I think Kerchak resented Tarzan because in a way he replaced his dead son. A son he couldn't protect. So to see this "replacement" excel and do so well, and get his wife's attention and everything. Every day it was a reminder of what he lost. And only in the end did he realize that instead it's what he gained. A son.

Tarzan's now-iconic yell was invented by Johnny Weissmuller, one of the first actors to portray Tarzan on film, in 1932. In addition to being an olympic swimmer, Johnny was also adept at yodeling, and invented Tarzan's signature jungle cry. (there is some dispute as to who exactly invented it, but the most well-accepted version is that Johnny invented it himself.) Since then, even though it is not specified in the books exactly what Tarzan's victory cry sounds like, pretty much every incarnation of Tarzan is expected to let loose with that Johnny Weissmuller yodeling yell. Ahhh...ah-ah-ah-ahhhh...Ah-ah-ah-ahhhhh!

Even for a Disney movie, Clayton's death was dark as hell. Just the flash of lightning showing him hanging there was certainly a shock, especially as a kid. This and the '97 Hercules are two of my absolute Disney favorites, even though I feel like the two of them are so underrated.

By far the best thing about this movie is the music by Phil Collins. TRIVIA: Brian Blessed (Clayton) did the Tarzan yell because Tony Goldwyn (Tarzan) could not do it. I got to meet Brian Blessed not too long ago and he told me the story and even did the Tarzan yell for everyone.

My theory for Kerchak's frostiness towards Tarzan is because he was venting his grief on him. At the start we saw that he did love his son, and as the head of the family he is supposed to protect the entire group but lost his son, and because he has to stay strong he couldn't mourn like Kala could. Then suddenly Kala brings in a human - and given how he knows what a gunshot was, he knows what humans are like - to in his eyes replace his son. It doesn't help Tarzan's case that he takes all the blame for stuff happening, so he comes off as a risk to the group as well. He was much more willing to forgive it all when Tarzan killed Sabor - effectively avenging both their losses - since he gave him responsibility to protect the group, but Tarzan's curiosity chose humans with guns over that group, and when he went to protect the group from Clayton and his gun Tarzan restrained him, undermining his role as leader.

Prior to this movie, Tarzan was often depicted moving through the jungle by swinging on vines from one tree to the next ... I loved how the animators were able to show him moving through the trees in ways no human actor could possibly do ( at least not without extended physical training). Of course, seventeen years later, that didn't stop the makers of *The Legend Of Tarzan* from trying!

I still say to this day that the scene where Tarzan is tree surfing like he’s on a pair of rollerskates or a skateboard is the greatest animation Disney has ever produced. I first saw it in theatres when I was eight years old and I thought it was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Plus, the scene where Tarzan discovers his real family, that music part still makes me cry. Side note: Kerchak's behaviour is typical of a male silverback gorilla. They are very protective of their band and will defend it with their life if they feel someone is a dangerous threat. But they're typically pacifists and won't hurt anything that is weaker than they are. So him smelling Jane was normal behaviour. She unknowingly did the correct thing by letting him examine her to determine if she's a threat or not. Lastly: "How can you start like this? It's a kid's movie"? Have you forgotten the Lion King? Mufasa's passing? Disney use to be merciless when it came to emotional impacts. They had a lot of dark scenes. Hunchback of Notre Dame, I argue, is the second darkest Disney film. First being the Black Cauldron. May I suggest A Goofy Movie?

    1. Ellie is already sobbing at 2:23 while Viki is already sobbing at 9:48. 2. I really thought Viki was gonna do her signature catchphrase whenever she cries. “Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.” 3. I didn’t even know the leopard had a name till a book mentions it. And, when I first heard bout the name, I thought it was pronounced Saber like saber tooth tiger. Also, I’m still sure that Sabor might be a male. 4. Just so the Homies know, jaguars live in South America in the Amazon jungle. Sabor is a leopard and they’re the only cats that thrive in African jungles. Also, if you notice closely, jaguars have spots wit three dots inside of those spots whereas leopards have spots wit two dots inside of those spots. Also, those black cats in the Emperor’s New Groove were jaguars. Black jaguars but jaguars, nonetheless. Cheetahs? Well, they just have spots. No dots inside of them and they’re much skinnier than leopards as well. Tigers are the cats wit all stripes and they only thrive in Asia. I think Ellie was also the only girl out of y’all that knew a tiger when she saw one, especially in the Hangover. I, also, used to think there were some tigers that lived in Africa when I was a kid. Get used to disappointment though. 5. If you listen closely to Sabor, he roars like not just a leopard but also a lion, a cougar, and a tiger. Cougars don’t roar so if you hear something like a “Wow,” that’s a cougar. Listen to what the other three cats sound like so you’ll understand the difference. 6. I just thought of this but I kinda Sabor lived long enough to fight Clayton since he’s the lesser of two evils. While Sabor kills mainly to eat, Clayton, however, kills for sport and greed. I don’t think Sabor deserved to be on the list of villains cuz he can’t really help but kill anyone. I agree that even animals killing anybody can be evil especially for food but can you really blame them though? Clayton, however, was the real villain though. I always hated him since I first saw him. 7. Moon Sugar swears she was gonna kill Clayton if he killed Kala, yet Moon Sugar subliminally and basically says in other reactions that she don’t believe in violence. However, I remember she said she was willing to do anything to gain revenge for Reggae during John Wick. Plus, if you DID have to chance to kill Clayton, I would using a gun cuz great minds think alike and let’s be real, Clayton, like a lot of other humans, clearly, would not play fair. 8. Kala: Well, I’m going to be her mother now. Moon Sugar: Well, I’m gonna be Ellie and Viki’s mother now. Hahahahahahaha. 9. Now, Kala knows how a full diaper smells. That’s anybody smelling Ellie and Viki’s diapers. Hahahahaha. 10. Those creatures chasing Jane were baboons and they’re just as aggressive and savage as gorillas. They see someone like Jane fucking wit even a kid, they get pissed and jump the would be intruders. Just like gorillas, baboons have a dominant male in charge. Plus, they have a fair share in eating flesh as well. 11. As Viki pointed out, that was the teaset from Beauty And The Beast. 12. In the movie, those elephants knew where piranhas came from. Shit! Even Timothee of France and Canada wanted to know just how those elephants knew that. Yes, piranhas really do come from South America and the Amazon just like jaguars. But, it’s really fucking funny how the elephants turn from very intelligent geniuses from literally one second to complete dumb asses in just the next second. 13. Trash Camp was my favorite song in the movie. I was also told that Phil Colins and NSync did that song as well. Just as good as the song in the movie. 14. The reason Kerchank was such a dick is cuz he lost his son. If you really think bout it, it can really take a toll on you. Just like after Simba lost Mufasa. He became sort of a dick to Kiara but more of a dick to Kovu. All cuz of what Scar did. 15. We all thought for a certain period of time that gorillas were monkeys. They’re related to monkeys but they, themselves, are not monkeys but apes. If a primate has a tail, it’s a monkey. No tail, ape. Baboons and lemurs are monkeys. Gorillas, chimpanzees, mandrills, orangutans, and gibbons are all apes. Rafiki was also referred to by Simba and Timon as a monkey but he’s really a mandrill which, like I said, is an ape. Unfortunately, lots of people are still referring to every primate as a monkey, pretty much cuz either don’t know the difference between monkeys and apes or they did know for quite sometime but they eventually just forgot the difference. 16. I also saw only one red elephant in Planet Earth, believe it or not. Idk why it was red. It just was as far as I’m concerned. 17. Perhaps, Kerchank might not have been an ass towards Dianne Fossey. 18. Nobody discovered gorillas till the 1800’s. Then, word got around and unfortunately, poachers just like Clayton and his crew took many gorillas away from the Congo to use as entertainment in zoos or killed them for sport and even had some of those gorillas stuffed and used as trophies. 19. Last I checked, there are over 110,000 gorillas left in the wild but that number seems to be falling even as we speak.

I was casted for Tarzan, after I played Quazimodo in Hunchback of notre dame, the first time I’ve ever seen people weep in the seats when the character died, but there was a twist. And I don’t brag myself up, but after I sang there was a ten second silence, then a roar of clapping and then I knew from the first night even the cast said I played it well, and was apart of the first theatre company to put on Mary popping, Disney didn’t own it then and was on public domain. It was packed in the theatre. Never saw that massive theatre ever full up to the Gods. I miss acting, might go back as a writer, I’m a film producer and editor anyway, Tarzan and fame where I was casted as nick. I had to turn down parts because I started to have parts in films. And university as well. I’m so glad I came out of it when I did.

Hello, Pat Bateman I'm glad you've enjoyed Phil Collins. Well, I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. If you pay attention, you can listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion". In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. "In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting (if I'm not wrong, you can hear it in an old movie called "AMERICAN PSYCHO". Hilarious film. You should see that one! 😅). Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like "In the Air Tonight" and "Against All Odds". But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. If I had to pick one I guess I'd go with "Sussudio", a great, great song, a personal favorite. Ladies (any of you)...would you like to see my apartment?? I work on Wall Street, on Pierce & Pierce. Do you know that?

Man, I remember seeing the trailers for this movie as a little kid, where they showed the beginning part where the gorilla finds baby Tarzan. My little brother was born in 1999, and my mom would play this movie for him so many times, I was nauseated of it.. I haven't watched this in probably 20-ish years, and I completely forgot about those opening scenes with Tarzan's parents.

My favorite Disney movie, only Treasure Planet ever really comes close. This was one of the few movies we could afford to watch in theatres when it came out in Puerto Rico and the soundtrack and movie is something that my mother and I bonded over deeply. She used to sing You'll be in my Heart to me constantly and it is by far the easiest way to squeeze a tear out of me to this very day.

You really need to watch the Legend of Tarzan 2016, Alexander Skarsgård plays the most convincing Tarzan since Johnny Westmuller. He also discovers that his real name is John Clayton, Earl of Greystoke Manor. By the standards of the time, he was a multimillionaire and owned about a bazillion acres of farmland and forest. Jane Porter, becomes Jane Clayton, Lady of Greystoke. Her impact on English society is equivalent to the Hiroshima bomb! She could be a lady to her fingertips one moment and then, go climbing trees with the kids in the next! She treats the entire staff of Greystoke as her extended family, unsurprisingly, they fell in love with her within one day. John Clayton's response to anybody trying to hurt those he considers family can be summed up in the word: Silverback!
