The Irish seem to have had enough of African immigrants, at least for the time being

The complaints about asylum-seekers entering Ireland from Britain have a background of which not everybody is aware.

Well there is such a thing as the greater good for instance if you have a disability or your spouse died leaving you with a few kids, even if you have a hard life and turned to drugs or alcohol, as long as the individual is from your country, then its your own countryman/woman and the country has an aid budget for the greater good, the taxpayers fund, but that's not to say that we should pay for everyone else's delinquents, I believe if your not from here then you should not get benefits ! Why would you come to a country with no means to support yourself, unless you intend on taking full advantage of the system 😕

The other day I watched (reluctantly) part of a TV programme with Michael Palin visiting a huge religious centre in Nigeria. Apparently it was the biggest ‘centre’ in the world at over a mile long. After a while, with not a single person looking undernourished or destitute, I realised that there was a branch of this ‘religion’ in my home town of Bolton and was puzzled - and remain so - as to why anyone would want to come to Bolton when their own country seemed so selectively prosperous. I know that, unlike indigenous citizens, immigrants can get priority housing, travel assistance, financial help with daily activities, children’s allowance (in an ever increasing scale), legal help, free spectacles, free dentistry, priority medical treatment, help with mobile phones, free access to educational courses and much, much more - but surely that alone can’t encourage them, surely?? I remain puzzled.

One of the biggest problems with immigrants is that the authorities have little idea who they are. Drimnagh is not unaccustomed to gang violence. The feud between Drimnagh and Crumlin gangs 10 or 12 years back was especially vicious. However, for a city of 1m+ people, Dublin was a very small place until recently. if someone got shot in a gang-related killing, every dog on the streets and every rat in the sewers knew who did it. If the shooting occurred when the victim was on a school run, the lunchtime edition of the Evening Herald would all but name the killer: "The victim was formerly a close associate of a southside gang leader who has been resident in Spain since the collapse of a state prosecution in 2010. The two men fell out over distribution of funds from the import of untaxed cigarettes. The Herald understands that the suspected gunman is a relative of the gang leader, who was released from Mountjoy last year after serving a short sentence for assault." Of course, the fact that well-known grass Mickey Delaney overheard Seamus Murphy telling Paddy O'Leary that Finbarr Kelly was going to pop a cap in Sean McGillycuddy's ass doesn't mean the rozzers can nick Finbarr without further evidence when Sean gets shot after dropping his kids at school... But they know Finbarr did it. The Rozzers have no idea who these Albanians, Romanians, Arabs and Africans are.

What a great story about Finbar putting a cap in McGillacuddy,s ass. A great analogy for what is the problem between local policing and dealing with violent gimmegrants.

That's good to hear. I've personally noticed the change myself, from when I lived and worked in Ireland (and travelled up "the north") back in the 90s and early 2000s and comparing it to now. I'm a regular visitor to Ireland (both north and south) and the only animosity and crap I received was back in the 90s, and even that was a couple of instances in a pub. Nowadays I can even plod around the Falls and Ardoyne and feel ok and have craic. Even some of the more nationalist minded folks have been ok with me. Pretty sure that wouldn't have been the case up north back in the 90s.

The illegal immigrants from France after technically being returned to the EU if France doesn't want them back Ireland can have them until they come to sense to abandon the failed EU project.
