The IMPOSSIBLE World Record | Women’s 800m

This is the Women's 800m world record, which is the longest standing World record in Track and field. Watch this video and you can probably understand why that is.
Athing Mu and Keely Hodgkinson could finally be the ones to try and break it

There is absolutely zero doubts that this woman was not extremely doped. A woman can not get this muscular without androgens it is just impossible. She has the body type of a male sprinter. You will never see a man this muscular setting a WR in any event longer than 400m because is not possible.

Kratochvilova set an unbelievable World record aged 32 in the Women's 800m, in what was only her 2nd race at that distance. And she did that whilst being built like she could've won the outright men's World Middleweight Boxing Championship! Until she was 28, Kratochvilova was at best a 'Journey man' type of athlete, but in just a few years she obliterated the 800m record, and improved her 400m record by, wait for it, a full 5 seconds! So, how likely is it that she was using performance enhancing drugs? Answer- Virtually Certain

Personally, I don't think that record is a clean one. Consider the upper body physique of world class 800 runners today (rather thin arms, understandably) compared with Kratochvilova and her striking deltoids, pecks, and triceps (I say the same of Flo Jo, btw). Unique training methods don't account for that upper body muscularity, especially when it's not vital to middle distance running.

The training you mentioned that she did really caught my attention. Today, everyone from middle distance to marathons only train a little in the gym and just run plain but I wonder if training with a higher resistance while running (weighted vest, restricted breathing, tire attached) would actually yield a greater gain then just plain running

Yeah, her training and her farm background were factors of her success. But the difference in her stature compared to girls like Jelimo and Mu makes her performance sketchy. I think especially in the 400/800 resistance training is ESSENTIAL. The interesting thing about these races is that you race to muscular failure similar to how you would in the weight room, and 400-1000m is really the only event range that is like this. I was always a 56-57 guy for most of highschool, until senior year I got injured for 3 months and could only lift. No speed work, only aerobic training on an elliptical, and lifting. A week after beginning running training again I ran 52.5. After getting back in good running shape and keeping up the work in the weight room, I broke 50 and 1:50 a year later in college. I think the lifting was easily the largest factor. I notice in these events the more muscular guys seem to have the better finishing kick (think mahkloufi, Snell, Symmonds) when in other events it seems to be the opposite.

Cheating is not confined to drug taking and was it ever the key issue? Drug taking within athletics is almost never fully understood by writers in forums, and see the issue as black and white and its far from it. How do you feel about athletes who have taken drugs outside of the testing 'Reveal time?' And are 100% clean when tested, albeit possess a body like tarzan? 1. Is drug taking the no. 1 issue? If a person competes in a women's event and 'she' has a massively high and not allowed testosterone level either occurring naturally or by injection how does such sit within your critical analysis? How do you feel about the level of track springiness (co-efficient of restitution) being unregulated and massively reducing records? How do you feel about modern shoe technology? Clothes technology and what is or should be banned (as in swimming) I know nothing about. Possibly not yet fully addressed? 2. How complicit are governing bodies in rule breaches? (a) For years (indeed until extremely recently) women in short distance events were allowed to compete notwithstanding illegal testosterone levels. (b) At at a not too long ago Olympics 96% of host competitors tested positive. There was only one disqualification based on such!!!!!!! So very rarely spoken of! I only ever saw it mentioned with credibility within a year of those Olympics. (c) Testing by blood / urine is only good for a few days after injestion. Taking a hair sample can be good for up to 30 days if the hair is long and has not been bleached, but a very rare test. There are many other things which I could list which support the notion that it's easy to cheat, or otherwise legally improve times without improvement and likely always will be, if one is that way disposed, and only careless fools get caught.

Flo Jo's records are in jeopardy, but seems unlikely. The women's 800M record could be the first to go down among the trans men of the 80s.

I'm not so sure she wasn't drug-free. I have seen some women who are ripped just as some men through insane training. When she trained at 4 a.m. on ice in winter, dragged the tyres, and ran on a cinder track, wearing a respirator to increase her lung capacity was just mad, but having worn a respirator I can tell you it does increase your VO2 max massively. What I see from the pictures and videos is a ripped body ahead of her time. Now if she did, then she did the same as all the Russian and American athletes were doing at the time, so her record should still stand. I hope Keely is the one to break the record, but she will have to take a leaf out of Kratochvilova's book and try some of these insane training methods to see if it improves her physique, stamina and times.

The good thing is, it will be true talent and real progression of training, technique and the human body developing with time. Without the use of harmful substances. When it happens, it will be amazing. And I'm sure it will surprise everyone. And it would be wonderful even if it's someone completely new and unknown that does it.

In her time in the Czechoslovakia, it looked like she trained every day. No family, no friends, no fun, no personal time off. Just hard training. It's similar to Viktor Tikhonov's base in hockey. This was the time. Today, no one would want to live like this and train for one thing. Maybe she was taking drugs unknowingly. I think not. That kind of person just isn't born often. To this day, he has no health consequences from the drugs and still runs. If she took drugs a lot, she wouldn't be able to live like this anymore.

If Kratochkilova DID run a fair race and won on merit she has had to survive 40 years of finger pointing, verbal allegations and abuse simply for the period in which she ran AND due to her country and others similar having a record of " WIN, WIN, WIN. No matter how you do it, that isn't important, just win.

Everyone---ladies---in the Communist East Block (East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Russia) were taking steroids, various enhancement drugs---all towards increasing testosterone (for women---there are no records by men at this time of any significance). Marita Koch, Jarmila Kratochvilova, Tatyana Kazankina, were all world-record holders, aided by drugs---and, yes, tough unorthodox training. Flo Jo, also was drug-aided. She nearly grew a moustache. She knew she would never win gold or break the world record without it. So, why did they do it? Ambition makes people do dishonest things, and cheat, anything to win, and run a world-record. There a fewer drugs for men---I think---as there are for women, so, it is not exactly to a man's advantage. Hicham El Guerrouge, I believe, did not take any enhancements, medical aids, at all. He was born with a spry, light frame, the perfect physique, and he trained unquestionably HARD---to the point of tears (sobbing) it has been said. It was willpower that got him to the top. Look at Jacob Ingebrigtsen. Sheer willpower, courage, and strength. And good, if not great, genes. Clean. Let them keep their records. Someone will break them---cleanly (more advanced training techniques, faster tracks, better spikes, etc..). I believe that Kelly Hodgkinson, and Athing Mu, either, can do it, in time.
