They discuss how exceptional recommendations can convince the admissions committee to admit and applicant, and how they can break ties between equally qualified candidates. Katy discusses the importance of approaching recommenders with enthusiasm and support, and how to provide them with detailed information about your accomplishments. Can we ask an NGO where we have provided volunteer services to be our recommender? Or Is it necessary to ask for a recommendation from our professional workplace?

Your primary recommender should ideally be your current professional supervisor. Alternatively, your recommender can be a previous supervisor from your current or past workplace if, for example, you have not been working very long with your current supervisor. If the MBA program asks for two recommenders though, then you could ask your supervisor from your volunteer work to write a recommendation, especially if this is an activity where you have invested significant time and made an impact.
