The Incredible Story of YouTube’s Most Famous High-Mileage Car
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Miles the 'High Mileage Hero' Skoda Octavia is back!
"Miles" is a humble Mk1 Skoda Octavia, with a 1.9 TDI engine and an incredible story. Bought by @CarThrottle in 2018, he had 430,000 miles (692,000km) on the odometer, equivalent to 17 times around the Earth. They did a series of videos with Miles which now have over 14 million views in total and during that time he was cherished and restored to better than factory condition.
But since then, Miles has flown under the radar - where did he go and what happened to him? What does the future look like and will we see him again?

I’m not surprised at all. When I worked for Seat, a customer had their 1.9 PD Leon serviced with us religiously. It was 15 years old and had 255,000 miles on it. More reliable than a wood burning stove!

Great to see Miles still on the road! 🚙
Great to see that Miles is still going strong. Sounds like the new owner is a good fit to keep him on the road to 500k and beyond 😁
The Octavia is a value for money, reliable and durable workhorse built to last, as this example clearly demonstrates. I enjoyed watching the series from car throttle on this legendary example, from the equally legendary Czech brand❤.
I saw Miles at Mattwood 2023 which Alex hosted a few weeks back. Looked quite good then and I was shocked when I saw it as it was just sitting with all the other cars belonging to spectators of the show rather than inside the main event.

I also saw it there! The condition Miles is in is just like it was at Goodwood, so it's not too bad really :) I agree, it was a shame it was parked in the wrong area, I think the guys on the door didn't recognise it as anything other than an old Skoda so it ended up where it did (same area as my car, ha)
1st Octavia is just legend between reliable cars

great to se miles alive i did follow the series on car throttle and really hoped it went on to live a life. this car is famous and glad to hear the new keeper is going to sort the damage well done for finding miles to carry on his journey.
Great to see it survive good engines and being serviced properly have paid off .
Great to see that Miles is still on the road... A little bit of cosmetic TLC while make it look good again... This shows that regular servicing is the key to making a car last a long time...
I've one of these , it was bought brand new by my late father and changed hands within the family, I ended up with it and I love it, only clocked 145,000 miles to date though. it has the VE pump 110hp asv engine.

Hi. Great video! just one correction, it's not a 1.9 PD but a 1.9 VP, an older model of an 1.9 TDI with mechanical diesel pump unlike PD.
@Chriswales

It's a 1.9 VE not VP although guess it's understandable that Millennials to get confused and think all 1.9 VAG engines are PDs. I've owned a Leon 1.9 VE since 2006, engine runs great still got the same amount of power and gives over 55MPG. Rest of the car is falling apart through and will be scrapped in a year or two.
I had first dibs on buying this. Sadly i couldn't commit to it! Good luck
Nice to see it still works just a massive shame the owner who had it before this guy treated like shite

Have a Passat 130 PD Estate myself with 585,000 on it. It's off the road at the minute getting some new subframe bushes put in. Only major fault it's had was a head gasket failure at 170k miles. It was still driveable if you drove it easy but if you put the foot down the combustion gases were leaking into the cooling system and pressurising it. Easy fix and it's had no engine problems since. And as far as I know it's still on the original camshaft

@@JJonCars I managed to find a real gem when I took the other one off the road. A black 2005 Highline 130PD. Alot of niggly faults like window regulators, no brakes, fuel cooler damaged and really dull paint. The guy couldn't be bothered with it so he sold it to me for £250. Best bit is there's only 130k miles on it. Paint came up like new and including buying it, it's cost me £600. Will last a good few years.

The dent was unfortunate, but I think that the other issues are just par for the course for an older car like this. The headlining is actually quite a common issue I believe, they must have used terrible glue 😄 Main thing is it's had oil and filter changes and maintained properly, so the engine should keep going for a long time yet!
