I seem to remember, from the book, that pretty much everyone dies tragically and/or pointlessly and Quasimodo is no hero in the original. I prefer Disney's happy ending :) Watch one of the other remakes for a deeper investigation into human nature and failings.

it seems only apt that our two dear sweet Esmeraldas, of the Homies, should appreciate and evaluate a beloved Disney classic such as this one. The looks of Quasimodo in this version certainly seems to be inspired from Charles Laughton's performance in the 1939 film of the same name.🤩😍

1996's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is one of my favorite animated films of all-time and watching it with adult eyes only has made it even greater. Based on the novel from author Victor Hugo, it tells a truly dark and haunting tale that highlights the worst aspects of human nature as we see disfigured Quasimodo who has been locked away in a tower rise to the occasion and become a hero. When a chance encounter with a local gypsy named Esmeralda leads to them having a friendship, we see Quasimodo's guardian Judge Claude Frollo go on a quest to hunt down and capture this woman even if it means burning down the city in order to do so.

This is a film that I enjoyed as a kid and have found a new appreciation for as an adult, especially after 5 semesters of Latin in college. It's by far one of Disney's darkest films with its darkest villain and great music. Quasimodo-Patron Saint of the Friend Zone.

"How can this movie be made for children?" though this movie is rated "G" meaning "General audience" but i think of it as "PG" as "Parental guidence" when this rated actually means something. it exposes kids to dark themes in order for them to be more mature. if they continue to see everything less graphic to no graphic "very graphic would be a different story". then they wont be able to face their fears.

In the book, Phoebus was a selfish weasel who was engaged to a rich woman so he could get her wealth and status, and he was trying to take advantage of 16 year old Esmeralda's naivete to get her to have sex with him. When Esmeralda was arrested and tried, he didn't give a damn about her and was only worried that she might say something that might expose his duplicity and unfaithfulness to his fiancée. Eventually, Esmeralda's irrational adolescent crush on Phoebus causes her to give herself away when she's hiding from the King's Guards, resulting in her being recaptured and executed. The fact that Disney made Phoebus a good guy just disgusts me, and especially because I remember the filmmakers rationalizing doing that because they thought audiences couldn't accept making Quasimodo the romantic lead because of his looks.

I’m disappointed that you choose to watch the Cartoon instead of the movie with Charles Laughten and Maureen O’Hara. Nothing against the cartoon, but the movie would have been a better choice, IMHO
