The IMAX Theatre you can Actually Wear!! - XREAL Air 2 Pro + Beam

I finally had the opportunity to try the new XREAL Air 2 Pro with the Beam, and I'm gonna have to say, I'm impressed.

This is precisely the form factor ideal for the passive entertainment/travel category, and honestly something like this could sell like crazy with a bit more polish and marketing. The jog controller + battery combo is a clever way to package both control and power together. For the Apple fan base this is where I honestly think Apple should be aiming their product at, and maybe Vision Pro remains the "spatial computing" device of the future concept. Meta I think has the perfect VR enthusiast device, it has good VR/AR capability at a affordable price, but still too heavy to be the go to device for passive travel entertainment.

Nice review. What about color accuracy (norms)? REC 709, sRGB, DCI-P3? Are there any calibrated profiles? If it's displaying the native panel colors, it would be way to oversaturated. Can it display 24p (23,976p) with correct frame pacing (without pulldown judder)? Does it work with 3D Blu-Rays, 3D MVC MKV and 3D SBS /HOU MKV?

Software is XReal's weak spot. Their Windows Nebula app is still in Beta and while using it, there is still a lot of "tearing" while moving your head (the Mac app is out of Beta, can't say how good it is). Most expect them to move this out of Beta. There are other 3rd party apps you can try but they take a bit more technical know how to use. CES 2024 had a large AR presents and there was a puck device with a touch pad on top that you could plug glassed into like the Beam but more powerful.

    1) XReal and this class of AR devices are super light, don't have batteries as you plug them into the source to provide power and video. 2) You can see through these. One KZreadr rode his eBike around with XReal and Beam, putting the window in the lower quadrant with google maps. 3) The image is super clear, I can read eBooks with it. And you can use apps like Phoenix head tracking to translate the head movement to mouse or such to allow VR games or just play regular PC games with your head taking place of your mouse. Etc.

I tried this for more than one month and I used my metaquest3 10 times more. I wouldn't ride bike or even walk on the streets while watching something. Because since it is closer to your eye you either focus the screen or the environment. It is not something like watching tv from a distance. And when I wear it, it blocks most of the fov and it makes me to try to see the environment through the downside of the glasses. Also I have posted a comment about my experience.

I used one for more than 1 month and returned it. It is good for entertaining but my main usecase was to replace my monitor. It has blurry edges and sides, no matter what i tried I couldn't solve that, also 2 other people who tried confirmed. The text are not clear and have some buble effects over here and there, which can be ignored by using airbeam maybe. Because the bubble effects on the lens are standing still. It is like wering dirty glasses. While reading with a dirty glasses you can turn your head a little bit and see the text through the clean part of the glasses. It is not possible with a standing still image. I tried using windows app but it is not ready and stable yet, also uses a lot of resources. And since fov and resolution is limited, it is not a nice experience. It is not possible to see the entire monitor. The screen size feels same as my 27'' monitor in a comfortable distance (i prefer to be a little bit closer because my monitor is 4k, often I use it as 4 seperate 1080p screen) which I work or game. 1080p is not clear as a 4k monitor. Without beam, it is a different experience, you can simulate it like standig closer to your monitor and try to use it while not turning your head. And also I found it not comfortable to wear, although I don't have a big head it squeeze my head more than my regular sun glasses and gave headache nearly every time after using 30min. The meta quest 3 is way better for work, but has other limitations like weight and also texts are not clear as a monitor. So none of them will replace my monitor, I would like to try bigscreen but it is expensive and doesn't have the option to return. But it is very subjective experience, the best would be to buy it, try it and if it is not for you, return it like I did. I did research a lot, before buy, watched reviews, read lots of comments etc. but first none of the youtubers really talks about blurry edges and the other problems except two, and the second most of the people uses it for entertaining, and most of the problems that i had while trying to use it as a monitor to work.

These are only available in Australia on eBay for $1000AUD. Not worth it just for a virtual movie screen. Just more technology to have to update and continuing paying for. No thanks.

The problem with these glasses is that the lens is so small it looks like you are watching a movie through a penny coin and it becomes very uncomfortable in my experience. Their priority should be use bigger lens for better fov and stop with these other irrelevant gimmicks

Idk what you mean. The screens appear really large when you’re wearing the glasses. It’s like a 100” screen

@@EricHall1990 i dont mean what you watch itself i mean the display size. even if you are seeing 200-inch size content, you still feel uncomfortable because you have to watched it through a 0.55-inch display size, so it feels like you are watching something big though a penny coin. these display sizes should be 1 inch for comfort

imagine if apple made something like this for $700 instead and not that terrible piece of junk called the vision pro.
