The Houston Marathon RACE RECAP: Sub 3 Attempt

Спорт

I ran the 2024 Houston Marathon with a goal of breaking 3 hours in the marathon. This is the race recap of that video. There is the final episode of BREAKING 3: I will list the links to those other videos here.
Breaking 3 ep1: • BREAKING 3: The Sub 3 ...
Breaking 3 ep2: • SUB 3 hour marathon: H...
Breaking 3 ep3: • Sub 3 Hour Marathon: 5...
Breaking 3 ep 4: • How much speed for a S...
Breaking 3 ep 5: • Tune-Up Races: 10k and...
Also, the footage I pulled from ‪@kofuzi‬ on the course was his own footage that he shot and published in his recap video: It is excellent and the link is below:
Kofuzi's Houston Half Marathon Recap: • Houston Half Marathon ...
Chapters:
00:00 - Marathon Footage
00:39 - Intro
01:20 - Kofuzi Shake Out Run
03:59 - Carb Loading
05:36 - Race Morning
06:42 - Corral Drama
08:15 - Mile 1 - 12
12:40 - Mile 13 "The Hill"
14:19 - Mile 13.1-21
18:12 - Midlife Wanker
20:00 - The last 5k
20:49 - Big Surprise at 26
27:07 - Post Race Thoughts
In this video I talk about the Kofuzi shake out run, in which my wife tagged along. We cover carb loading, race day kit, race day nutrition, some corral drama, then the mile by mile splits, what I was thinking, how I was feeling. There were a couple of big surprises on the course along with so many other smaller and equally joyous surprises that it went down as one of the best days of my life. I hope you enjoy it.

This made my TM warmup and cooldown fly by! It’s too funny and entertaining to have watched it during the 400s/800s sandwiched between😅 The stuff about YOURWIFE is adorable. You were absolutely right, of course, that you have enough presence in the running world to have gotten plenty of recognition and shoutouts. What a thrill to have Kofuzi cheering you on to the finish line, and also the elusive, beloved steevie76 shouting his heart out for you (SOMEday we’re going to track him down in person😂) Funny thing about all the YOURWIFE bits is that MYHUSBAND (who serves as my Run Caddie quite often) is the opposite, despite my not having a running channel whatsoever, let alone thousands of followers like you.

I also want to say thank you for not blocking other runners for content. I respect that. I feel the races lately have gotten kind of bad with people running with their phones out. I almost tripped over a few at the start last sunday :/

Awesome. Looking forward to Season 2, Electric Boogaloo 😂. One comment, from my over 30 marathons of experience I have concluded that for me, carb loading is not helpful and in fact counterproductive. I now follow a low carb diet to train my body to burn more fat, then run the marathon mostly drinking water with a few Gatorades and one or two gels. You might want to try this in the future as it completely removes that bloated, heavy feeling that many get from eating a high carb diet.

Somehow I missed you at the finish. I was primed to give you the correct ’Wanker’ pronunciation, but anyway, perhaps I was distracted by the CPR and proposal happening at the same time. Regarding pacing. Have you considered an even paced strategy? I aim for that (especially on flat courses) as I hate the idea of leaving 2 mins or so on the table in the first half, and then trying to get a faster pace out of myself in the last part to make it up. I’m always trying to get to 21 on pace, and then it’s up to me. Being at 21 and a couple of minutes down is a tough spot in a tough spot. Just a thought. Great run! 👏👏

Would've loved the proper Wanka! shout out. I think for the next one I want to run a little closer to even pacing throughout. If I give up time, that means I have to run in front of goal marathon pace to get it back. And what if that is the thing burning too many matches? worth exploring

Its how my brain works. Been on both ends of it, but it felt a lot better when hanging on meant the prize was in front you (but just out of reach), rather than being behind and trying to pick it up in order to maybe catch a glimpse of it again. Brains. Funny things. Especially when on the edge.@@MidLifeRunner

Pace groups are often organized to target qualifying times for the Boston marathon. 3:05 happens to be the qualifying time for the men’s 35-39 age group, which is a common age for runners attempting a BQ.
