The two lights on the center console that light up after warming up.... and after the switch is put in the "on" position,... are for the "glow plugs" they light up when the plugs are hot enough to combust diesel fuel. Glow plugs are basically spark plugs for diesel engines. (Basically but not exactly the same) The engine heater actually heats the block, pan and oil.

FYI, this is the model just after the M88 Recovery vehicle (Bergepanzer 1). Leopard chassis rather than the M60 Patton chassis of the M88 line.
