    This is not only the best Hobbit fan edit I’ve seen, it lets the film sit comfortably next to LotR in quality. I acquired this based on a recommendation but still dreaded incorporating The Hobbit into my yearly LotR viewing. I’ve marveled at how much past fan edits improved The Hobbit, but it still felt like both a slog and a tragic reminder of how the films came out in the past. With your edit, it’s just…a good movie. I don’t even remember what the original was like and I barely think about it. I’m watching Fellowship now but itching to watch The Hobbit again, of all things. There is a joy to The Hobbit that feels tonally different, and there’s solid concise storytelling, a full-fledged adventure. It makes Frodo’s words that his own adventure turned out quite different resonate. At this point, I like The Hobbit more than The Two Towers, which, while a fantastic movie, is now the weakest in the saga. As someone who loves the book, I always hoped for that. Thanks for making this edit. The Hobbit finally takes its rightful place as a stand-alone masterpiece, a fun and exciting adventure that, with restraint and economy in storytelling, also complements Lord of the Rings if desired.

    I just watched your fan edit of The Hobbit and all I can say is: thank you. You've rekindled my love for this story after the Jackson trilogy made me want to forget it existed. I rate the 3 LotR movies at around 9.5/10 and the theatrical Hobbit films at 5-6/10 at best. Your edit, however, elevates The Hobbit to a solid 8.5/10 at least. I thought I would never watch it again, but I had so much fun with your edit, I'm sure I'll revisit it in a few years.

    With the Amazon show releasing, I've been feeling nostalgic and wanting to watch all of Jackson's extended cuts of Middle Earth in chronological order, but I was dreading getting through The Hobbit as the jumping off point. Thankfully, after scrolling through Reddit for a recommendation on fan edits, your work kept popping up. People spoke highly of it and I'm eager to check it out for myself. Thanks, man. Greatly appreciated.

    Just watched it myself recently, and my god, the pace of the experience became so great!!! Having only watched the original films on theaters, I remember dreading a rewatch knowing the amount of material that would make for a long, multi-sitdown watching experience with forced add-ons and side plots that take away from the world and the experience. Thank you so much. This truly elevates the material to a proper telling of the source material.

    I just watched this edit with my mom who recently read the book. Neither of us have seen the full Hobbit trilogy. We both enjoyed this version a great deal and it really felt like a coherent movie. I can't even imagine the editing skill that went into making this. There were a few times towards the end of the movie where it felt a little incoherent. The scene where Thorin's group joined the battle andwent hunting for the orc leader had some confusing cuts and felt a bit rushed but I guess it can't be avoided entirely. Overall fantastic work and thank you for making it available!

    Thank you. For years I’ve been bummed that the trilogy sucks because you can see how much love and care went into the sets, costumes, music and performances. It’s been painful to think about what could’ve been. So, thank you for finally giving us a version of the film that lives up to the work that went into it.

    Having just got done watching your recut, I can safely say you've redeemed these movies. There always was the original heart of the story, but it was buried beneath padding and studio mandates. You've brought the best possible version of these films to the light: a fantastical adventure with the themes of home over gold. Give yourself a freaking round of applause--you've earned it.

    Hi, I just wanted to say that I recently watched your edit with my mom and we both loved it very much! We went to the cinemas to watch the original trilogy way back when and even when I was only 9-11 years old I felt something was definetly off about it in comparison to LotR. Everything flows so seemlessly in your edit that it is barely noticable how much stuff has really been cut. And listening to your commentary I can know see how much work you've put into it, that is truly a commendable feat you've accomplished! And the whole Tolkien fandom is definetly thankful for your contribution. Me and my mom are not native English speakers though and there are no subs in our language, unfortunately, so I had to help her out with some words and phrases while we were watching. If I had enough time right now I would've tried making subs for it myself and perhaps I will sometime in the future, since I've had experience making translations and subtitles before. If I'll decide to do so, should I write to your e-mail adress given on your site?

    I HAD to come back and say a few things after i've watched it. Man, you've nailed it! THIS is the movie every single Tolkien fan must have in his movie collection, instead of the bullshit trilogy. The last two days i've rewatched the trilogy just to have a reminder and i've noticed a lot more cringe moments than i remember. Especially the third part (Battle of five armies) is a shitsow from start to finish. After i watched your cut, i feel that i saw a new beautiful movie that can stand next to the LOTR trilogy. Very profesional work in every level, i've really enjoyed it. Congratulations to you and all people involved. Your love and passion for a good outcome is everywhere. The only minor complaint is that i wanted the end credits to be as the last movie, with all the actors artwork, but i can live without it. The nice thing is that my 10 y.o niece saw in this Christmas break the LOTR trilogy for the first time and she's about to watch The Hobbit. I'm very glad that she will watch this cut. Once more, congratulations and thanks for bringing justice to one of my most favourite books!!

    I just finished watching this a few hours ago, and I love it so much. This really managed to make the Hobbit films satisfying, even exciting and downright emotional at times. It really slaps you in the face how good it could have been if they just removed all the unnecessary baggage, and this edit just does that in the most professional and seamless of ways. This is really quite close to an actual, undeniably great Hobbit film, only held back by the lack of scenes that Jackson and Co. didn't shoot (Like exploring more of the bond between Bilbo and the Dwarves, and adding more of the whimsical, charming and witty humor of the book that made it such a joy to read). Really, thank you so much for making this and all of the hard work that you put into it. I've seen the other edits, and this one just takes the cake for me. I can now wholeheartedly add the Hobbit to my yearly LoTR marathon, and I just want to express my appreciation to this and to you for making that possible! As a purist Tolkien fan, thank you so much!

    Thank you M4 for your hard work. This is the first time I have watched The Hobbit all the way through. I had given up completely on the PJ overkill. It was unfortunate PJ had to live up to his own LOTR movies in his choices for The Hobbit. Beyond any editing skills, I am still disappointed in how PJ and his team changed the battle scenes different from the book I remember. Apparently CG artists today were raised on video games. With a click they can turn 100 troops into 10000 and make a wall of shields snap into place and make elves into robots. I think Tolkien would have been disgusted with these annoying details.

  • @M4Studios

    @M4Studios

    4 ай бұрын

    Yes you are quite right, the battle sequence at the end was very odd. I found the size of the Orc army to be ridiculously large compared to the amount of dwarves and men. Many of the cut parts were also completely insane, there was a whole sequence about a blind troll with peg-legs and an orc controlling him, and one of the Dwarves climbed on and took control. Legolas was also at Ravenhill in the originals, he grabbed onto a bat that flew him up there and then he fought Orcs on top of a bridge of stone, the stones started to fall apart and fall down, so he ran on top of falling stones to get avoid falling all the way down a cliff. So even with all my edits, I couldn’t fix everything it’s unfortunate because the battle in the book is actually pretty good. It’s nonsense when people say Tolkien skipped the whole battle in the book, when in reality Bilbo watched almost the whole thing and was only knocked out near the end.

I am also sure, that there are many more fans to come and enjoy it in the future - I for one found it only just now and immediately sent it to my friends. Also, if you don't mind, I might have some suggestions, that could give you new options in your editing. Did you consider AI, for separating music, speech, and sound effects from the original soundtrack? As far as I know, it doesn't always work perfectly but it gives a lot of possibilities for further improvement. With good editing skills, which you certainly have, it would be possible, to make all the transitions flawless. Thanks again for all your work!

    Hey! Thank you. I did consider AI but when I made the cut it probably wasn't as developed. It was only used for helping fix Thorin's wounds in the new vfx shot. Personally, I found 5.1 audio manipulation and manually adding new sound effects to be enough. Maybe one or two spots I wish I could fully remove music but oh well. I'll always keep the project files

    Just watched with a friend and it was pretty good. Cutting all the fluff out really focuses the narrative on the quest and the Bilbo/Thorin/Dwarves relationship; much much better. One thing I would have done differently is I would have kept the orc chase sequence between the Trolls and Rivendell, for a few reasons: - It helps setting up the idea that they're being chased by orcs so it's less jarring when they just pop up after the Goblin Town sequence - without it, the ponies just disappear right after the Troll sequence - and saving the ponies was the entire point of that sequence. - right before the Troll sequence, Thorin says he never wants to go to Rivendell. without the orc chase forcing them to go there, it just looks like Thorin was totally bamboozled by Gandalf, and never thought to ask where they were going.

  • @M4Studios

    @M4Studios

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks, glad you enjoyed! Well my goal was to edit the films to follow the book so there was no chance I was gonna keep more orc chasing, but I get what you mean. I actually liked that scene a lot so it’s included as a deleted scene on the ISO! it’s never going to be perfect I agree, but is it *plausible*, these are my 2 replies: -Where are the ponies when the dwarves are being tied up and held captive? They clearly ran away as they aren’t in the background, so that’s why I can forgive this - My one question, is it plausible gandalf would guide them into a passage towards rivendell without telling them? I think you’re proposing that thorins character would’ve turned the company around and gone around rivendell in this moment, but that’s because you’re relying on the original context where he was forced to enter by Orcs. You just gotta forget that and go with the flow

    Hi, I can at least assure you that the video file you downloaded is fine there is no corruption, at the very least you could plug your laptop into your TV through HDMI if it has an HDMI port, that's how I would watch fan edits, just take the HDMI out from something else you're not using and temporarily use it for your laptop. For the USB, it's possible your USB was overheating or lagging so the video was having trouble playing, or the video was not fully copied over from your computer, and lastly it's possible your USB needs to be formatted for your TV. All you have to do is right click it and click Format, you could try switching to NTFS and FAT32.

    There isnt, its a disc file so it cant be streamed but it doesnt exactly take a nasa super computer to download these files. I think it might be worth it to upgrade your system if you dont have any free space, you could buy a 1 terabyte drive for like 30 bucks which can fit 1,000 GB

    Really love the edit but I noticed an issue in the Troll scene, the way a line is cut does make sense. The troll says 'Everything tastes like chicken...what tastes like fish' Nothing too major and nothing I'd expect you to go back and change, just a missing 3 words

    Thanks! But I don’t quite understand, he’s complaining about the taste being boring, and then he’s wondering what fish tastes like. What words are missing? He’s a troll so his grammar is a bit silly

    Sorry I could've made it clearer. Fan Edit Troll 1: Everything tastes like chicken...what tastes like fish Original Troll 1: Everything tastes like chicken Troll 2: Except the chicken Troll 1: What tastes like fish The 'except the chicken' line is missing from the middle

    @Adamantium Pandas Yeah I cut that on purpose, I didn’t like the joke. Now William is just rambling about meat, I interpret his line as “what meat tastes like fish”, trolls aren’t the smartest. But if you disagree I respect it, just my view

    @@M4Studios Oh my bad, I haven't listened to the commentary so I guess that went over my head. Sorry I didn't mean to criticise, you've done really great work here. My favourite edit is the cut to the dwarves when Smaug bursts out of Erebor, it's such an ingenious idea

    I'm working in an edit where Gollum throws Sam off the cliff, but I wish there was a way to have gollum look down the cliff to see if sam wakes up. The sequence where he says 'very dangerous on the stairs' while looking down at the hobbits has the perfect angle, but you see sam and frodo climbing. Do you have any idea of how hard it would be to remove them and have sam lying unconscious for that shot? It's this shot at the 35 second mark: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKl8lbt6lJaYcps.html

    How do I make the blu ray cover for this fanedit of yours?

  • @M4Studios

    @M4Studios

    In the google drive all the art files are uploaded, you basically have to save the one you want and print it out at the correct size, which is a standard 2-disc blu-ray case (the ones where a disc is on the left and the right). You can do a couple test prints in black/white with rough draft settings to make sure you have the size right before you do the high quality color print.

    @@M4Studios I have the google Drive for a long time, you even give It to me when the website was closed on Reddit (I have deleted my account) But a normal paper isn't what you use on a blu Ray cover. So this part is hard. Also the fact that I need to download the movies on a virgin blu ray disc wich I can't right now. But atleast I have more knowledge on the disc part.

    @@pasalasaga The google drive does work, you just have to wait for the Quota to disappear. It's because there's too much traffic. Honestly, I used normal paper on my version and it looks good so don't worry, just make sure you can get a good quality print with colored ink that's the main thing
