Russell’s biggest downfall is that he thinks finding idols makes him entitled to win the game. Yes it’s a legit and significant part of modern survivor, but idols alone don’t make up for pissing off the jury with arrogance and disrespect

The advantage is knowing everyone's vote is for you the reason it's not a viable strategy is because no one on the jury votes for you to win

He might never win but he IS the Idol king. He is more recognizable than a lot of the actual winners, he might not have the money but he has the fame.

Dwight Schrute : Three immunity idol clues, and you'll receive a immunity idol. Jim Halpert : Now, that sounds serious. Dwight Schrute : Oh, it is serious. Five immunity idols, and you're looking at an immunity idol nullifier. Four of those, and you'll receive a fire token. Keep it up, and you're looking at a super immunity idol. Two of those, that will land you in a world of hurt, in the form of a super immunity idol nullifier, written up by me, and placed by the central fire pit at the next tribal council.

Eliza playing the idol wasn't a bad move. Either it's somehow real (1 in a million but hey, she was going home anyway) or she exposes Ozzy for having the real one. The hilarious thing is that Jason was eventually right, it was indeed an idol 10 years later on Ghost Island, and was even played correctly. I've thought about it a long time and I think Kaoh Rong was building on something good. It would be cool if you could find "fragments" of an idol with one fragment granting you immunity before the votes are read like Guatemala, two fragments acts as a standard idol, and three acts like the super idols that Terry Yul and Tony had.

I’d love to see the idol hidden at tribal council like it was in that one South African Survivor season. One hilarious idea is to have someone write a fake clue saying that the idol is hidden in Jeff Probst’s pocket and if someone believes it and walks up to Jeff searching his pockets for an idol that doesn’t exist!

It's hard to cover the entire history of the idol in just 30 minutes, but you did a really good job. I think you could almost make an entire video just about the gameplay surrounding the idols in Heroes v. Villains. In addition to the famous double idol play, you have failed vote splits that led to Cirie and Tyson getting voted out pre-merge, players hiding idols from their ostensible allies and losing trust as a result, Rupert bluffing that he had an idol with a rock in his pocket, Sandra putting on a masterclass in jury showmanship by playing her idol, etc.

I haven't watched it since it aired so I will now have to take a look because I thought they legitimately did not record him finding it.

As underpowered as the original idol was (effectively an extra immunity necklace), I was dying to know whether Gary had found it or not. I really liked that the producers left that ambiguous until the time came for him to actually play it. And then Survivor overcorrected by making the idol incredibly overpowered in the next two seasons (especially Yul's version) before getting it right with the current version.

Gary, Amanda and the second idol Ben found were the only instances where the question going into tribal is whether or not they found it. I wish that was used more often, but then again it would get old very quickly! Gary you could argue found an idol without a clue, but he technically had a second hand clue from Judd!

yea, but unlike Russell, Gary used his 200 IQ to try and search for clues from Judd. Russell literally just straight up went searching from nowhere, with not a single pointer

KZread wants to recommend me Survivor all of a sudden. I'm glad I clicked this one. It's been fun watching the history of the show for someone who hasn't watched since Heroes vs Villains

I hated Russel as a character (and I do consider the Survivor contestants characters on some level), but I did respect how he could find immunity idols without the clues. If only he had realized that you need the jury to like or at least respect you to win.

The law of diminishing returns is starting to apply to idols and advantages. I feel like IOI and WaW prove that advantages don’t really feel like advantages if there’s too many of them that are too easy to find/be given. I’m much more engaged in there being a single idol that the whole cast has to be paranoid about then having a Game Changers situation when literally everyone can be immune at a tribal. Idols are one of the smartest twists ever pu into the game and they make for super entertaining TV, However hope there is never double digit idols found in a season ever again 😂

The idol clue fight at the movie reward in season 20 might be one of the best clue finding moments. I think that season also had clues in the rice, is that the only time it occurred?

One thing I think should have been mentioned was in Caramoan when Malcom used both his immunity idols to counter the split vote. While it didn't work out as well, it was still a cool thing to see and something that caught me off guard. And also the Tyson boot in HvV as that showed how risky the split vote was as it takes just 1 vote to ruin things and have the numbers flipped. Those 2 idol moves were real gamechangers in my eyes. Maybe you could do a video on the whole split vote premise and reference those there.

For sure. This video was more focused on the idol itself and how it was used in different ways (meaning how it was implemented in the game), but I do think a history of every single idol play is in order to cover these great moves.

The Caramoan split vote still triggers me, they gave the core alliance an out by saying Phillip is getting votes, there was no risk for the others, needed to say we are all voting a different person 3 of you are getting tied for the most votes, I suggest you vote for somebody other wise you could be in trouble

@@br4dyv Someone brought up in a different comment section that the three amigos best play was to not tell anyone who they were voting for, only vote for each other, and then negate every vote cast against them. That way on the revote only the majority is eligible for votes and they can decide who goes home like Brenda or Andrea.

Yeah Russell and Boston Rob both came back in a final showdown (since Russell 'defeated' Boston Rob from the Villains Alliance in the HvV Season, then went on to Final 3 in back-2-back seasons). Russell got hated on and voted out 2nd in his tribe for being the biggest threat, Boston Rob got super lucky and landed on a dumb tribe that took him all the way to the end of the game WHERE HE WON-- he was the only returning player left after Russell was voted out I couldn't believe Russell's luck-- if he was on Rob's tribe he would've won easily.

He was definitely getting at least 4 votes. However he should've waited to play it till the normal time. Cause what he did actively sabotaged his voting power. If he waited, he a good chance at taking out who he wanted like in the previous vote.

There was a reason Bob played the fake idol - Along with Randy, he was one of the Kotas who was now on the outs, and he felt he was in danger, as the Fangs were now picking off the Kotas (other than Susie who flipped to them in a heartbeat). Bob's reasoning for giving Randy the fake idol was in order to gain favor with Sugar and save himself - which ultimately did benefit him, as while he remained the biggest target for the rest of the season and avoided elimination due to somehow becoming that season's Challenge Dominator, the key thing that saved him in the end and let him win was Sugar deciding not to vote him out at the Final Four and allowing him to go to firemaking against Matty. Of course, one could also still argue that Bob would or could have still won Sugar's favor even without going along with it, and there is also the fact that Bob was PISSED at Sugar afterwards for her behavior during that Tribal Council, but, upon a recent rewatch of the season, Bob did outright say this was his reasoning going in for why he went along with the fake plan. It's just a shame he didn't think to mention all this at Final Tribal Council when Randy grilled him on it and claimed there was "no strategic reason" behind it, but as we all know, Bob giving a terrible FTC performance didn't prevent him from winning anyway

It honestly kind of irks me when people complain about "idols being hidden waste-high right off the path".. do y'all realize how many hiding spots that still leaves? Have you ever had to find something that small in the woods? It's not as simple as y'all like to act like it is. The reason they're in "easier" spots is probably so they don't have to have clues anymore, which gives everyone a shot at finding one.

Maybe infamous because it went no where? The alliance, if Taj, JT, and Stephen stuck to it, would have had both idols and completely run the game. Pretty disappointing to see Brendan go home so early after orchestrating a potentially amazing cross tribe alliance.

Agreed, even though it made for an awesome moment in DvG. I appreciate the effort the show makes to evolve the game but I don’t like that advantage. Also think the steal a vote advantage needs to go away, as the whole point of the game is to vote people out. Sucks to have such an integral part of the game taken away from players.

Where does JT get the pad of paper and pen in HvV? I feel like that is an extremely overpowered convenience in startegizing. You could pass notes without ever having to speak in person

I do feel it's a lot more fair to be mad at the Janet blindside than you made it out to be. Carl had to actually FIND the Idol Nullifier. Dean got it from a coin flip, of all things. It doesn't feel good to know a player's game got completely tanked because they got caught on the wrong side of a coin flip.
