THE HUNT - A Quest For The Record LAKE TROUT - Season 2

Спорт

Can we break the record?! It's season 2 in our quest to catch the record Oregon lake trout. Lake trout fishing is one of our favorite fisheries. This special species gets huge, puts up a hell of a fight, and are extremely aggressive. We use electronics to cruise around the lake in search of these trophy lake trout. In season 2 of our quest were with Todd and Alex again. This season, we brought our good buddy Shaun with us, and we actually spend a couple of days with our own boats in search of these fish! Can we finally break the record held since 1984? Watch the full episode to find out!

Alex told us some funny stories of the tapping of this episode. Lot of edits had to be done we heard. If you get a chance to get on the boat with Akex do it. Great guy and knows his stuff.

I missed a nice one tonight, I had a pink jighead with 4 or 5 minnows all crammed in a wad sitting on bottom in 25', had him on for a minute and he bent the hook on my jighead and shook off.

Great video!! Lakers are tail biters to wound the fish then eat it as it bleeds out. When we get bit ice fishing and miss on the set we drop it slowly back down like it is a wounded fish falling to the bottom twitching it. When the rod went straight up the laker had come from below and grabbed it, still swimming up, then it turned and dove.

Here in Western Washington, the lakes on this side of the mountains are too shallow to support Mackinaw trout....but going East until you are in Eastern Washington, there are some lakes that do indeed have these fish, including Lake Chelan--the 3rd deepest lake in the USA at 1,500 feet. Mackinaw prefer cold water--and that means deep water, 100 feet or more down there. I know of one smaller lake in the Western foothills of the Cascades-Lake Rosieger, that is around 130' deep--I would like to see if these fish could adapt to a smaller, but kinda deep lake like Rosieger...Right next to Seattle, we have a large, pretty deep lake-Lake Washington-but I do not believe Mackinaw exist in that lake.

If you ever get the chance, return to Michigan in September and book a trip to Stannard Rock. Plan a minimum of a week, you "should" get a day you can get out. On the days you cannot get on the lake due to weather, you can fish the tribs of Superior, Michigan or Huron for Chinook, Pinks, Steelhead, and yes, Atlantic salmon, as well as some huge lake run browns. On the ONE day you hopefully can get to the "rock"....you will find perhaps the finest combination of numbers and size of lakers on the planet. You "might" averages slightly larger on say, Great Slave or Great Bear in Canada...but you will be close at Stannard, and if you hit it right you will average mid 20's, with potential to the 50's. The U.S. national record is from there(it's also the Michigan state record), of 62 lbs. Buddy of mine went last year and got 10 over 30 and 2 over 40...in one day. It's relatively shallow fishing on the reef, often in under 40 feet, you use spinning tackle and big jigs or jiggins spoons.

I been out on Lake Ontario and come by 5 floaters in a day. Guys not understanding how to handle these old fish. Alot of Salmon trollers pick em up on riggers and what not. Toss them big Ole "greasers" back without any care. They just float away behind the wash of the kicker. Truly sickening. Well done taking care of those slobs Addicts.
