The Indiana Pacers Are Breaking Basketball

Спорт

Today we're going to be talking about the Indiana Pacers and the start they've had to the 2023-24 season. The Pacers have been lighting up the league with their incredible fast paced play, which has them scoring nearly 130 points per game. They've had multiple eye popping final scores not even a quarter of the way into the season. They are being led by Tyrese Haliburton, who is quickly making his case for being one of the best point guards in the league, averaging over 25 points and 12 assists on great efficiency. But this team does have some negative aspects about it, leaving fans to wonder if their unreal fast paced style is sustainable. Just imagine if the Pacers ever got a whistle from the refs. The foul/ free throw disparity between them and their opponents is pretty significant, despite the Pacers having one of the most points in the paint per game in the league. Which doesn't make a lot of sense on account of them not being the #1 transition team (since the defense is bad and they don't get stops as often) in the league. Though they did show they CAN play defense and rebound in those last 8 minutes against the Pistons last night. Maybe that performance makes it click for them and then they just run teams out of the gym. Embiid and Giannis looked like they were going to collapse by the end of the games when the Pacers beat them.

    Doesn't change your point in total but the Celtics held us to 104 without Haliburton touching the floor in that game, Orlando was really the first time a team slowed down our first unit (and the Pacers were coming off a 5 day break). Haliburton is great playing slow offense when needed and has won games like that before

    Hali only played 25 minutes vs Orlando and we still got to like 110. 10 more minutes on the floor and we'd have had 15 to 20 more points.

    I disagree a bit with the "one of the toughest teams to beat in the playoffs" one. As they always say, things slow down in the playoffs. They're gonna lose that advantage whether they still run or not. Once they lose that advantage and still play bad defense, their near 0.500 record will become 1-4 max in the first round.

  • @jimmiecarter9479
    @jimmiecarter94795 ай бұрын

    All we need is to get into the playoffs for us to take this defense serious. Just a little open opportunity for us to get in an we should be ok. Pacers defense is really not that bad

  • @TheAnanaki

    @TheAnanaki

    5 ай бұрын

    It's pretty bad. That's the trade off though. But they have shown they can play situational defense and make clutch stops when necessary down the stretch. They also have a coach that is willing to close a game out without regard for a players image meaning hell play the hot guy. If they can continue to be constantly tested in this area they will improve and by seasons end they will be battle tested.

    You're confusing Smith and Nesmith toward the end. Only reason why you don't follow Nesmith more is cause you haven't watched enough Pacers games. Check out his recent Sideline Guys interview. He was the guy they sat down with following the dub against Hawks. He has actually been a dynamo since Celtics days, but you only see who is on the highlights. In Indy he has recently developed offense, but basically anchors and helps design the Ps "random" D.

    The Boston game doesn't count when evaluating what this team is capable of, because Haliburton didn't play that night, and this team is not the same without him. Sure, it counts in the standings, but it is not an indicator of what this team's ceiling is.

  • @drizzledaddygaming994
    @drizzledaddygaming9945 ай бұрын

    I think Tyrese Haliburton is actually the best point guard in the league. On paper, he's a 6'5 Joker. A walking bucket who dishes crazy dimes. He just doesn't grab boards like Jokic. The man facilitates the fastest offense in the league, and does a damn good job, and is on pace to have one of the most absurd 50/40/90 seasons we've ever seen...and like NOBODY is talking about him. ESPN hasn't so much as whispered his name. He's the only guard who's name even has a chance at being dropped in the same sentence as MVP right now, and if the Pacers can get some good defensive pieces by the deadline, and really look like a strong top 3, top 4 seed come playoffs, he might just steal it. I don't think he's a top 5 candidate today, but I think he's the only guard who has the chance at making a legitimate case by the end of the season. Yes, Luka looks like Luka and is doing Luka things, but he's still a dribble first guy who's gonna get a bucket before he throws a dime.
