Vimoh, the content you represent requires more people online and this is what we need as a society to discuss things on a platform that no one can disturb.

I grew up in Assam, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh (Gurgaon). The crowd in a political rally mainly consists of 3 groups and this is my first hand experience - a) Political workers ferried by the political party on buses and trucks b) poor and helpless people paid to coerced to attend the rally and ferried by trucks and buses c) Enthusiastic supporters and curious inlookers. The 3rd category is represented the minimum. The second category need not be paid, but often helpless and have to show public support to survive. In the late 90's in Bengal I have seen our maid taking leave to rally since she is afraid her benefits may get stuck if she doesn't. I have seen Government office workers forced to attend rallies otherwise they would get discriminated against at work. My uncle went several times deapite being a Congress supporter in a communist Bengal. In UP in a rally nearby our maid informed that BJP is giving away food packet and shawl to everyone attends. And of course they were ferrying in BJP workers and supporters from all over UP. Rallies are a way to showing strength in numbers.

And the same tactic is visible abroad as well. NRIs sometimes get forced to do nautanki in middle of the road in Times Square because their OCI benefits migh get affected if they don't show support for PM when he visits.

@@vimohlive My cousin is actually in the USA. The HSS - foreign branch of RSS is very strong there as also Overseas Friends of BJP. They arranged the transports, logistics etc and their members formed a sizeable portion of the attendees in the Madison Square and Howdy Modi event. Apart from that Hindu nationalists have penetrated and form the majority in all the Indian associations in major cities, have placed priests in temples who go in special visa etc. Hindu nationalists form the entirety of Republican Hindu Coalition. This is happening in a very organised way. These associations are also being given money through grants and donations and the management of such associations benefit from it. This is the reason Modi could get 50,0000 NRI's in his rally. Not to be doubted he is popular among large number of US based NRI's, and many Texan and nearby State's NRI's attended his rally by will, but he is not popular enough that people will take leave and fly to see him in Texas. Much of the travel money was "compensated" as per my cousin. This is where it is my opinion that Electoral Bonds and PM-Cares played a part.

Households with income less than 1.25 lakh are considered poor (destitute), those between 1.25 lakh and 5 lakh care considered poor but not destitute (aspirers). Middle class is any household with earning between 5lakh and 30 lakh. The middle class is further divided into lower and upper (seeker and thriver). Rich household earn 30 lakh or more including super-rich who earn 4 crore or more. Anyway, Taxes the middle class is paying, they are also getting in return - the same free health and education as everyone does. Now these free health and education are crap and need to improve. The free electricity of some units, free water etc. also apply to everyone including the middle class and the rich. There are "some" subsidies which are targeted to those who need it the most - the poor, or maybe targeted at farmers, poor students, etc. Majority of upper middle class and the rich say 'we support the subsidies on health and education, but remaining subsidies should not be there instead this money should be used in increasing health and education standards'. Four things affect this viewpoint - First - Lack of understanding of reality of the composition of Indian society and lack of empathy. Majority of Indian households fall under the aspirer category of 1.25-5 lakh. The destitute form 15% of Indian, aspirer form 52%, seeker and thriver form 30% and 3% are rich. The aspirer are not below poverty line, but still poor. They can barely afford electricity and water and rent, but they have to sacrifice on other basic things to afford that - maybe getting books, buying medicines or nutritious food and fruits. Free water and electricity allows them to save a bit more for medicine, books, switch on the light or fan for a bit longer, buy fruits and vegetables, combat food inflation better (and food is not just free rice and wheat) etc. I agree on choice - let people opt out of free electricity and water if they don't need it and that money to be used for healthcare and education. I am sure if we have that option 90% of who says there should not be subsidy on electricity and water will refuse to opt-out. The reason they will continue to say that since they don't get any benefit of any subsidy, its fair to get these benefits even though they can afford! This is the reason that when Governments offer these schemes, they don't opt out the middle class and the rich knowing they would be even more salty. Second - Selfish reason. The middle class, especially the thriver group are taxed the most and the rich finds way to dodge. The thrivers are not open to the idea that the rich should be taxed more because they have hope they will become rich one day and use the tax loopholes for the rich to dodge tax. Three - Zero willingness to participate in a true egalitarian welfare State among a section of middle class. The reality is many of them would never send their sons and daughters to public schools and hospitals because it a matter of status for them as well. Aryaan whose father and mother earn combined 25 Lakh cannot be seen going to the same school as Tinku who is their maid's son - even though the public-school standard is high. Much of the middle class's whining about not being able to send their sons and daughters to public schools and hospitals as they are bad is half the story, the other half being class being a barrier. So, the attack on some welfare measure is actually a subconscious attack on all welfare measure knowing that they will never be able to avail some welfare mechanism but refusing to realize that in a nation like India the privileged (the middle class and the rich are the privileged) have to bear more load and that the grievance should be on the loopholes for the rich to avoid tax, not on saving on subsidy that helps the poor and definitely not on the middle class not being able to escape tax net, being mainly salaried class. Therefore, they would rather have taxes lowered for the middle class. Four - This one is political. The current dispensation is labelling their social benefit schemes as welfare schemes and opposition rules States social benefit schemes as freebies. Tell them that AAP is building 8 hospitals, improved existing hospitals, increased beds, drastically improved quality of schools etc. before providing free electricity and water, they will then jump to debt argument. Then tell them about huge debt of the central Government and debt of many BJP ruled States and yet they give freebies without investing in improving public schools and hospitals first, they have no answer. Freebies is a dog whistle for this group to attack opposition ruled States.

regarding the public hospitals point, a very well known public hospital killed my dad by their precarious lack of sensibility and sensitivity. The services were pathetic too. No nurses to attend to, people were lying on the floor, a dying person was not offered ice to quench his thirst, no assistant doctors in the night, rats sprinting all over the floor, termite ridden beds, etc. I'm talking about this in a metropolitan city (Mumbai) - the financial capital of India. I cannot possibly fathom the despair people from rural parts of India might be feeling for the public infrastructure.

In the past I've agreed with almost everything from Vimoh, but have to say l actually found that he shifted the burden of proof from himself onto you: '*most*/*many* people are paid at rallies' is just a claim. As a scientific atheist, he should be aware that the burden belongs to the person that made the claim. Having said that, I think the real answer is actually a third position, but not in the middle. And for what it's worth, I think I also understand why you were getting a bit upset. Even though it seems like a passing point that you were both debating, I think the underlying assumptions you're both working with are really very divergent and kind of serious. Excellent conversation, I actually leaned more towards your position on that topic.

Bhai, Hinglish main likhna hai tho likho, lekin jis tareeke se likhte ho, kaafi mushkil hai samajhna usko. 3-4 baar padhna padhtha hai. Sab short forms ("karta hai" ke liye "krta h", "matlab" ke liye "mtlb", "karne" ke liye "krne" etc.) or koi punctuation hi nahin. Poore shabd tho isthamal karo, or jaha par zaroorat hai vaha thoda commas (,) or full stops (.) daalna shuru karo. Aapka likhne ka tareeka aapke demographic ko samajh aatha ho gaa, uske bahar nahin.

I may be wrong but the guy who came calling about how voter manipulation is not a thing later dnt have any idea how ruthless is the local politics and the recruitment of voters in India really is and what unethical ways are being applied by the local parties to entrust votes.you don't actually belong to a middle class and not know about it in india😊
