Old School Basses bring back "Old School" music memories. Sometimes it HITS you like a flood, giving you pause & sometimes bringing you to your knees. Especially in the current "Industry" climate that has essentially voided all Genuine Soul, Funk and Rhythm & Blues Musicians and Singers. Keep holding up the banner, Mr. Long!!!

I have a Custom Shop version of this bass. It is everything Johnny says it is... and more!! I own several high-end, ultra-expensive basses and the Fender Suhr is noticeably better in every respect. So much so, that random people come up to me at gigs to say how much they like the tone of my bass. A few details that Johnny didn't share... The Fender Suhr-era Jazz Basses have slightly smaller bodies and use carbon fiber reinforcement rods in the neck to increase stability. The pickups have single slugs per string (as opposed to the double slugs used on all other Fender Jazz Basses). I totally agree with Johnny. They are some of the best instruments Fender has put out in the last 50 years!!

As I understand the bass is fully active without a passive option.... & it made an eclectic sound.... Dare I say Digitization.... Which may have been the sales downfall... For the boutique builders of super jazzes... Offered options.. Still great review...

I've noticed over the years that the really excellent Lewis Johnson sounding basses have this distinguished "twang & bite " to them that other basses just don't have !!.

That bass sounds nothing like a Music Man bass or other basses that Louis Johnson played.

Sounds, looks good! I'm picking up the slap pluck! Nice! I started playing bass in 1968 but we needed a rhythm guitar, put down the bass for over 50 years! Became a lead player, got married, went 9-5 for 50, retired, back into it! I loved your Rick video, and I always loved the Jazz bass- that one is outta-site!

Hello Johnny, congratulations on the 40k subscribers. I love the SM900 with the Eden cab and I love great tone just as you. You are blessed to come across this find. Can you shed some light on the history of this bass in reference to, this bass is made by Fender, but how did John Shur come into the picture for this bass? I think his last name is spelled Suhr if that is the person you are talking about. peace and blessings, will be praying for you and yours to my brother. Hello Hooty.
