One of those logistical things that you just don't think about much, but there has to be a way to swap it out with the spare grass so it can recover. It would be interesting to compare the ways that this is done in different stadiums and the other ways stadiums make their central space more flexible.

They remove the whole pitch as in like a rollover carpet (made up of smaller carpets of different sizes), and manually fixed based on certain measurements. Basically the bottom tray in the above video resting on wheels is not present and the bottom storage wouldn’t be that huge or deep below ground level to fit in whole pitch.

I'm wondering if they couldn't just build a metal cover for the grass field. Seems like it would be a lot cheaper to move just metal than metal plus dirt. On the other hand, while it's covered, it can't be treated with light to allow it to grow back. Maybe they made the right decision for once. Didn't expect that to happen in Spain!

Yes! And so is this newfangled nationality requirement in playing for teams representing nations. Base it all on localities, where you have to have been born there to represent the locality. Wow, just think of what a world-beater Ashington United would have been… Jackie Milburn and both the Charltons! No need for multi-million transfer fees! Jumpers as goal-posts, of course… another prudent saving to be passed on to the fans at the turnstiles. Bob a head and you’re in!

Instead of moving and storing the grass, why not just have a similar segmented, movable “patio” that moves in and is positioned over the pitch? It would have lights and irrigation on the bottom of the panels. This way the pitch is stable, doesn’t have joints and edges that might become exposed during a match.

The main issue is that you can’t have events directly set up on top the grass. That would simply damage it. They store the grass away and use the concrete slab for setting up events such as concerts, exhibitions, etc. That way the city doesn’t have to build multiple venues.
