You're So lucky!! I have had Yaroslava on my Google News alert for years and nearly fell over when the alert popped up she had broke the record! Man I wish we all could have watched it live but I the olympics are ahead and she is looking fit. Whatever the issue was that caused her to wear the brace on her thighs clearly has resolved so being able to watch her live during the Olympics will be incredible . Hopefully they will play the WR jump many times so more people around the world are made aware of her achievement. Another WR is to much to hope for but a gold medal is certainly within her reach this year! Exciting!

Surely I can’t be the only one disappointed by the commentary during Mahuchikh’s 2.10m. During track events they’ll be screaming their heads off in delight when someone runs the 18th fastest time in history, meanwhile this completely unexpected 2.10m for one of the oldest records in athletics felt like it was being commentated as some run-of-the-mill competition.

@@JumpmanTFI think it was in Eugene at the 2022 world championships that they almost missed Mondo’s world record. But not playing this high jump record live is a crime. They even said “she’ll never forget this” in a flat tone, when I’ve heard them say “everybody who watched this moment will remember where they were when it happened for the rest of their lives” for lesser feats. In my opinion this is the greatest moment in athletics this year and it’s like they barely noticed it. Same goes for Katzberg’s 84m hammer throw earlier this year, making him the second furthest throwing non-eastern bloc thrower in history, and people have barely noticed. I was a track athlete myself, but the lack of attention to field events is really frustrating.

The current Olympic champion (who deserves a great deal of respect as an athlete) is from Russia, and she was awarded a lieutenant title from the Russian military for her accomplishments. Now, in the wake of what that same Russian military has done in the country of Ukraine, what a great symbol for Ukraine if Yaroslava not only wins the Olympics following the Russian, but manages to break one of the oldest soviet era records in the book while doing it. Very glad for what Mahuchikh has managed to accomplish.

Nice recap, got a subscribe from me. I started following Women's HJ due to the stunning beauty of Mahuchikh's compatriot, Levchenko, who also happens to be legit. When Yaroslava came along I immediately predicted she would break the world record. The height she was getting on bars at 2.04 & 05 was simply undeniable. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long. I thought she'd get it while winning the '21 Olympics. I missed that call but continued to be confident it was coming. Btw, how weird is it the Ukraine has two such beautiful high jumpers at the same time? Levchenko could be a European runway model and Mahuchikh could do commercial work as the wholesome girl next door type beauty.

Please confirm one fact for me: in that 800m race all the athletes were wearing shoes with a carbon fibre insert? For example the Alphafly 3 is designed with a unique foam sole, a thin plate of curved carbon fibre, and two bubble-like Air Zoom airbag cushions at the ball of the foot. This is also known as a mechanical aid and mechanical aids are, of course, barred from athletics. So WTF are athletes not only using it in competitions but being allowed to break records? If you put a big metal spring under the sole of your shoes you would be barred from competing. The spring is a mechanical aid. Why has the world gone mad and forgotten what a mechanical aid is?!!!!!!!

For a little more, at the FBK games, Niels Laros of the Netherlands ran a world junior record in the 1000 meters with 2:14 :37 and teammate Jessica Schilder won the women's shot furthering her national record to 20.33m in a competition that saw 3 women go over 20 meters including women's shot put legend Gong Lijiao at 35 YEARS OLD. Schilder is a Netherlands legend and we could be looking at 5 women over 20m in the Olympic (Ross, Saunders, Jackson of the USA, Lijiao and Schilder). Back in Paris you have to recognize all the PB's SB's and NR's set in the women's 1500. When greats like Kipyegon run, they carry everyone to greatness. 3 men over 85 meters in the javilen and shoutout to one of my personal favorite throwers Jordine Van Klinklen for 67.23 and second behind Allman. She's the NCAA discus record holder and competes in both the discus and shot put on the world stage being a finalist in both last year in Budapest. The Netherlands have a lot of pretty dominant athletes and if World Athletics ever implemented a team scoring or team title feature they'd be a threat...... for second of course.

@@JumpmanTF I think what also must be considered is that a great long or triple jump can be measured exactly but if a high jumper or pole vaulter clears the bar by a wide margin they are only credited for the height of the bar. I do wonder if some of the 2.08 and 2.07 jumps in the past would've cleared 2.09 or even 2.10. Yaroslava's 2.07 was so clean it looked like it would've cleared at least 2.09. There can't have been many attempts at 2.10 and when it does the athlete will usually be tired after a long competition.
