Both are modernized adaptations or derivatives of older mythologies (though jttw is considerably younger than the odyssey, it draws on preexisting mythology that stretches back centuries)

The animatic is for a show called Lego Monkie Kid and takes place in a pre-canon AU, when Wukong has the Cursed Circlet (a torture device that activates when someone uses a specific chant) so Wukong has to obey the jade Emperor's commands or be tortured. The Jade Emperor has just presented Wukong with a vision of MK (the main character of Lego Monkie Kid) in the future (during canon) and then told Wukong to kill the baby MK. Wukong is begging the Jade Emperor for any option that doesn't involve child murder.

​@@Zela_Nightthis make it even more heartbreaking. 😢 I thought they just drew Wukong with the fillet/crown because he wears it most of the time back then. But do we know for sure the Jade Emperor knows the chant for Wukongs fillet/crown? I thought it was only Chin Yun, Tripitaka and the Budah.
