If you've used a standard Kantreal pattern in Rogue Trader, you're first thought reading its statline may be that its not that good compared to other options in the early game, till you consider that this is a weapon with (relatively) low recoil, bonuses to hitting targets in cover and has penalties against dodging. Compared to the (s)crappy autoguns you'll find scattered throughout the world that almost require you to dump rounds at a target till they hit, a lasgun will hit more often for more damage and with higher ammo efficency.

The Lasgun is considered weak merely due to its relative nature to the weapons wielded by those enemies still currently alive, as it has killed everything else.

@@burakardakaratasli6376 You don't. There are just that many on a proper deployment of guardsman. One Lasgun exploding like a frag grenade could also solve the problem, and then be replaced by one of the 99999 still on the battlefield among the dead.

@@war_designer8763 Not the original guy, but sort of. It's not that they're completely ineffective, it's that they're not the best choice. Lasguns are cheap, easy to produce weapons that are reliable and effective enough to use. Especially en masse like in the Imperial Guard. It's basically the AK platform of 40k. There are better variants of the lasgun, like the Hellgun, and other weapons out there that are just better, but they're harder to produce and maintain comparatively.

It's largely a perception based on game mechanics, lasguns are strength 3, against toughness 4 opponents they need a 5+ to wound. So given the numbers toughness 4 and above enemies combined with the 50% hit rate of the Guard infantry the perception is their ineffective. I think this has become more prominent in modern versions of 40k and the force structure and games mechanics changed with new codexes. Back in the day we found lasguns plenty effective, but then you weren't firing a squad against a marine squad, you were firing entire platoons at which point the maths of its effectiveness changes somewhat.

Well no, Lasguns can easily pierce the skin of Orks, Traitors, Daemos, Eldars, Taus and Tyranids, but the Lasgun as the bullets, are innefective agaisnt well positioned armor, and all of those enemies wear heavy armor. But get trapped in a Wall of Lasers and not even the strongest enemy of mankind will get lots of damage.

To hell with fancy space marines, The Guard are, and always will be The Emperors Hammer, and humanities true bulwark against the horrors of space. For the Emperor!!!

The Astartes, Knights and Titans are cool af and are the most aesthetically pleasing aspects of 40k. I love the world eaters, death guard and daemons of khorne. But I have the most respect for the guard. Normal men and women holding the line in the cheapest, most mass produceable and minimalist equipment against the absolute horrors of the galaxy. No augmentations, nothing special besides the desire to kill the unclean and die standing for mankind.

"Cadia Stands." Those words have always disgusted me to the bone. The Guard Stands. Not just Cadia. The guard, who comes from many worlds and from many ideals all, fall into line with one purpose. To serve the Emperor. To do a duty that all Guardsmen do. To stand and face the foe. Cadia Stands is a battle cry that ignores all who beside the Cadians. Its arrogant. It says we are better than you became we are Cadian. We guess what Cadian? I don't give a frak where you're from. The Guard Stands and we all stand to together in his name. Respect that or get out of my army.

In warhammer tabletop games, I chose the Imperial Guardsmen, specifically Death Korps of Krieg, to build and play as, and by the God Emperor, this video is a great example of why I chose to play as Astra Militarum. 🫡
