She hooked me on Mood, Stay The Night and Hold On. She did sound ambitious on It Gets Better but the instrumental is killer to a point where it kind of makes up for her short comings.

I waited in such high anticipation for Hive Mind after hearing Come Over And Roll. It gave me the impression that the album would have a lot more bounce and attitude to it, similar to the vibe on Ego Death, just with more focus on melodies. Hive Mind turned out to be far more serene and tender than I had thought, lyrically and vocally. Syd brought more of the "fluid jazz" type vocals found in Feel Good but Hive Mind is definitely a step up instrumentally from any other project of theirs. Chris and Pat went hard on this project. Some of the ghost notes on thst hi-hat and the bass grooves are insane. I don't know what you expect lyrically from a funk/neo-soul band to be honest, Anthony. I love the simplicity of them and it tuned my attention more to Syd's vocals. There's not one skipable track on this album. More like strong-8/10

After listening, I'd say Ego Death was better to me, but both of the albums are great, not bland in the least bit. I think Syd's vocals are almost always seductive, something is very intoxicating and inviting about her voice. I'd say over the years her lyrics have gotten pretty confident and her vocals have improved substantially, especially when performing live. Lol idk in the words of Pharrell, Her voice sounds like clouds like to me, always chill yet very impactful. I can agree that album notes their growth for sure, but deserves a higher score than a light 7.

I was kind of disappointed the first listen, but on the third listen I'm into it. Come together and hold on we're placed perfectly, as they really tie the ribbon on this album for me. Like melon said the instrumentals were sophisticated on this album in comparison to the past. I do appreciate the chill vibe, but it definitely did not hold my attention, as well as ego death, the first listen.Songs like mood went over my head because Syd's vocals were over shone by the instrumentals and I wasn't quite sure if my attention was to be drawn to instrumentals primarily or what. In contrast a song like wanna be has light vocals that blended well with the instrumentals, while it wasn't a song that initially caught my attention I came back around and grew some appreciation for its musicality. Many of the songs had fabulous hooks that weren't utilized to their full potential. Nonetheless, I will be jamming to this album until I am sick of it.

100%. This album was pure easy listening "background noise." Burbank Funk was like the standout song cuz it had some bounce to it but the rest kinda just meanders on. Thought they'd bring something hot to the table, especially considering Lacy has been on his shit with his own work and his production of that Ravyn Lanae chick. Reminds me of Rex Orange County and how that guy is the modern equivalent to the boring days of mid-1970s soft rock.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU MELON. Ego Death and Fin were two of my favorite albums of 2015 and 2017. Yet you rated both of them poorly. Then this album comes out and it easily fits into the categories put Ego Death and Fin in (Uninteresting vocals, bland grooves, etc.) and yet it's your favorite internet album to date?! Also you still get an L for giving the Saba album a "meh". I can't get over that one either.

I really recommend the album "A Love Extreme" by Benji Hughes, he's really underrated and the album seems pretty damn unique. Also, the song "Waiting For an Invitation" is one of the best songs I've listened to in a long while.
