Between you playing it and its previous owner, that guitar has lived a charmed life! *INCREDIBLE* playing in this video.
Wtf dude! How can you be this graceful and full of chaos at the same time! You are literally one of the best in the world right now!

That guitar had no idea it could sound so good when it was born…

As we say in Spain (it hasn't aged well, I know. But...). It's not the bow: it's the Indian.

I dunno, Chris is obviously a talented guy but ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ also sounded pretty good too…

Is there something he does to affect the way the string vibrates after it's plucked? Obviously not. The guitar sounds the way it sounds, and another guitar won't sound the same as this one just because the same player is using it. The way a string vibrates has to do with how it's plucked and the design of the thing plucking it. If he showed you how he plucks and you used the same pick, you could pluck a string just like him with a little practice. Honestly, guitar players make way too much of the "tone-is-in-the-fingers" thing. It's not magic. It's just the way he developed his style over the years. WHEN he plucks in whatever way is a different thing. That's dynamic phrasing. That can also be mimicked with practice, but why do that? I'm going to be a little critical of Chris. First, Chris is the most well-spoken guitarist I know of. The way he words sentences is indicative of a very good education. I enjoy his playing a lot, but some of the precious slides and melodies in the higher registers get a bit tiresome for me. Not that he should change anything about his playing or compositional style, but it's perhaps a bit sentimental for a Thelonious Monk/Scott Henderson fan. The tonal characteristics of this guitar come from how all the components combine to damp various freq's. The old wood and the worn off FB finish are part of that, as are the relatively week A2 or A3 pickup poles used back then. It definitely did not sound the same when it was born.
This leaves me stunned. The rich pallet of sounds from this old girl; plus the masterful playing by Chris. A beautiful experience just watching and listening. BRAVO!
Pretty sure that guitar has been waiting for that moment it's entire life and forgot it was ever once a tree.
There were times in that second jam I thought Chris was going to break out into 'Babe I'm Gonna leave You'. My god...those were some of the best jams I've heard him do...ever! That looked like some inspired playing if I've ever seen it!
Dude! You make that sing!
A growly guitar in the hands of a gnarly and outstanding player. Absolute killer tone!!!! 🤘🎸
Good lord … the guitar is enough to swallow. But I do hereby proclaim Chris the greatest guitar player of his generation. Stunning top to bottom.
Chris you are just an amazing guitarist. One of the best alive today! Keep doing what you’re doing!
I need a smoke after that. Problem is, I don't smoke. What a sound is the least I can say! WOW!
Nice tone!
That's some tasty playing !
A Nocaster is literally the 1st electric guitar I ever saw. My uncle had it delivered by Leo during the legal limbo period. I didn't start playing for a few years, but always looked forward to visits. He let me play it every time I visited. Always knew it was unusual, but really freaked out when the prices shot over $100k. Sadly, he died years ago & left it to his grandson(he never gotten past the 3 chords a cloud of dust). After an accident, he was paralyzed & the guitar was never played again. I gave up trying to get it from them.

For me that's the best tone I've heard from you.
Chris Buck, Friday Fret Works : the album. Please ! I’d buy it ! I bet it would be a smash.
That is one of the most beautiful guitars Ive ever seen a legend guitar that sounds much younger than its 70 years played by a master.
6:10 coolest piece you've ever played. WOW !!!
That opening jam might just be the best one you've done!! Tasty AF!
God Damn Chris, fucking KILLER Intro Jam dude. Gonna have to transcribe and play along with that one 🤘🏼🤘🏼 Hell yeah man
That intro was devastating

If you mean in a: “dammmnnnn, I wish I could play like THAT” devastating kind of way, than you are correct good sir.
I have to say you have become my favorite guitarist, such nuance, soul and grit, so tasteful. Such a gift (plus so much hard work) I’ve been playing for 40+ years and you blow me away dude. Love it, cheers man.
Never mind the guitar - the playing is inspirational. I have been lamenting the passing of Tom Verlaine, but it is good to know there is another great guitarist still very much alive.
Between the Nocaater and a 50s Les Paul it's all there. Makes me wonder what guitar manufacturers have been doing since. Thanks Chris as usual top notch.

Yamaha Revstar with P90s sounds pretty epic , not a Fender, not a Gibson… just another very good guitar.
Damn kid, you can play.
Well, ya certainly a dream guitar. Helps to be able to make it talk as you did. Great video.
What The F.. riday Fretworks this was! Great upload CB!
Never mind the nocaster, I've come back to listen to your playing...I'm blown away....love it!
Price tag is hanging on for dear life. Beautiful demonstration of how dynamic teles can be.
Good Lord, your playing is spectacular.
Holy crap! Once owned by Carl Perkins? Freaking wow! Great video and as usual, great playing, Chris!
Notice the little piano in the background. You learning to play🤣🤣
That last jam...
I just listened to the first 20 seconds and all I could think was that the person playing the Nocaster was very, very talented and the Nocaster was beyond brilliant. Wow..beautiful and I've heard a lot in 66+ years.
OMG does that sound incredible!
My favorite opening jam so far. Brilliant! Could listen all day.
Great video review and history of this legend. Your intro jam was so tasty. Please work that into a full song with the band.
Masterful talented guitar player
That is the best I have ever heard you sound. Too bad that guitar isn't yours.
The king, wielding Excalibur.
Joyous episode from start to finish!
Excellent.
Wow. Wonderful playing
SUCH tasteful playing!
Amazing
Awesome Chris ...many thanks
I love your ability to use dynamics. From subtle to howling wildness. Amazing.
Utterly brilliant!
I'm an old man, 66, & not a very good guitarist (never really put in the time or effort). I love music & the guitars that music is made with so even though I'm not much of a guitarist I still know a thing or two just from being around it for so long. With that said I really appreciate you, your channel, your content & have to say, I have really seen you grow not only in your ability to play but your style as well. Keep up the good work & thank you again for the all the great content.
Amazing playing.
Wow Chris, jaw dropping playing
Holy! Amazing!
What is most compelling to me and keeps me coming back here time and again, is your story telling both about the guitar but even more so ón the guitar. That to me really sets your playing apart, how you tell your story through it. We are so spoilt to have you.
That intro though gawd damn 🤌
You weren’t wrong about this being the holy grail. That intro jam was spectacular
Wow, what a guitar. Phil Palmer and Carl Perkins too, serious history right there!
This was “off the fucking chain” as they say in the West Country. Unbelievable playing.
That opening jam is the best I've ever heard Chris play. Just amazing. Then fingerpicked flamenco stuff? Damn, bro.
blew my mind, CB, geez!
Hard to find someone who plays with the feeling you do, this guitar in your hands rises to the sky
Awesome video, and absolutely love the music you make. Cheers!
The sound and the tone of that guitar, and the way you play it, it's the closest thing to an epiphany I have ever experienced.
I've been listening and watching for years and, in all that time, this intro jam is the best I've heard you play. Just Wow.
One of the few reason to start up youtube: Friday Fretworks!
Cheers Chris, loving the jams this week, extra spicy. Not usually too bothered about grail collector guitars but that one's pretty darned special.
Holy grail of jams!
The intro jam was incredible, and the guitar sounds great too. Wow!
That was a different type of playing. That was awesome!
0:10 man, what a gift these jams always are.

Killer groove on the play out dude
I've never played a real one, just custom shop models, but my impression is that they're one of the best electrics ever made. The volume and tone controls work magic. Just breathtaking IMHO.
I tuned in because I wanted to find out how magic the Nocaster was. Problem was, Chris Buck was playing it. I quickly got absorbed in the magic of his playing and forgot about the Nocaster. I honestly believe Chris Buck could create mesmerising music from a broom handle and baling wire. I cannot think of a single guitar player today who gives me so much pleasure listening to - and gives me so much inspiration and despair, in equal amounts - as Chris Buck. Thanks, mate. Now, about that Nocaster.....
I'm so glad I found you on youtube. You are a spectacular player. I totally enjoy listening to you.
That outro solo - wow!
Beautiful guitar and exceptional playing. Love your hybrid picking.
More impressive than that incredible guitar is your talent.
That introductory jam may have been a jam to you but it sounded like a masterpiece to me!
Fantastic playing and incredible sound!!!! Keep up the great work 🎸
De los mejores guitarristas jóvenes del momento . Lo que hace con la mano derecha es brutal , ese cambio inmediato de pua y dedos le da una dinámica que es bestial. Da igual la guitarra que toque , este tipo haría sonar la escoba
Thassit Chris! play it like ya stole it boiiii! 👍🇦🇺

What a Master you are
...you really make that Tele scream Brother:)
thank you, Chris, for playing such a long bit as solo guitar, and clean, so we could really hear what this special instrument sounds like! You bring out its voice like few could.
Chris, great playing and I'm glad you pointed out the myth of the "lawsuit." Perhaps legal action would have been the next step by Gretsch had Fender refused the request to stop using the name, but a lawsuit never happened. Thanks!
It's interesting to see how many right hand techniques you mix while playing.
Good grief, man! You absolutely slayed w that axe. Unbelievable playing good sir. A truly rare talent, glad I got to experience.
Prodigy inspired outro jam? Love it
That was some the best playing I’ve heard from Buck. And yea I’m not taking anything away from anything else he’s done saying that.
Wow! Enough said.
That intro was insane 🥴
that guitar is surely fantastic..but your playing...God!!...each one of the bits was just wonderful!...u should keep the guitar...you give it what it desetves..
That jam was inspirational
Fabulous playing as ever… glorious tones
Wauv..... You are a good guitar player 🤘😁 Sound really good
Absolutely brilliant
Terrific sounds and playing !
I was hoping Carl would appear here and be like, “that’s my guitar!” Aww shucks, what a let down. What’s not a let down? This insanely gorgeous example of a Nocaster being played by Chris!
Sounds like that control plate has been rewired at some point - originally the tome pot wasn't a tone pot, but a blender - the forward position on the switch would've given the neck pickup with the top rolled off for a 'dark 'sound, the centre position brought in the blend pot for both pickups, and the back position was the bridge pickup. That sounds nice and toppy in the neck position!
@palmerfralick

I wondered about that too. However it's wired (probably modern 3 way as it was used by a pro(s) so successfully) those pickups and Chris sound bloody incredible!
That intro might be my favorite one yet...
