The Housemartins always remind me of my last year at school. I listened to their records all the time while studying. It was the last year of innocence, before life started kicking me around for good. They're a precious happy memory, although listening to their songs now always brings tears.

It's interesting (not really but for the purposes of my comment 😬) how different generations comprehend bands/songs. I first heard The Housemartins in the summer of 96 when Beautiful South were on the go. Well not FIRST heard them but when someone put a name to them. We were on our break from school in the afternoon for a beer for the p.e. teachers. And CW we'll refer to her as, dropped them for a few of us in my mates bedroom. This sounds like a set up punchline, I SWEAR it isn't...Happy Hour was playing. I'm just saying we got about an hour for lunch. And 2 hours for the p.e. teachers 🤷🏻♂️

Well to be fair, we had sh1++y music back then too. Remember Janet Jackson? Poison? Paula Abdul? Bon Jovi? Chicago? Richard Marx? Vanilla Ice? Milli Vanilli? There were just as many idiots with bad taste suckered into corporate garbage music back then. It was the smart cool kids that listened to bands like The Housemartins. Just like Paul says, "it's sheep we're up against."

I've got a little Hull story for you YTF's, as a young boy I used to get up at 6am every Saturday to pick up Roy of the Rovers & Tiger from my local Newsagents on Greenwood Avenue in Hull. I remember watchin' one of The Housemartins early interviews before they released 'Happy Hour' was either 'Sheep' or 'Me & The Farmer' on Wackaday or The Wide Awake Club!!
