    gut response to "which TV show would you like to live in?" : My Little Pony : Friendship is Magic - magic is real, love is a physical force with healing powers, unicorns, pegasii, and dragons all exist, and poverty, starvation, and crime are fictional. characters face real problems, but nothing life-ruining or soul-crushing, and the annual giant catastrophe is solved by 6 superheros. Plus, the environment and all its animals and plants are a group project (e.g. pegasii control the weather), so everyone is motivated to at least tolerate everyone else. also, anyone born there has a 1-in-3 chance of being able to fly under their own power.

    Have they seen "Law & Order"? The whole series was about how much horror there was in the world and that even when people go to jail, it doesn't make the pain go away -- if they went to jail, which they didn't always. Do you really want to be in a universe, where every day starts with a serial killer or a child molester or body being found wedged in the stairwell of an elementary school, found by the morning class trying to get to homeroom? Then those recurring characters are there, because justice wasn't served, and they were able to keep him behind bars. "Homicide: Life on the Streets" was very dark and gritty (and one of the best crime shows ever), but it was even safer than the "Law & Order" verse. They really dropped the ball on this.

    I agree but imagine living in a universe where society itself is fucked. I mean, in ATLA, there is a freaking war happening and in Legend of Korra, there is a big divide between benders and non-benders. And then, Spirits become a thing. In my opinion, the thing that shows this the most is the fact that the most stable element’s (Earth) benders have the most unstable kingdom ever. The Earth Kingdom has always had it’s own special problems... 😒 (sigh)

    As my mom binges SVU, I can confirm not all crimes are solved entirely; one episode had a male kid tricked from birth to be a girl, (it's complicated) and she became a he again later, then he/his brother killed the man responsible for the experience, but since their DNA was so similar there was no way to identify who killed the man. Thus, instead of bringing further trauma to the twins, a murderer was let away scotch-free: not exactly a clean crime being solved every episode.

  • @Ralndrath

    @Ralndrath

    8 жыл бұрын

    That thing about the boy being tricked into a girl was actually based on real life, it also ended with 'her' becoming a he, again. It didn't end with them murdering the psychologist. I think he got hit with a malpractice suit. But ended years later with the guy committing suicide. The psychologist from what I remember was a New Zealander. There's a documentary on it, but its been years since I've seen it, so hard to remember it.

  • @KeiMontague

    Fuckin' thank you. As an avid SVU watcher, there are many cases unsolved, solved then undone, or just left ambiguously assumed. One of their first examples shown was of Robin Williams, the plot of whose episode has him -- as the bad guy -- commit crimes directly against the police force, and he gets off either scot-free or dies trying to do so (see above: ambiguously assumed). But justice is definitely not served on at least that episode, much less multiple others.

    There are actually two interpretations for the snowball scene at the end of St. Elsewhere. They've found connections between shows like Angel and movies like Alien, and even put Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Red Dwarf in the same universe. It's crazy.

    I know this is old, but I feel the need to address the whole St. Elsewhere/Tommy Westphall universe thing. The better explanation is that Tommy put characters from existing TV shows INTO his St. Elsewhere universe, just like he put his father and grandfather into roles. When the three doctors visit Cheers at the end of an episode, it's just within his imagination that they visit the bar from a TV show. Within the Cheers (and Frasier) continuity, there's no corresponding crossover so Carla did not server Drs. Auschlander, Wetphall, and Craig. This would also apply to St. Elsewhere supporting character Warren Coolidge who was originally on Paltrow's previous series The White Shadow. The White Shadow is simply a TV show that Tommy pulled a character from to be an orderly at St. Elegius.

    Michel is right about living in a sitcom world but the wrong show creator. I'd choose Bill Lawrence who made Scrubs and Cougar Town. In that world you make friends easier because you know they'll have quirks and problems similar to yours that complement each other and the concept of the bromance is a greater love then marriage. Only downside is running into a woman who looks like Christa Miller because then you'd rather be in a lions den then be even 5 feet of whoever that woman is.

    I'd probably fit in the show "Newhart" as Bob. People around me being whimsical and irrational and I'd just confirm in a deadpan calm manner what they just said, subtly trying to tell them that they make no sense. And they still wouldn't get it. My God, if that's where I think I would fit then I have to do some soul searching because I don't know how Bob (as a character) put up with that stuff for all those seasons. Any normal man would start to shoot randomly from a church tower if they'd have Bob's life and those people surrounding him. The loneliness of being the only sane person in that village; it's terrifying.

    Nieghorn Yeah, it was the last episode and at the end it turned out Bob Newhart dreamt all of the series. Not even in one whole night, it was still dark when he woke up his wife to tell her about the dream. It was a cop out bullshit ending to the series which upset fans. Though to the writers' credit it was a bit difficult to end. How would it have happened? Bob and his wife were doing good economically both from the inn and from Bob's writing, all other characters seemed firmly planted in the village, a tight little community. How do you end it? A bomb wipes them all off? Economic collapse or environmental catastrophe forces everyone out of the village and they start new lives independent of each other? It seemed good at the time to just say "hey, all whacky things were Bob's dreams".

    +MiketheCabbie I think you're right about her losing weight, but if she doesn't lose any more she'll stay healthy. She has a small frame and short hair emphasizes her jawline which makes the loss more noticeable. Personally I really like her new haircut, but mostly her hair looks good because it looks healthy. So I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. If she loses more weight and her hair gets dull she'll need to work on her eating habits but she's an adult and I'm sure she's on top of it.

    Batman The Animated Series. I would make Batman train me to be a ninja like him. I would be able to convince him to do so, because I'd know his real name, and pretty much anyone that finds out his true identity either becomes part of the team or is a super villain. Yeah there'd be a chance Joker captures me and tortures me until I'm driven completely insane, but then I'd be with the Joker, and that's cool too. Plus Instant connection to the DC universe. I'd hang out with the justice league. I'd hit on Raven. It'd be awesome.

    +Deebo Molina Well as an interdimensional traveller no one can say anything of your past. You could try and pull an Orphan if you're too old to be a protégée, but seeing as Batman is a master detective it seems you'd only be setting yourself up as a new villain. He'd never kill you and you'd get to break out of Arkham with all of his usual villains a bunch of times, though. Would you join the universe of the hero you love, knowing you would definitely be a villain? Would you continually pull hijinks in Gotham just to get his attention, knowing you could never be one of his trusted companions, but wanting to see him all the same, the reason you came to this universe? ...could actually make a pretty sweet AU Joker origin. Or like OP said, a Joker protégée origin.
