Aparna who is not liking much guys , according to Sima aunty , is stubborn and fickle minded but Pradyuman who has already rejected more than 100 girls is still " Unsure " ! Therefore , according to Sima aunty , women have to adjust and compromise in a marriage ! God save us !

U make a point but both of them are not very likeable people and most of us who watched this show would agree with that . And to adress your point it goes both ways boys also have to make adjustments while choosing a partner and as for seema aunty she is coming from a different generation . I don't think most people now think like that
Neville explained the 'nail polish thing' with more clarity, conviction and commitment than Modi ji explained the benefits of Demonetization.

Neville & Kautuk said about scamming that happens in the arrange marriage scene, it’s actually true and has happened to my mom before my father’s alliance came along. My mom told me this story and I was obviously shocked about the fact that people would just blatantly lie to get married. A guy came to nana’s home in Bandra (or Vashi I don’t remember where they lived at this point) to see mom. He came along with an elderly gentleman from his family and he said the prospective groom is an electrical engineer in Dubai. My nana being nana & Malayali he heard the word “gulf” and jumped the gun to the point that he was almost accepted the proposal. My mom & maasi said I clearly remember the “prospective groom” was wearing some tacky clothes to make himself seem he’s from abroad. Luckily my nana’s younger sister & her husband were living in Dubai at that point & did some background check. To everyone’s horror that guy was an electrician not an electrical engineer in Dubai. I mean there’s no harm in workin as an electrician but to lie and possibly ruin someone’s life like that is totally unacceptable. Obviously the alliance was rejected. So that’s the story.

I heard EIC's podcast on the show before this and I realised how important it is to have a woman narrative to understand so much deep shit. These guys missed out on understanding so many hidden layers to each character that Kusha & Kaneez pointed out with the EIC guys.
Oh how eagerly was I waiting for this!
I'm so glad Varun called out the fact that Pradyuman and Akshay have no personality whatsoever. Pradyuman especially is such a creepy guy hiding behind luxuries, it's disgusting!
Absolutely loved your discussion of this show! I got completely hooked onto it and binged it in a day. I remember watching "A Suitable Girl" a few years ago at a documentary festival, so was very surprised when I saw Seema maam was in this show as well! I definitely recommend watching that documentary - a very different (and much more nuanced but also depressing) take on the same topic, as it not only shows a very different demographic of clients that Seema works with, but also explores the pressures and expectations that many women in India have to navigate.
Funny how Aadar isn't here, but he is in the podcast the EIC guys did with Kaneez and Kusha, as Kusha's background 😂

‘Indian Matchmaking’ is our way of telling the World that ‘90 Day Fiancé’ and ‘Love is Blind’ can be possible here and we can be our usual regressive, sexist and casteist selves with parents who infantilise their children.
Hey Guys, I understand how Aparna came across as a rude and demanding person, but I guess she is the only one who did not feel the need to be likable and it is perfectly fine to be clear about what you want and what you don't. So, Aparna is too complicated for us Indians to understand because we are still not comfortable when it comes to straightforwardness. That said her Mom had no rights calling people losers. But the show is fucking weird. Like need eye cleansers.
@AasthaBhansali
4 жыл бұрын
While her straightforwardness isn't an issue, people didn't like her because she seemed to judge people for things like having different travel preferences, or even wanting to spend time with their husbands. The very fact that it is new for her to not dislike someone after meeting them is very telling. On dates, she seemed to hijack the conversations, and also openly admitted that she didn't feel that there was anything about that needed to evolve, which isn't a great attitude. No matter how good someone is, there is always room for evolution, so that also seemed off.

A Suitable Girl is on Netflix and is a great follow-up to Indian Matchmaking. The co-director of the series directed the documentary. Thank you for this episode guys! I have binge watched this and it's hilarious 😂 They've carefully selected specimens for this season. But I have to agree with Neville. This showcases arranged marriages in the most horrible way possible. Indians these days are way more liberal. But it highlights regressive thinking of people like Sima and Geeta. I am in an arranged marriage by choice and my parents have been the most progressive and supportive parents. Infact they are ones who asked me to take time and NOT adjust or compromise. I wish there was one story like this. But I am curious about the next seasons 😄 My Fav bits were couples in the introduction of each episode ❤️
