I always loved Lisa and related to her and it was always disheartening to find out how hated she was. Most of the characters I related to as a kid were seen as annoying or preachy and I always felt saddened by this.

I'd say this view of Lisa only applies to Golden era to a firm cutoff on pre 2015. Watch any of the Simpsons episodes post that period and see if she even shows the same level of empathy as she did in Lisa the Vegetarian. The writers have always used her as a mouthpiece to communicate their thoughts much like Seth MacFarlane and Brian. I just feel that the newer writers don't have the self awareness to have empathy to write the nuances of golden era Lisa.

I disagree with you on Brian. The other characters often make fun of him for being a stereotypical liberal and he is shown to be a hypocrite sometimes. Also, a ton of new Lisa stories are really good. Lisa's Belly is a good one.

There are a lot of golden episodes in the later seasons I promise ! I know this is such an unpopular opinion - but maybe it’s just me I love this show so much. A super recent episode about Lisa I think Titled “Lisa’s tummy” came out maybe a year ago and it made me cry.

Lisa is also my favorite character, and I feel that she is very underrated not only within the fandom, but in-universe as well. Also, Bart is not conservative, he is a libertarian.

It's hilarious that Ted Cruz likens Bart to the conservative party, given the massive backlash from conservatives in the early 90s towards the show and mainly Bart Simpson for his slacker rebelliousness.

This video is so well made and articulate. For most of my life I’ve been obsessed with The Simpsons. It’s my ultimate comfort show. I’ve always been compare to Lisa, ever since I was her age. I’m 25 now and still get compared to her. (And my sister compared to Bart.) I actually searched for a video like this because of all the hate Lisa does get. I wondered if people thought the same things about me or if when they compare me to her, they mean it as an insult. I wanted to understand her more beyond the superficial things people see her as and this video is exactly what I was looking for. A video about her true character and an analysis. I’m happy to be like Lisa. Thank you.

Oh my goodness, I love this video. I grew up watching The Simpsons and *always* related to Lisa - including when I was an outspoken 8-year-old second grader. I even plan on getting a small tattoo of Lisa's saxophone as a tribute to her character and a reminder to keep the little Lisa inside of me alive, to never give up on being kind and trying to make the world a better place. This video is a great summation of why this character means so much to me, thank you 💛

I relate so much to Lisa. It makes me sad that the new writers cling so much to a weird Tumblr version that seems to almost be from a conservative lens. When I was an 8 year old girl, Lisa was probably the only other girl my age that I related to. I couldn't understand why others didn't care or have compassion, why they were cruel, or why I was made fun of when I made intellectual comments. I'm not saying I was a child genius by any means, but it's hard being a kid when you act too adult. I also see components of that compassion (and ADHD) in both of the kids. Bart presents like a boy stereotypically does (acting out), but he tends to act out either on impulse for immediate gratification or because he is upset with injustices. Lisa has issues with emotional regulation stemming from the same place, but she becomes hypervigilant. As those traits of temperament and developmental disorders are often hereditary, I really like how nuanced the two siblings are. They seem like two sides of the same coin and I like seeing when they get along as kids together. Great video (: congrats on the view count!

Was just reccomended this, what an excellent dissection of Lisa. I feel like she's such an underappreciated and often overlooked and misunderstood character even by Simpson fans, great job!

She is BY FAR my favorite Simpsons character, and one of my favorite animated characters of all time. I can't stand seeing how many people hate her. She's so cute, so intelligent, and has so many great things to say. I'd love to have her as a friend.

One of the problems i had with how they manage lisa was the inconsistency in their friends, like Ashley was her intelectual rival, there she could push in that way that no one understand her, but yeah lets reset the characters bcs the status quo rocks

Lisa Simpson has always been my favorite character and I loved her more when I discovered more about my INFJ personality. She's an INFJ hero that I look up to sometimes.

i'm so glad this video exists. i relate so much to lisa it hurts to realize most of the viewers consider her annoying or preachy, condemning her as terrible when she's just a child... she has a lot to learn, she's very flawed, and that's what makes her relatable.

They're also clearly getting their impressions from the middle seasons and modern era, where they've made her a bit of a trendhopper surrogate for whatever the writers are trying to do to make the show still feel "current". Yet, she's not the only character written that way, but since she's a girl, it's "annoying"

Lisa was always my favourite Simpsons character Great analysis, the contribution of her character to the show is so overlooked, but without Lisa the show would be really different and loose so much of what makes the Simpsons the show it is, especially for all of the people who found her the most relatable growing up :)

I just wanna say I'm very impressed by this channel and especially this video. However, I always gotta further defend Lisa's behavior in Lisa the Vegetarian. Vegans coming off as preachy is not tantamount to carnists "forcing their views" onto animals. Billions of sentient beings are needlessly subjected to systemic torture and slaughter for the sake of custom and pleasure. I think with that understanding, Lisa's frustration is entirely justified. She wasn't in the wrong; it was everybody else's emotional attachment to their food. The much more impactful character arc was Homer coming to approach it with an open mind.

Lisa is the most insufferable character in the entire show
