get from this lecture is we should be more focused on practicing/protecting the deen. We know that majority of the festivals are consumer holidays. Their main purpose is to stimulate the economy. Personally, I encourage my children to fast during their birthdays and show gratitude to Allah swt and parents. When it comes to Thanksgiving I want my children to stand with the Native Americans and Justice and Truth. I do not want my children to follow something blindly just because the majority is doing it. We can always reason. Also, take the middle path which is recommended.

You believe the KZread historians too much. Why can't you stand with everyone. You're raising your children to be white haters. Do some real research. Thanksgiving is about unity. Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. It's a national holiday. Even Muslim countries celebrate national holidays.

Whic one is problematic; wel done or rare? On which basis? (Answer is very important for me as in my circle we know only weldone steak) I don't know id there will be someone from the te following the comments as this video is 2 years old. But, now it's my duty to dig deep on this question before my next steak.

Although some cultural celebrations aren’t religious they still aren’t good to celebrate. Thanksgiving is a celebration of the genocide of the Native American people. Most Native Americans do not celebrate thanksgiving because it is a day of mourning for them. As a Muslim, and as a descendant of the Native American people, I refuse to celebrate a holiday that stems from the oppression and murder of the Native people. The 4th of July in the United States I also refuse to celebrate. It is an American tradition not related to religion but it is also another twisted holiday. Yea it is the day the US was freed from the British empire but who exactly was free? The white slave owners were free but all of the African American slaves were not free. And some of those slaves were Muslims from Africa. They were still being tortured until a hundred years later when they “technically” were freed. And even till this day are still oppressed. So Independence Day is a joke to me. I’m not telling anyone they shouldn’t celebrate these days because I have no right to do that. I just gave the reasons why I don’t and why people need to look into things before they decide to “celebrate” them. Don’t just follow others blindly for the sake of “culture”.

GREAT AND VERY BEAUTIFUL LECTURE... THERE ARE 100000 WAYS IN WHICH BILLIONS OF MUSLIMS INCLUDING SCHOLARS CAN TRY TO INTERPRET AHAADEES / QURAN VERSES IN THEIR OWN WAYS... ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN PERSONAL VIEWS... PERSONAL PREFERENCES........... PERSONAL CONCEPTS...... SO FAR, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LECTURE IN MY LIFE ABOUT THESE ISSUES LIKE BIRTHDAYS....ANNIVERSARIES ETC....I HEARD FROM DR YASIR QADHI.... FIRST OF ALL.... A BIG FAULT IS PEOPLE'S FAULT.... PEOPLE'S FAULT.... PEOPLE'S FAULT.... PEOPLE ASK USELESS QUESTIONS..... THEY ALSO WASTE SCHOLARS' TIME....... THEN DIFFERENT SCHOLARS START GIVING FATWAS.... MAKING SELF DESIGNED THEORIES...... THESE THINGS HAPPEN UNINTENTIONALLY ALSO...... MUSLIM WORLD DOES NOT DISCUSS DOES NOT EVEN SAY A SINGLE WORD ABOUT INNER INTENTION INNER INTENTION INNER INTENTION WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT THESE KINDS OF ISSUES...... INNER INTENTION IS NOTHING ??? ACTIONS WILL BE JUDGED ON THE BASIS OF INNER INTENTIONS.... IT IS A HADEES..... ALL MUSLIMS KNOW ALREADY VERY WELL........ MOST BEAUTIFUL COMMENT FROM DR YASIR, I HEARD MANY MONTHS AGO.... IT WAS THAT BIRTHDAYS ETC ARE NOT RELIGIOUS / ISLAMIC THINGS... SO.....HOW CAN ANY MUSLIM SAY LIKE... THESE ARE BIDAAH...... OR ADDING SOMETHING IN RELIGION ??? ANOTHER THING...... CAN ANY PERSON CONVINCE ANY OTHER PERSON FOR THESE KINDS OF ISSUES ??? NO NO NOT AT ALL...... THIS IS KIND OF NEVER ENDING CYCLE..... ONE PERSON WILL SAY ONE THING.... OTHER PERSON WILL COME UP WITH ANOTHER ARGUMENT.... EVEN A NEW INTERPRETITION OF HADEES...JUST TO PROVE HIS / HER POINT.... KZread WHATSAPP FACEBOOK AIRPLANES FLYING BY AIR THROUGH AIRPLANES WHAT ARE THESE ??? VERY GOOD THINGS... I GAVE THIS EXAMPLE JUST TO SHOW THAT FEW MUSLIMS SAY LIKE... BIRTHDAYS ETC ARE LIKE COPYING NON-MUSLIMS.... WHAT ???? USE OF ANYTHING MAKE A THING GOOD OR BAD... THINGS ARE NOT GOOD OR BAD.... WHAT IS MEANT BY COPYING ??? THERE IS A VERY HONEST NON-MUSLIM POLICE OFFICER... MUSLIMS SHOULD COPY THAT NON-MUSLIM.... AGAIN.... THESE KINDS OF BIRTHDAYS ETC ISSUES ARE LIKE NEVER ENDING CYCLE NEVER ENDING CYCLE TOTAL TIME WASTAGE..... IF SOMEONE DOES NOT PREFER TO CELEBRATE THESE... OK FINE GOOD IF SOMEONE PREFERS TO CELEBRATE.... OK FINE GOOD WHAT IS WRONG ???? OFERING PRAYERS..... A PRAYER WHICH IS TO SHOW OFF... IT IS A SIN..... IF IT IS 100% FOR ALLAH... IT IS THE BEST AND GOOD THING......... INNER INTENTION IS NOTHING ??? YES IT IS......... AGAIN...... I AM CONVINCING ANYONE WHO IS AGAINST BIRTHDAYS ETC ???? NO NO NOT AT ALL....... TOTAL RESPECT... IF ANY PERSON DOES NOT PREFER TO CELEBRATE THESE KINDS OF THINGS.... OK FINE GOOD IF A PERSON CELEBRATES THESE THINGS... OK FINE GOOD I CELEBRATE MY KIDS' BIRTHDAYS... MY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY...YES.... I CELEBRATE...... I WILL CONTINUE TO CELEBRATE TILL MY DEATH.... INSHA ALLAH MAY ALLAH BLESS AND PROTECT ME AND MY FAMILY..... AAMIN AAMIN AAMIN EACH PERSON HAS HIS / HER OWN VIEW... OWN INNER INTENTION.... WHO IS BETTER ?? NOBODY......... GENERALLY SPEAKING..... THE WHOLE MUSLIM WORLD IS BUSY IN "I AM BETTER" "I HAVE BETTER KNOWLEDGE" THING......... MUSLIM WORLD IS BUSY IN DISCUSSING ISSUES WHICH ARE NOT ISSUES AT ALL..... WE SEE CHILD RAPE BACKBITINGS HATRED FAKE PEER, FAQEER, BLACK MAGIC GUYS THERE ARE 100000000000 ISSUES..... SUNNI SHIA WAHABI DAIOBANDI MULTIPLE GROUPS A DIVIDED WORLD......... ------------------------------------------ ONE MORE THING..... WITHOUT NAMING ANY COUNTRY'S NAME..... SUPPOSE, THERE IS AN XYZ MUSLIM MAJORITY COUNTRY.... THAT COUNTRY HAS ITS NATIONAL ANTHEM MUSIC IS ALSO THERE.... PEOPLE FROM THAT COUNTRY STAND UP FOR NATIONAL ANTHEM A THING, WHICH HAS MUSIC ALSO.... THAT SAME COUNTRY'S PEOPLE SAY... MUSIC HARAM MUSIC HARAM MUSIC HARAM I AM NOT SAYING, MUSIC IS GOOD.... NOT AT ALL... I AM NOT SAYING, MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS ARE GOOD.... OH MUSLIMS...GO, USE THOSE.... NO I AM NOT SAYING IT...... ALLAH KNOWS VERY WELL WHAT I WANT TO SAY... WHAT IS MY POINT.... INNER INTENTION INNER INTENTION INNER INTENTION TODAY, MUSLIM WORLD HAS BECOME A WORLD OF FINGER POINTING AND A WORLD OF "I AM BETTER".... GENERALLY SPEAKING..... A WOMAN STARTS USING HIJAAB... THEN...SHE HAS JUST ONE GOAL OF LIFE... SEARCHING FOR WOMEN WHO ARE NOT USING HIJAAB A BEARD GUY STARTS LOOKING FOR CLEAN SHAVED MEN TO ATTACK.... A PERSON LEAVES MUSIC.... THAT PERSON CONSIDERS THAT HE / SHE BECAME 100 % PERFECT NOW.... I AM SAYING ALL IN A GENERAL WAY........ OBVIOUSLY, NOT SAYING, ALL DO IT.... NO........ BUT SO FAR, THROUGHOUT MY LIFE, I SAW IT.... I EXPERIENCED IT....... FEW MONTHS AGO, I MADE A VIDEO...... A BEAUTIFUL VIDEO OF MY TWO LITTLE DAUGHTERS.... I PUT A SONG IN THE BACKGROUND.... A BEAUTIFUL / SPIRITUAL SONG..... THERE WAS VERY LITTLE LIGHT MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND...... I SENT IT TO VERY FEW OF MY RELATIVES / FRIENDS..... WITHIN MINUTES, ONE RELATIVE STARTED POSTING AND SENDING ME ANTI-MUSIC POSTS......... NOT ONLY ONE POST.... MANY....... I CRIED A LOT...... LOVE WAS IN MY HEART.... MY INNER INTENTION WAS TOTAL CLEAN I SHARED MY KIDS' VIDEO AND WHEN WE SHARE WITH SOMEONE... IT MEANS, WE SHARE WITH LOVE....... TWO LITTLE DAUGHTERS...LITTLE DAUGHTERS.... LOVE OF A PARENT FOR KIDS.... THATS IT..... BUT WHAT I GOT BACK ???? ALLAH DOES NOT SEE ??? YES ALLAH SEES ALL...... IS IT ISLAM.... THIS IS THE WAY OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD PBUH ??? I CRIED A LOT..... I BROKE.... MY INNER BROKE..... THEN I ASK MYSELF..... THIS IS THE MUSLIM WORLD TODAY ??? ANOTHER EXAMPLE...... BUT YES PEOPLE CAN TRY TO PROVE / SHOW THEY ARE BETTER BETTER MUSLIM ETC I AM NOT BETTER THAN ANYBODY I ALSO DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANYBODY WHO CAN TRY TO PROVE / SHOW THAT HE / SHE IS BETTER.... RELIGIOUS PROUDNESS ??? IT IS NOTHING ???? FEELING OF BEING "BETTER" OR "THE BEST" OR "THE PERFECT".... THESE THINGS ARE NOTHING ??? OBVIOUSLY, THESE ARE BIG SINS........ VERY SCARY SINS ! NOW ANY PERSON / ANY MUSLIM IN THIS WORLD CAN EASILY SAY... OH I AM PARTICIPATING IN SOMETHING LIKE HALLOWEEN..... WHAT ???? WHAT ???? ANOTHER EXAMPLE...... SAYING MERRY CHRISTMAS TO CHRISTIANS..... IMRAN KHAN.... CURRENT PRIME MINISTER OF PAKISTAN HE WISHED AND SAID, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO CHRISTIANS LIVING IN PAKISTAN..... A GREAT THING..... PURE ISLAM.................. 100 % ISLAM IMRAN KHAN STARTED AGREEING WITH THE BELIEFS WHATEVER BELIEFS CHRISTIANS HAVE ?? NO HE STARTED CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS ? NO HE JUST WISHED.... INTER-FAITH HARMONY JUST SIMPLE........ MUSLIM WORLD IS FULL OF SELF DESIGNED STATEMENTS LIKE.... IF YOU SAY THIS IF YOU SAY THAT IT MEANS YOU DID SHIRK..... YA ALLAH FORGIVE ME FORGIVE ME FORGIVE ME FORGIVE US AAMIN INTER-FAITH HARMONY IS NOTHING ??? HOW CAN ANY SINGLE PERSON JUDGE ANY OTHER PERSON ??? IF YOU SAY THIS IT MEANS..............XYZ ABC ETC WHAT IS THIS ????? I WILL STOP HERE....... IT IS NEVER ENDING CYCLE NEVER ENDING CYCLE NEVER ENDING CYCLE IF ONE PERSON SAYS, MERRY CHRISTMAS... OK FINE TOTAL RESPECT IF ANOTHER MUSLIM DOES NOT WANT TO SAY IT... OK FINE TOTAL RESPECT THERE ARE ISSUES WHICH ARE NOT AN ISSUES AT ALL...... NOT AT ALL.......... YA ALLAH FORGIVE ME FORGIVE US AAMIN AGAIN..... MAY ALLAH BLESS YOU, DR YASIR..... MAY ALLAH BLESS THE WHOLE WORLD.... ALL PEOPLE....ALL NATIONS AAMIN FOR ANY PERSON..... If you have family members who aren't Muslim, visiting them with the intention of visiting them, is not haraam during the Christmas holiday.

all i see in the comments are people making flimsy point off of his points. when your intention isnt to honour a pagan god or transgress, whats the harm in celebrating personal feats and celebrations? one might ask why do this just to fit into society? yes. thats a valid point that you are making but you completely missed the sheikhs point. he isnt encouraging the celebrations. he is merely pointing out that celebrating it when youre a part of a larger society that does celebrate things like this isnt exactly haram. you can choose to do it or not. this is just for the people that want to do it and wanna know if theyre doing something wrong by celebrating something. if you are gonna draw parallels on paganism and something like celebrating a birthday, clearly youre reading too much into it. if you intend for it to be a fun time with you and your family and friends, whats the harm in that? then again. this is for the people that want to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. personally, ive never felt the need or desire to celebrate it nor do i find the idea appealing but all im gonna say is that people are reading too much into things that are done without any intention of wrongdoing and we all know that in islam, niyyath is everything.

JAK Shaykh! Excellent talk that clarifies many points! However you didn’t mention Valentine’s Day…. I once saw a Muslim couple arguing because the wife was insisting on celebrating it while the husband refused. I’m seeing it as belonging to a gray area akin to Halloween. What would you say about it?

Assalam O Alaikum Dr. Qadhi, I have question. I am palliative care physician and alot of time we are asked to remove pt from life support - ventilator when the family decide not to pursue aggressive care. What does Islam say about withdrawal of care specially in situation where the patient is not able to have any meaningful recovery. Thank you
