My god!! I stumble upon this video and my brain suddenly remembers how much I loved this song and video! Man... I feel so nostalgic now.... I had my life ahead of me and thought turning 50 was so far... I still feel so young inside, and have still so much to live, but at the same time, I feel like an alien in the current era at times. Music sucks so much now, it's crazy.

Loved the 80s, the music, the feelings about all that was part of that era and just great memories and feelings. I just turned 57 and still have that feeling through music and movies. What an incredible time it was to be a teen and young adult. The best era in music and entertainment in general.

One of those 80's gems that was never really overplayed on the radio back then or now - intertwined with my soul, so on the rare occasion I hear it again, it seems to hit like a ton of bricks of awesomeness.

Mr. Chip Yeah. See, the whole "what is and what isn't" rock thing sort of doesn't work for me at all. I never much paid attentions to genres. I like the Beatles, I like Motown, I like Mötörhead, I like Drowning Pool, I like the Carpenters. If it makes you groove, it's rock and roll to me. : )

haha yeah i get what your saying. I guess when i hear the term rock i think metallica, i think journey, i think led zeppelin, i think foo fighters etc, rock can be different for each generation. But today they call mumford and sons rock, or Lorde charts on the rock charts. I just dont get it. When i think of hooters, or flock of seagulls, or duran duran i guess i just think of it as 80s pop/new wave, not really rock

  • @BunneRabb

Mr. Chip The first thing you have to remember is that rock and roll only got huge because it was new to white people, who had money, and they paid for it because they heard it on the radio. Remember when radio mattered? All the genres, all the sub-genres and "I only listen to post ska musebilly, thrashcore polka" hipsters overlook two things. A - It's all allegiance based marketing and B, nobody is paying for it anymore so like all things in America that don't move money around, it's going to turn into a hobby. Each hobbyist with their little flag of uniqueness. The only people making money off of music now are rappers, country artists and Disney. Usually at the same time.

The more I see great bands like this, the more I want to play my bass guitar. I was 8 when this came out. Life wasn’t perfect, but it was better than now. If I had an opportunity to be transported back to the 80’s, I would STAY and never return to 2023. Tablets and (small) cellphones weren’t out there. I can ride bikes and skateboards with my friends and come home as soon as the street light turns on.

As I recall, the Hooters debut album was independently released and sold about 150,000 copies in the greater Delaware Valley area. That lead to, I believe, Columbia records signing them. Their manager was Steve Mountain, who owned the three Cabaret night clubs in greater Philly. They were a great act, but they had business muscle behind them.

Fun and weird fact. The girl and boy @ 2:42 are the consession stand couple from the "And We Danced" video. In my 1980's brain this was their first date and they would be in their 50's now like me with a bunch of kids.

It’s so 80s. Hooters were from Philly so they had allot of rotation on our local stations… Eric also wrote one of us for Joan Osborne and Rob wrote time after time with Cindy Lauper. These guys are songwriting gold

They were my first concert. I was in the 7th grade. My second was Rush and third was Metallica, back before it was cool to like Metallica. Lol. The Hooters got me hooked on live music. And Rush got me hooked on, well, seeing Rush live every chance I got. I got a lot of them. I stopped counting at my 13th Rush gig. The Hooters were great live. And so is Metallica, 7 times for them. But, there was something magical when Rush took the stage. And I don't just mean Neil's insane drum solos. It was the amount and quality of music that was coming from only three men. Granted, those three were virtuosos. But, the Hooters will always have a special place for me. I smile every time I think back on that first concert, with The Outfield opening for them. Great show!

Summer 1986. All these bands would have lasted to the early 1990s if the music industry did not promote the bottom crawlers.

+dampen damp Yeah really ! This was great music, then all of a sudden in 1987 I noticed that black zulu nation crap started creeping in. It was not bad AT FIRST, like Bust a Move and such.... However it got bad real bad real fast and turned into Hip Hop, and RAP. Both evil and from the black liberation zulu nation who are racists against anyone who is not black. And the thing that gets me the most. RAP and Hip Hop never end ! I mean music used to change every decade. This stuff just keeps polluting the world. Its been almost 30 years now. Enough !!!

+HHH100 Even in 1986 it was sheer idiocy to think the Soviet Union was the enemy that needed to be contained and defeated.

+dampen damp I'm only 31 so I was barely out of diapers at that time, but it looks bizarre going back and seeing how everyone was still so worried about the Soviets in the 80s, when our society was beginning a steady decay from within. The Soviets had nothing on the instigators within our own society today.
