COVID times were the most happiest time in my life, because in Belarus no one ever had shit to do something with the virus and we still went to school. But in 2023 I feel completely opposite. Sad, frustrated, bored, partially afraid of the future. And only this year I had found out about Bo Burnham and his music. Definitely helps me getting through school and other things. Thanks to Bo for this masterpiece of art. I love «Inside» very much

Sometimes I would get sad knowing that while I can still watch “Inside” again, I won’t ever get to experience it for the first time again. And then, out of nowhere, this masterpiece of work from the cutting room floor of a comedic genius just shows up for free on my KZread feed. I don’t know what I was expecting when I first clicked it, but it wasn’t this. An entire encore of Bo’s best work that didn’t make it into his other best work. What a saint he is to just post it up on KZread for everyone who has been following him for years and years. Hope you’re doing ok Bo and anyone else reading this. You might feel alone but take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone in feeling alone.

i love his use of the repetition of screens (like screens within screens within screens) in inside (especially in “all eyes on me”). for me it represents disassociation and in my opinion is a very realistic depiction of how it feels like. love how he shows more of it here and it even has its own segment! (mise en abyme) i rarely comment but i hope you too are also doing well, jwlgoesfishing and swedepotato 😊

I thought I was alone in having these kind of thoughts/feelings. I legit would love to just sit around with him somewhere pretty & talk for hours on end about literally any god damn thing - whatever his beautiful brain comes up with in the moment type of convos. Each one of Bo’s specials have brought me to feel so emotional in an absurd amount of different ways and I thought I was a loony toon with my outta pocket desires to just like……be the spider in the corner of the room with him??? Yea I'm with ya...I've tried to explain "Inside", as well as his other specials to friends. Usually the word I use is "Profound". Most of my friends are a bunch of un-educated rednecks (love em dearly, mind you), and have no idea what I'm talkin about, and certainly wouldn't appreciate sitting around with the guy. Pity, there's a lot you can learn from someone like Bo.

54:55 I don’t know how and why but this song is my favorite. Like I understand the feeling this even if it’s told from the chickens eye and Bo sings it. His music makes me happy and this is one of those pieces that make me smile due to the melody it gives. In some way I feel he relates to it too, I mean songs from people have meaning to them. This one is him feeling escape to wonder what’s ahead and end it with something there. Edit: I know it’s about the pun “Why did the chicken cross the road?” But I still find it fun yet meaningful.

My fear of advancing AI is that it will steal and devalue art. It really bugs me, it will be tragic because it's a gift and AI is just going to come along and crank out all forms of art in a matter of seconds. So suffering from a depression myself, that got brought on by a burnout that iitself was brought on by the pandemic. Inside meant so much to me. I literally did not understand how I went from a decently successful 37 year old businessperson to breaking down crying at some random meeting. Inside made me feel less alone, as I could recognise so many of the symptoms that Bo was experiencing, and let me feel a little less insane, knowing that there are others suffering similar problems. Inside means the world to me. Thank you.

The way that he stares into the camera makes me feel so emotional. As someone who struggles with both anxiety and depression, currently in the worst and most confusing phase of finding the point of it all and continuing onward with life, it feels as though he knows and sees me and is speaking words with his eyes.

This genius made the “chicken crossed the road” joke into a moving and incredibly applicable song with gorgeous chord progression. That talent. Shits not fair

Admittedly it would be more a "behind the scenes" video and not like this masterpiece, but they would technically be outtakes. He probably has even more outtakes in his closet somewhere but they may just have been not enough to cut into even into the Outtakes

This is a long shot of thanking Bo Burnham for all of his work. Maybe one day I'll write a more personal dedication, but for now this will do. Thank you Bo. Your art helped an incredibly isolated kid learn that there wasn't something wrong with him, he was just maliciously isolated.... I love seeing the BTS and the real time work shopping. As a creative person, I forget that it's not going to be perfect right off the bat. I get disheartened by seeing all these "perfect" (finished) projects/works. I forget there's a creative process. To see Bo, someone I look up to as an artist, go through the same ups and downs I do as I create, is a nice reminder to just do it and enjoy it and that I can fix it.

He didnt monetize the video, but he put his own ads of himself in. Thats amazing.

This whole project had to be mentally a hell of a strain on you. Kudos for sticking to it and putting out all this stuff. It feels like sometimes that creative process is soul crushing. I can't imagine doing hours of color testing with lighting....your expression sometimes looks as blank as my dog when it looks up at me from a nap and is like "what? what'd I miss?" Also that random spider song just killed me. Still laughing. I dont' know why. It's late and that was so stupid it was funny.

Making income by posting to KZread and getting ad revenue is super normal, so to choose not do it, is just a kind and special act. However, if tomorrow he decided to enable ads on every single one of his videos, I wouldn't consider him greedy for that at all.

Man I 'm so stunned. Friends of mine have recommended your content for so long and then I stumble across this. And I love it in this wired way. So many inspiring shots and funny things. So complex and yet so simple. This is a masterpiece of creation. I can only imagine what a crazy creative process this has been. I wrote 90 songs in 90 days during lockdown and afterwards turned it into a book with illustrations describing the proces behind every song. A few months I finally compleded. I'm so god daym happy for the insight on your project. There's so many levels of art in it, from the cinematography, the music, the editing to the fun ads. So deeply appreciated you actually followed your idea all the way till the end. Very inspiring. Much love Alex

The fact that you released a whole other spinoff movie for free just solidified the fact you're my new favorite celebrity.

the chicken is such a good inspirational song, talking about how a woman, waking up, maybe who is in an abusive relationship, as the husband is “screaming”, how she’s sat in the dark, with another child on the way, and dreams of getting another life, in a town, where she’s pursuing her dream job but then is held hostage in a terrible reality where she’s a mother to her kids, and a wonderful wife to her husband. It then, goes on to say that the next morning, she decides to take the opportunity to run away, trying to get a new life and looking at wonderful things she’s dreamt of, because of the dark, she was kept in. She knows, that her future is given to her, that she needs to take a big step in “crossing the road”, then takes a journey “left, right, left, right”, when a terrible accident then happens, that is being stopped by a “pair of headlights”, which could mean that her husband must have taken her back, that others question her state of being, (dead or alive?), and in thought, makes others believe she died and others who are in hope thinking she’s on the other side, living her best life. “that’s why she did it” shows that the opportunity that most take, end up failing and making others succeed.

As I’m rewatching this for like the 5th time, I just gotta say Bo is like my favorite person ever. The amount of time and effort he put into this project is unbelievable. He somehow creates incredibly witty content that makes us laugh, but also leaves us feeling something. You’re the best Bo!

Thank you Bo Burnham for the album inside and the film, it really captures the vibes from pandemic. A feeling of emptiness that became a norm. I love ur album songs a lot and listen to it whenever i need a break from the usual pop sounds. The lyrics are very sincere and gave me a sense of relief when listening. Would support ur next projects❤love from Singapore

When even the outtakes to a special is put together like a genuine art piece, and the cut songs are just as impressive as the originally released songs.. That’s very Bo Burnham.

I just noticed that the last part at 1:02:27 was actually edited just 2 days before upload, and specifically at 4 AM. I feel relieved that even one of the most talented people on earth still overworks himself until dawn, and that his productivity also peaks at 4 AM. Maybe I'm not that flawed after all. I genuinely hope Bo is or will be okay. I empathize strongly with his music and art and seeing him anything but happy hurts me emotionally. I'm not sure what goes through his mind sometimes but if anything at all I hope he knows how much his fans care. I sincerely hope one day he will start performing live again.

Bo Burnham is genuinely an amazing composer.

As absolutely hilarious as that bit was, I feel like these outtakes show that Inside was originally going to be released on KZread, like Bo wanted to go back to his early years of producing his content on the platform that made him famous. Somewhere along the way he got a deal with Netflix and likely had to cut out all those fake ads since they’re more prevalent on KZread and Netflix doesn’t have any: yet.

It is a movie.

This feels more like "Inside 1.5" than just a collection of outtakes. I adored the original "Inside", and felt it was the most important work of creative art to come out of the 2020 lockdown. To get a further glimpse into Bo's mind and all the things he had to do and all the struggles he had to go through in order to create such an amazing special for us? It's a real treat. I enjoyed this immensely.

Definitely agree with the Inside 1.5 sentiment. I loved the MCU style "plan" for the Inside Cinematic Universe and the Kevin Feige parody. It was definitely better used in this.

27:38 for some reason I automatically assumed the joke was you can't choke yourself to death without the string from laceless shoes, that's why they were the sale item for Mental Health Awareness

Lowkey yeah, I think the joke is that in mental asylums staff forces patients to remove the shoelaces from shoes so since we all rolling down the mental insanity path the ads are adapting and offering sale to laceless shoe versions

I come back to this and inside every few months. Just thank you, I know so many people agree and im glad! That means you portray emotions so hard that "unfazed" people become frickin fazed.

it is insane the amount of work you put into this thing, editing and all, also the 5 years drake song is incredible, I can't believe that didn't make the final cut. as a person who loves making music that's not necessarily funny but clever, you inspire me so much man. I come back to your stuff all the time and it's just bonkers how good you are at taking that part of you that wants you to die and giving it life instead, it takes a lot to be able to write a song that exposes your issues while also being able to do it without crying. one of the best songs I ever wrote was about one of my friends dying and the only time I've ever been able to sing it without crying was the first time I played it on the day he died because I was in shock, but I wouldn't have even been able to do that if you weren't so good at what you do. I totally understand if you never perform live again but keep doing what fulfills you. thank you so much dude.

I deeply appreciate seeing how. Many. Takes. And iterations. And practice runs. It took to make Inside. Like so much /fantastic/ art and design, Inside runs perfectly smoothly, and it doesn’t register how much **work** it took. This is inspiring to Keep Going when striving to make something creative and excellent. Thank you for sharing your work and for sharing this behind the scenes too.
