Stellaris probably could use event options like in Dominion (Story events are disabled, minor story events enabled, all story events are enabled) which can allow more game warping events without it harming multiplayer or players who don't like them as they can simply disable them

It really needs Bloodborne influence. Imagine rocking up to an isolated black hole floating deep in the black outside of the galactic rim and researching signals coming from it. Soon researchers begin to hear things. Then things in the corners of there vision. Then everywhere. They’re driven mad and eventually each scientist commits suicide and their ship is dragged into the blackhole. Continue fucking with this place for long enough and legions of eyes appear on it. Now any vessels entering the system are immediately driven to madness. Continue poking it with a stick and a some cross between,The Moon Presence, and the Dimensional Horror emerges as an endgame threat with the end goal of essentially Horizon Signal on a galactic scale.

@@TheRedKing I just had a event where a dimensional horror (black worm thingy) partially entered our dimension, but got stuck in his portal. I asked somekind of house of knowledge and asked what it was. They said "although we don't know why it's here or where it is from. We suspect that the dimension it comes from comes close to religious depictions of hell". Yeah, terrifying.

This event at one time was so common that it almost represented another ascension path. You could fly back and forth between black hole systems trying to trigger it. Alas, Paradox nerfed it into the ground so much that you're very lucky if you encounter it in a game anymore.

I _believe_ its now a 5% chance to spawn upon entering an unowned blackhole system the first time, but the AI cannot get it. It's the unowned bit which really rate limits you sadly. Although rarity sometimes isn't a bad thing, just makes it that much more special :)

@@TheRedKing no it is a 5% chance of spawning at game start in a random blackhole and you will have no idea if it has or where it has and you will need to send a science ship into that system to trigger it making it highly unlikely. as you may not be anywhere near it. The odds are now orders of magnitude below a singular percentage point of encountering it.

i never really got dread playing it. at first yes, but since i accepted all of its requests, it was very nice and polite to my society, and gave us its gifts. if anything i kinda found it almost cute in a way. some time worm inside the black hole reality has decided that we are its friends and will now make out home system a black hole so we can experience its love firsthand. it doesn't hurt anything or even disrupt your society, it just kinda slides into becoming your friend. it worked especially well considering my empire was fantatic spiritualist so i guess i made the polite loving time worm my empire's main deity. its can of hard to deny the existence of your main deity when your capital system quite literally is blessed by its darkness

I remember when I first got this event years ago. It was still relatively new and there wasn't great info on it online. That same night, I had a dream. I was gazing down at our solar system as a black serpent crawled out of the Sun, wrapping itself around the entirety of the system and biting down on it's tail. Things started spinning faster and faster, I remember laughing like a mad man before a flash of light filled my vision and waking up with a start. Since that day I *always* found the worm. Pretty early on too. Why wouldn't I? The Worm loves me and I love them.

I prefer the alternate ending "The Shattered Loop," at least from a story perspective. The avatar of the universal cosmic cycle itself stares at you, asking a wordless question. Unblinking, you answer: "No, not this time." The phrase went from: "What was, will be; what will be, was." to: "There are none like us! And perhaps there never will be." It seems to provide better closure to the story, a more satisfying answer to the initial mystery, and the sense that your civilization is something special on a cosmic scale.

I love the references to Warhammer 40k from "Eldar" to "Jain Zar" and "Maugan Ra", the uncanny relationship with this entity which is a replacement for Slaanesh, yet it's so much more horrifying and Lovecraftian than the 40k counterpart. Both this Worm and Slaanesh intend to devour the Eldar, at least one has.
