I have 4 brothers, grew up a tomboy, I was the only girls amongst my brothers and cousins. As a child, I idolized my father for his strength. When I got married, and separated after 4 years of marriage, for the first time in my life I felt vulnerable or unsafe. My brother and I are 11 months apart, I was never really alone. During the period of separation, I started parking my car in better lit areas, looking in all directions to make myself aware of my surroundings, not just for me but for my young daughter. I remembered my mother's words when she said to me as a child that the man puts the respected. Meaning men are more inclined to respect when they see another man around. As tough as I was growing up, resting bitch face and all, guys respected me more when I was with my brother or cousins.

I can low-key relate to that. We're 3 brothers and a sister. Her confidence and pride is on another level whenever she's out with us boys. She recently moved down south of the country to pursue law and she keeps saying, 'half of everything she felt seems to be lost'

This is absolutely incorrect from my perspective. Woman walk through the world knowing that we are prey yet remain vigilant, calm and courageous. We are constantly scanning our surroundings. We are alert to the energy that a man exudes as well as his undercurrent. Ask any woman if she has had any close calls and they can give you a few examples off the top of their heads. There are places that we won`t go, things that we won`t do because they put us at unnecessary risk. To say that we are unaware is totally inaccurate. We are completely aware but handle it with ease and grace.

I can't say your life example doesn't prove your statement in some sense (because you're talking about your own experiences), but overall, I very much disagree. Women, in general, are dense when it comes to predator detection. The "close-calls" you speak of were probably something you had during your late teen and young adult years. Violence is very much foreign to women. I can't tell you how big the threat of violence was from the 4th grade on, for all the boys I knew growing up. Like you literally had to taper every interaction with boys, young adults, and even girls sometimes (since young girls seem to think they can just wack guys lol). Men are twice as docile when they interact with women, that's what a lot of women don't take in perspective when they talk about how "prepared" they are for violence. I can't tell you how many fights I've been in, even when trying to avoid them. I literally sleep next to my gun and have 2 points of escape from my home, besides the front door, if I ever get invaded. Let alone a laundry list of places that I certainly would never go to alone or without a gun. These are just basic things for men. It's slightly changing because boys are being sheltered a lot more, and you find fewer young men who've even been in a fight, but I still would feel more comfortable in a dangerous area with my guy friend than any woman I know.

  • @ladysmith7747

@@DaBearsManiac2 The percentage of woman who have been raped is higher that you would expect. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was taught to be vigilant from a young age as were most of my friends. Girls typically don`t get into fights but they are harassed by men on a regular basis. I agree with you that men are generally chill because they know how quickly things can escalate with another man. But that is a different realm then man just generally thinking that they can perv on women anytime that they feel like it. Then there is the whole trafficking thing that young girls can be susceptible to. Without even thinking about I position myself so that I am in a position of control. I travelled extensively throughout Latin America and have lived there for several years. When I was younger the men were constantly after it. Now that I am much older they are polite, kind and respectful.

I had 2 older brothers and I learned the same things they learned...and more. I learned how young boys/ men think and how my body would serve as an asset or liability in my life. I learned how to equalize the threat that potential men could be to me. I learned to cover my body if I wanted to be taken seriously. I dressed the way I expected to be treated. That's not misogynist or sexist. It's called reality. I treat all people the way they present themselves. If they have no ambition to dress better than a t-shirt and jeans, that's how I treat them. Lack of personal care demonstrates the person is lazy. Americans have lost their way. They dress like they just crawled out of bed, going to friend's house to play video games or they're going to work in the yard. You can dress "nice" without wearing a suit and tie. Collared shirts, tucked into your pants worn around your waist looks more presentable than what Americans are offering. Comb your hair, wash your face, brush your teeth, wear deodorant, take a shower every day. And present yourself the way you expect to be treated. I'm considered "dressed up" at my employment, most the people dress like I've described above. Just because we don't have a mandatory dress code allows people to dress like they're 9 years old. If at a professional function, dress like it. Your childhood is over, time to adult! Women, nobody wants to see your ass and breasts exposed, and the people who do font respect you or your body. They're looking for a cheap thrill and you're the prop.

Tate, and the people agreeing with him, needs to provide a source for the claim that women are not familiar with, or consider, threats, violence and enemies first, because that was the absolute claim I was responding to. But just asking women, and truly listening to what kind of experiences they have would be a good start. Much, but not all, of violence directed towards women and girls is hidden, happening in the "sanctity" of the home for example. There's loads of statistics, but I don't have the time, energy or resources to drag that up for you right now, as I am recovering from my own bouts with violence, within a quite violent environment called a city women's shelter.

I still amaze myself how women still walk the streets alone at night and still do except lifts from strangers or spend time in a pub drinking! Next best thing is they wake up in the morning with somebody they don't even know! He is sayinh women pls b careful u are after all the more vulnerable of the 2 sexes! If u in ur mind think u can protect urself that u are of equal strength and can get away from a man u only fooling urself! Somehow i don't think women even consider that! Lastly if the shoe doesn't fit u it obviously doesn't apply! But there sure are ways u can protect urself and not become another statistic! Rather be safe than sorry!

I have to disagree with Tate. Yes, there are ignorant women. However, I feel like women are more aware of danger than men. But we as women go into run and hide from danger vs. men fight back. We subconsciously question can I kidnapped here, where can I run, who is around to help me. What to do if a man grabs me from behind or is on top of me... how would I get out.. there is a suspicious group. Let me cross the street. We're more vulnerable than men, so we have to constantly look around us. Now, I'm also Tate's age. We didn't grow up posting ish on social media. We had to interact with people face to face. Social media has been frying the brains of our youth. So perhaps that inner monolog that speaks there's suspicion gets ignored now that their face is glued to the phone.

Men are the protectors, it's in their wiring. I happened to be on an airplane sitting next to a guy who is in the military. We chatted on and off throughout the flight very casually about whatever, general chit-chat. Nothing sexual, nothing that made me feel uncomfortable - Mostly chatting about cars, aircraft, just stuff. Then I asked him how he felt about women being in the military, more specifically, how he felt about women being on the front lines. He didn't talk about how women's appearance distracted him. He did say that as a man, he feels obligated to keep one eye on a woman, next to him on the front lines, to protect her, and this in fact what takes his full attention away from keeping both eyes on the enemy, essentially putting his life at risk, and the lives of others in his unit. Men protecting women is not a conscious thing, it is built into their DNA. And every woman wants to feel that protection from a man. Any woman who says, she can look after herself and can physically protect herself in the same way as a man can protect her is either LYING or STUPID.
