In Nigeria, we make our hair like this especially the Yorubas. We've been doing the inversion method since time immemorial. Lovely video.

I believe the Yorubas braid it from front to back called dindin; it’s braided flat on the scalp. Very ethnic and unique. All the same, all African traditional hair weaving, plating and braiding are gorgeous.

This is Hanu biyu in hausa language. (Two hands) Almost every young girl knew how to plait it years ago. We plait from the front down. I used to try this method before. I found it interesting. I was really playful then. This is a beautiful and neat hairdo. I am from Nigeria.

Interesting, when I first started braiding over 10 years ago for some reason this is how I braided ( self taught) then I was like why my braids look so different from others! I shortly realized I was braiding overhand instead of underhand. I soon learned both techniques, however, I do more underhand now, occasionally overhand when I want a flat braid, or french braid! Now I might try this style!! Thank you .

Born and raised in Maryland, USA. My mother was a braider when I was a child. This is the only way I know to do braids, honestly. I've seen her do them knotted as well in the early 80s. But I could never actually figure out how to make them even knotted. This is the method she taught me that I've always known. Took me a minute to listen to the guy to figure out what was supposed to be so 'different' about this braid. Beautiful braids, though.

I never braided before because I said my fingers were defected. The only way I can braid is overhand. (Feeding hair over) in cosmetology school they tried to teach me. I never could feed the hair under. So when they goddess braids came out. I could do them. I then realized that everyone couldn't braid like me. I braid little girls hair now. @@ashmarievlogs1259 I'm mixed, and can safely say that not all of us require protective styles lol. All jokes aside, make sure u educate yourself on ur daughter's specific hair type, which by itself can be frustrating. Some protective styles could actually damage her hair as opposed to helping. I love inside braiding! It’s the only way I can braid!! So this was perfect. I like this technique of adding the hair too! So many people get the overhand method confused for the underhand method & get mad when they’re corrected. THIS is TRUE OVERHAND/INSIDE braiding. Your hands overlap on top of one another when braiding each strand. That’s all it means. But the braid envelopes on itself. That’s why it’s called inside/inversion. Great video!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🫶🏾✨ Can’t wait to start practicing. 👩🏾🦱
The edges will break, one can see, it’s tight at the edges 😔
Yes,beautiful. Been braiding for a long time and this has always been the best method...painless and natural. I remember being younger & us calling it the "oldschool" way, lol if only we knew just how old school it was. Thanks for sharing!
I love the concept. I would have only one critique. Whoever finishes the braid would need to match the pattern and neatness of the starter. The braid didn't have a clean look start to finish. Love the concept never thought of that!
