In Nancy Meyers' The Holiday, a romantic comedy from the director of Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want, two women trade homes only to find that a change of address can change their lives. Iris (Winslet) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda (Diaz), realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow-covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris' handsome brother Graham (Law) and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur (Wallach), mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles (Black).

Oh my goodness Hans Zimmer's score and Kate Winslet's narration is the most perfect opening.

I wished Hans played an actual character in this film who played the music because we know it's his score and not Jack Black. But Jack played a good character.

Its a gem, this movie certainly has the potential to make a person cry. Absolutely stunning. ❤️

This is absolutely one of my favourite films. I watched it after a surgery that left me in bed for weeks. Thank you so much Nancy, cast, and crew.You have made want to desire to live again. Beyond WONDERFUL!!!!
I love this movie, I never get tired of watching it, the story of the 4 characters is so tender as they know each other and fall in love 😍

Okay not only an incredible actress incredibly down to earth and very kind but Kate Winslet is also a great narrator! She should do more voice acting (example Rita from Flushed Away)
This is hands down one of my favorite movies especially around the holidays and I love the beginning! Nancy Meyers did so well with this one!

It's like a hallmark movie but with A-list celebrities.
Kate Winslet is so good here. Didn't come out properly in "Titanic" unfortunately, didn't match Jack as she would have in this film.

Honestly I fucking mad at her the guy's propose to other women in front of her face and she still do everything for him
SPOILER: So glad she started to see how toxic he really was by the end

I get the romance between Graham and Amanda, but I'll never understand the attraction Iris has to Jasper or Miles. Kate Winslet is beautiful, along with Cameron Diaz. Why would she be attracted to someone as ugly as Jasper or as fat and ugly as Miles?

I understand where you’re coming from, but Miles has charm and confidence. But I do wholeheartedly agree that Jasper is not at all attractive.

Kate Winslet actually dated the actor who plays Jasper in real life...he isn't my type but I'd hardly say he's ugly, and tbh looks aren't everything. Jack Black wasn't the typical 'romcom lead' type but I thought his character was quite sweet, and them starting off as friends (and going through the same experiences) was why she fell for him.

@@lunalove9395 Men and women are polar opposites when it comes to attraction. Trust me, all guys care about is how you look. Sure, if a guy is thinking about marrying someone, then other factors do matter, but if it's only sex he's after then looks are everything. Women see other things/characteristics, men don't. All we care about is how you look.

@@lunalove9395 True. I guess I'm just seeing it through my prism and forgetting that women see something completely different. Maybe that's why they call this a chick flick, women get it while men don't. I love this movie, but I guess for different reasons. I never even would have gone to see it if I hadn't run into the production while filming one of the scenes.
