The Incredible Hulk PLEASANTLY SURPRISED ME!! (Reaction)
So I just watched The Incredible Hulk!! I was a bit shocked to see Edward Norton as the hulk in this film and would like to know why they didn't stick with him? I love Mark Ruffalo and I want to see him as the hulk, I'm just curious. 🙂 But I felt this film did a really good job introducing Bruce Banner as a character, how he came to be the Hulk and his personality overall. Also the fact that they paid homage to the old hulk with the references; the purple pants, Lou Ferrigno, etc. It was a lot of fun and I hope you guys enjoy as well!!

    You are correct. Lou Ferrigno did indeed play the Hulk in the 70s tv series, “The Incredible Hulk”. And if you were paying close attention, a clip of the old series, “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” played on one tv. Lou Ferrigno played the original Hulk in the "Incredible Hulk" TV series from 1977 - 1981. He was a 2 time "Mr. Universe" champion in 1973 - 1974. He stood 6 foot 5 inches, and weighed 275 lbs.; no special effects needed; just green dye! Not only did Lou Ferrigno have a cameo in this movie as a security guard; he also was the Hulk's voice up until "Avenger's: Age of Ultron." Lou Ferrigon lost 80% of his hearing early on, and had a speech impediment. He started weight training at 13 years old to keep from being bullied. Since he could not afford to buy weight equipment, he used a broomstick and metal pails filled with cement. He eventually would compete alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition. Lou and Arnold were in the well know 1977 documentary "Pumping Iron".

    When it concerns The Hulk, the military is ALWAYS the bad guy. Ross as a General has as many men at his disposal as he can get. BUT no one under him knows anything about WHY he's actually pursuing the Hulk. He told everyone who would listen that Banner "stole" Government property and as soldiers, they do not have the authority or the right to say otherwise. It's like when Ross told Blonski that "IT was Banner." Blonski said "You have to explain that one to me sir," because he realized he was not given vital information to complete his mission. Ross replied "No I don't." Because he saw that Blonski realized Ross has his own private agenda that has nothing to do with military protocol. "As far as I'm concerned that man's whole body is property of the U.S. Government." Which means that the Hulk Hunt is not actually a sanctioned Military action but Ross personal vedetta.

Second, the only people who know WHY they are chasing Hulk is Ross and MAYBE one or two people HE trust. That's how Ross operates. Bruce was most certainly NOT a fugitive AND he did not steal state secrets. Ross made that shit up in order to ALLOW his superiors to give him what he needed in order to hunt Bruce down. If Ross had told Bruce what he was ACTUALLY working with, there would be NO Hulk. 9 times our of 10, Ross has created a problem when there didn't need to be one.

    @@patrickcromwell7554 Then you don't get why Bruce Banner is so conflicted. The Hulk is like a nuke bomb. He does incredible amounts of destruction when set off. You clearly don't understand the strength of the hulk either. Complimented by a creature who's rage is notoriously ridiculous and anger only makes him stronger, the lines between what he should punch and what he actually punches can become blurred. YOU may know that the hulk is ultimately a hero but what government wouldn't think "hey, we need to lock this thing down before we lose cities." after he's demolished part of New York City? Yes, Ross did see the hulk as a weapon but there is no government out there that wouldn't see the hulk as anything other than an extreme threat. When ever the hulk punches and destroys a building, people die. lol do you really think any government is going to say "eh, he's ok now. He's been wrongfully accused". That is just crazy, regardless of a "this guy lied about him" scenario. Also, hulk only gets along with other heroes because it's good for the movies. Some of marvel's greatest fights were from the hulk against other heroes. This is a 7' beast, who's seeing red in berserk rage, with strength comparable to superman. With all do respect, you don't seem to know really all that much about the hulk character. Regardless of what you may have seen in Avengers: Infinity War, even Thanos would prefer not to tangle with the hulk.

    @@razorsfury6519YOU just said the three MOST IMPORTANT words to describe the Hulk. "When set off" Hulk admittedly normally shows up WHEN set off, this is true, HOWEVER there have been times when Bruce needed to be "saved" otherwise he'd die, and Hulk has Shown up to save his life. Now you would think that anyone with an ounce of intelligence - who also is WELL AWARE that rage fuels the Hulk - would just leave him the EFF alone and allow him to just be calm until Bruce re-emerges, but NO. Ross IS NOT trying to save lives by hunting the Hulk, nor is he trying to minimise ANY destructive rage. Ross WANTS a new weapon. THAT'S ALL. He could not care less about collateral damage. He simply blames EVERYTHING on Banner BECAUSE he's the Hulk. And Yes, I do understand the strength of the Hulk Much better than most actually, as I actually KNOW his limitations when he gets compared to other heroes and whom he can actually challenge. For all you've tried to tell me of Hulk's destructive rage - of which I know full well - Hulk has also never outright attacked when NOT provoked. Nor has he simply destroyed shit just because it was there. His strength IS a big issue as to why things break in his hands, yes. But has he ever broken Betty?? NO. Has he ever harmed an innocent person who was minding their own business?? NO. Does Hulk ever feel threatened b a child or an animal?? NO. You seem to be trying to tell me that Hulk has NO CONCEPT of restraint, when that's very clearly NOT TRUE. If it were, he'd be breaking everything that he grabs. I get just how absurdly strong Hulk is, but to defend Incompetence and stupidity on Ross' part. That's just plain ignorance. MCU Ross is THE reason Hulk exists. HE knows it and is now trying to save his career by lyi9ng and fabricating reasons to get Bruce under HIS control. I guess it worked because his incompetent ass got promoted to Secretary of Defense.

    @@patrickcromwell7554 So what you are saying is you completely missed my point. Even having sex could set him off as shown in the movie. Bruce banner cant die. He revives as the hulk. Bruce can put a bullet in his own head and the hulk will spit the bullet out. You speak about the hulk as someone just observing him through the movie. Even the Avengers had to try and lock the hulk down on several occasions. He is absolutely a danger to the public every time he shows up. Even just going by the MCU, why was he trying to kill Blackwidow when he first appears in The Avengers? She didn't provoke him. Shield didn't provoke him yet he destroyed a significant part of their ship and likely killed people. He's fought Storn, the Fantastic 4, spderman, Wolverine, Ironman, silver surfer, Thor, ect.. in the comics, did they all deserve it? Hell, he's even fought superman. does superman deserve it? "Ross IS NOT trying to save lives by hunting the Hulk, nor is he trying to minimise ANY destructive rage. Ross WANTS a new weapon. THAT'S ALL." Then you don't know the characters very well. Ross showed the contrary, though misguided, not only in this movie but in other films he shows up in such as Civil War. He wasn't there just to get a "new weapon", he wanted to lock down all superheroes for their potential danger. "For all you've tried to tell me of Hulk's destructive rage - of which I know full well - Hulk has also never outright attacked when NOT provoked." Clearly you don't because you feel it is just fine to let a walking nuke bomb to do what he want's. Every government would feel different. also, I never said he destroys things simply because they are there but there is an insane amount of collateral damage when the hulk shows up hence his potential danger to the public. "I actually KNOW his limitations when he gets compared to other heroes and whom he can actually challenge." No you don't. Nothing you say is reliable since you seem to make up your own lore on the hulk. "You seem to be trying to tell me that Hulk has NO CONCEPT of restraint, when that's very clearly NOT TRUE. If it were, he'd be breaking everything that he grabs." What do you think happens when someone goes into a berserk rage? And yes, the hulk does pretty much destroy almost everything he puts his hands on. "I get just how absurdly strong Hulk is, but to defend Incompetence and stupidity on Ross' part." At what point was Ross "incompetent and stupid"? "MCU Ross is THE reason Hulk exists." So you are just making up MCU lore now? At no point was the MCU hulk origin explored. Since you are making things up as you go, there is no reason to continue this discussion because you seem to be the type that no matter how wrong you are, you will argue ridiculous point to the Ground. have fun with that.

    Yeah, so with the Hulk, Ross and his team were trying to re-create the lost Super Soldier serum that had transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America, but they didn't know what type of radiation was used to trigger it (as "Vita-Rays" were used in the 40's, gotta love that old-timey scifi stuff haha), so they used gamma radiation. This triggered a different transformation, releasing all of Bruce Banner's pent-up childhood anger and rage (he did not have a great childhood) that he's held in for years, and it turned him into the Hulk. The thing about this too is that technically, the Hulk can have infinite strength, as his strength grows the angrier he gets. Abomination is about twice as strong as baseline Hulk, but once he gets angry enough, he builds up the power to be able to beat Abomination, because Abom doesn't have that same ability. Abomination did not get killed, he was choked out by Hulk and then taken to The Vault, a SHIELD cryo-containment installation in Alaska. Sam Stearns, the professor you saw get some of Hulk's blood in his head wound becomes the Leader in the comics, one of Hulk's nemeses and pretty much the opposite of Hulk: super intelligence, mind powers like telepathy and telekinesis, and can manipulate gamma rays. Edward Norton really liked playing Bruce and was keen to explore more of that dark storyline, which Marvel initially agreed to, but then did a 180 and decided to make Hulk more family friendly for Avengers, so Norton left, and I don't blame him. Mark Ruffalo does a good job in the later films but... it's definitely a different feel to the Hulk persona. I'll also say that sometimes in this world... it's very appealing to just let go of all your worries, your anxieties, your fears, and just become a big green rage monster.

    General Ross is played by William Hurt, an _incredibly_ talented, distinguished actor who passed away on March 13, 2022, at the age of 71, in the most curiously anticlimactic way. I mean, no one noticed. Now, sure, that discourages me, but it also _baffles_ me. I mean, this man has played General Ross in _every_ MCU movie from this one up until _Black Widow,_ but he's also been in dozens of _other_ movies going back to the 1970's. He's also read several audiobooks and been in several _theater_ performances. He's won 13 awards. His death looks like it should've been announced on the evening news, but it wasn't. Such a curiously low profile this man had.

While conducting Gamma nuclear experiments, exposure to the radiation brings Bruce's inner monster to life. Whenever Bruce gets stressed or angry, the Hulk comes out. You can say that Bruce and Hulk are like the Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personalities. The Hulk can revert back to Bruce when his anger/temper is calmed down.

    -the -_-technically-_- first MCU movie- it was actually quite good for its earlier time, and while everyone has their opinions over MCU, this and Ang Lee's Hulk, I think this is the best design for Hulk itself, it looks like bottled rage. While we didn't get Norton in Avengers likely because of money, General Ross and Abomination did end up in the MCU - Blonsky being given a bootleg Captain America serum - not to mention RDJ's first appearance as Tony Stark during the post-credits scene, so it did lowkey lay some ground work. Nowadays it's much more accepted as part of MCU canon, especially given that the scene with Hulk coming out of the university corridor was used in the MCU series 'What If?' Indeed, Banner's blood is irradiated too with Gamma energy, in fact it's his blood which leads to She-Hulk's creation, since they used Banner's blood against his permission as a transfusion for his cousin Jennifer Walters. Yes, the Security Guard was indeed the OG Hulk, Lou Ferrigno. Until Mark Ruffalo they still used his facial structure for the Hulk form

    What Banner's version of the formula does psychologically is take what the person has most buried in their mind and bring it out. In the comics, Bruce's father was abusive to him and his mother, but Bruce was smart enough to realize that he couldn't do anything, and so swallowed his anger. When the Hulk was created, it unleashed this anger. The Abomination was a thrill junkie contained by military discipline, discipline that disappeared when he started to take the formula.

  • @flatebo1

    @flatebo1

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, but that whole "abusive dad" thing was a much later addition. Originally Hulk was a kind of werewolf. Banner turned into Hulk at night, then back to Banner during the day. But that's kind of limiting story-wise, so they eventually went with Banner becoming Hulk when he got angry. And as a weedy little science nerd, it's likely Banner was used to taking a lot of crap from people and just swallowing it because...weedy science nerd. But the gamma radiation gave his repressed anger an outlet. Ever since the TV show they've gotten away from Banner as a nuclear weapons designer and turned him into a medical researcher. Which, unfortunately, kind of shoves Rick Jones out of the Hulk origin story. And in the modern world it would be a tad unseemly to have one of the MCUs heroes being a WMD creator. At least Stark only made ordinary munitions. And originally Blonski was a KGB agent who was accidentally exposed to massive gamma radiation during one of Banner's attempts to rid himself of Hulk. But the Cold War is long over and the MCU needed a new origin for the character that fit the times.

Okay the effects weren't quite as good as they can do now but I can forgive effects if the story/writing and acting are there. Movie used to be about story telling believe it or not. FYI: originally the Hulk was gray but they couldn't maintain the same shade with consistency so they made him green(!). Also his name was Robert but the writer forgot that so he called him Bruce, then they said he was Robert Bruce Banner. That's how slapdash things were in the early '60s and that's before acid became popular.

    I need to see an edit of Banner falling back from the helicopter with Sora's music playing.😅
