‘Stories That Matter’ is a documentary series where we try to uplift some stories that deserve to be in the limelight. We believe every single individual in this world has a story to tell, through our initiative we try to push some stories that the media fails to cover.‘Stories That Matter’ started off with a bunch of young enthusiasts, wanting to make films, because we were passionate about it and eventually, these films ended up in National Level Film Festivals. Pretty cool for following our passion, right?
The idea of this series started off as we came across various individuals and their stories during the pandemic, most of whom have suffered financially and we wanted to raise funds for few of them, which could help them in sustaining their livelihood. Over time we came across so many stories, that we felt the need to continuously make documentaries so as to make their voices heard. At this point, we are trying to expand our stories all across Karnataka and India, eventually to make this a National project. I live in London now. But my ancestry is from Seetanadi, Hebri. Growing up in Bombay, I used to go to my hometown every summer break and boy it always the best time. Been about 2 years since I lasted visted. But for me, places like Hebri, Agumbe, Seetanadi, Mudhradi will always hold a special place in my heart🙏

I will never forget my friend who is not kannadiga pronouncing holige as “holidge” with the ‘d’ silent. I remember looking at her all confused when she was asking me what a “holige” was 😂. I actually visited Hebri a while ago but unfortunately knew nothing about Bhatru or their delicious fares. Hopefully next time!

What's the difference between Obbattu and Holige? I presume Obbattu is prepared by tapping by hand and thicker whereas Holige is by the roller, is thinner and Holige circumference is larger compared to Obbattu. Am I right here? Btw big fan of hebri holiges😀 have watched their Holige prep videos before too. This story had to come!

Obbattu and holige are one and the same authentic Karnataka recipe taken by migrants during the Peshwa rule to Maharashtra which is known as puran poli sounds similar to huranada holige in kannada

@@adithyahk Kayi holige appears somewhat closer to obbattu in texture and colour. But it is not the same. Obbattu has some fillings (kadle hittu??) inside it which is missing in Kayi holige. Holige comes in different flavours. Holige (the most common one prepared using kadlebele), Sakkare holige, Kharjoora holige, Kayi holige, Sajjige holige etc etc. Udupi style cuisine, sweets and savouries has its own origin and comes with a baggage of rich history and tradition. Probably dating back to at least 800+ years of perfecting this culinary art. We did not mix anything originating from Maharashtra. Please take that out of your mind.

Thank you for the suggestion. We will consider this. We have used Indian music in our initial videos. But we believe in trying out different stuff, hence we are working with other kinds of music as well, which we feel will help us break the monotony and push us in making something different. At the same time, we try to use Indian music as much as we can. We too are big fans of Indian classical music, hopefully you’ll see more of it in our future videos.

If they are really doing good business is it not needed that they spend some money to modernize the kitchen preparation area using Stainless steel table tops, not using printed newspaper to absorb oil/ ghee, getting walls plastered and painted decently? Taste is one thing, sanitation is another thing. Most Indian Sweet meat producing and selling places adopt age old furniture vessels or baskets etc though the prices only developed to current level.MILK SWEET industry of EAST India is an example.Stink of boiling of sour milk spreads 500 meters from such establishments.But we love SONDESH! ( just one example..other items are not forgotten).

Few years ago I had purchased two packets of holige from them while traveling through hebri, with all due respect to their efforts, their holige were one of the worst tasting. One of the packets the holige got spoiled within few hours and turned sour...I will never buy holige from them again..

Music
A nice video ruined by unconnected background(europian) music. If this video is done by National Geaographic, they will use local folk music(or at least south indian carnatic) and that is the quality of professionalism and good artist.
Don't use newspaper to store holiges or any food products.
