How good are Australian cars. The little time we spent in the car game is such a shame but look at the beauty's that we produced.

Manta was the entry level car below clubsport. I had a vs manta wagon which was one of 26 made. 203 sedans were produced for vs series making a total of 229 made. That’s pretty rare

I loved the 5l v8s my 1.6 corolla sx could smoke them it was really funny watching rich hsv owners get upset that a cheap corolla was a touch faster than them.

​@@airfreshna140 year old here. Owned a VS ecotec, exhaust etc, mates had 5 litres...this is around 99-01. Loved the 5 litre. Few years later I picked up a FWD AE88 with a 4AGZE Supercharged 1.6 litre...wolf 3D, LSD etc....used to dust the ol 5 litres lol. That Corolla was the absolute business. I beat on it and it never failed. Amazing little weapon.

The Manta was the Belmont of HSV. I had the VS Clubby with the same donk as a family car back then, the kids loved it, as did I. Nice to see them getting a run on KZread. 👍

Man those 5L sound awesome 👌 I've got a VR ute Maloo replica with an L67 swap running higher boost and T5 5sp manual, but I'd rather a slower stock 5L just for the sound alone lol but those engines are just so damn expensive these days!

I remember the VS SS being a big deal back then. We used to think 185-195kw was some serious power, well it kind of was at the time. Wasn't till early 2000s power outputs went through the roof. Nonetheless the 90s era was an exciting time for innovation

And 30 years before that we EH Holdens with a 179 ci six, three on the tree, drum brakes and a bench seat and no seat belts!

_Manta was entry level HSV, below Clubsport and the standard SS 5.0 we’re around 168kw(?) so 185kw (185i)was a bonus. Back in the day there was more for HSV to offer over the standard Holden but as we know in the last years the SS came with all the goodies(LS3) so HSV’s clear lines were a little more blurred_

Never seen a Holden like that ever but as soon as I noticed it had the old Holden 5 litre inside (perfecto!)

was selling a white VR clubsport on behalf of a gentleman in perth, it was a tough sell, although i have my masters in marketing, the right contacts ect, it was such a hard sell, people dont give the VR the love they deserve! the guy ghosted me for months so no sale went through then he was selling it for himself so i just left it alone, but long story short people truly dont give the car the love they deserve.

My dad ordered a Manta VT back in the day. The day he was to pick it up, the dealership let a woman test drive it because she was going to buy one too and she reversed it straight into the pole outside the dealership and wrote the car off.

The hsv VT was actually 195kw as the used the roller cam & sequential injection. In standard form Up from 165kw to 179kw 🤔👍

I guess by vt 185kw had been around for nearly 10 years and hsv and buyers of the product were starting to expect abit more from hsv after the same old motor for 10 years

Absolutely agree with you bro.. I have never been in a hybrid or ev.. I guess people will say don't knock it till you try it. But especially Tesla's.. you take a look inside and it bare as. Just seats and a massive computer screen and a cut in half steering wheel. Not my vibe

I didn't think I'd ever understand the hybrid thing, always been a V8 or turbo guy, but recently bought a GWS204 Crown Hybrid, and... yeah, I kinda get it now. They can be fun, but I'll admit, there's a lot less soul there compared to my old G6E.

I have a vg Maloo wrapped up hiding away in a shed. Can’t wait to bring her out some day soon

You just can’t beat these discontinued rare old school cars, love them inside and out and wouldn’t swap if for a Lambo or rrari. And yeah you’re exactly right, it is lame !

I always wondered if the Manta nameplate was borrowed from the GM Opel brand. As an Opel manta was a performance car, they even made a movie in Germany about it with Til Schweiger who was in Driven with Sly and Inglorious bastards called Manta Manta

HSV manta was practically a hotted up better ss the manta when in production as you can tell with the body kit it has on it

i had a vs manta sedan same color build number 69, 5 litre 5 speed don't have it any more but have plenty of pictures I also had the Gray book from hsv with who built the car and inspected and signed it of after it was built which I past on to the next owner

You're exactly right, cars in this country now are shite. I wish Ford and Holden were still making 'aussie' cars. I drive a BA Falcon and I wont be getting rid of it for all the tea in China

Young people have a different perspective of fast given the advances in engines. 8 seconds was not slow for the time, but it’s one of the reasons that made the Subaru WRX such a success in this era. For roughly the same price you could put down a 6 and maybe just under 5 seconds in the STI… but you couldn’t smoke up the rears while eating a Big Mac.

@@RossReviewsau The development advancement curve is less of a curve, more of a cliff face. Fast in '94 is trumped by Nanna's a-b shopping trolley these days - mad! My lad's P-Plate approved buzz-box would blow one of these VR/VS V8s doors off, point to point - just without any of the grins/soul!! 🙂

Gts /gts r was standard with the 215i, was an option on grange and senator only.

Vs commodore also had the SLR5000.

Correct but not as good as the Torana and was discontinued dew to lack of sales so that makes them very rare now

Sounds spicy as. What beautiful car and special grill. 1 negative it was disappointing the manta never got the fog lights.

Love the video on the manta you hardly hear anything about them My dad used to have build number 15 original one owner car but sadly he sold it before Holden close for next to nothing
