Fingerboard trucks in the earliest times were one of a few things: whatever your skateboard keychain came with, whatever your skateboard toy used, or were DIY’d. One of the most popular DIY trucks were to take the axels out of a toy car, such as a Hot Wheel, and glue them to the fingerboard.
In 1998, xConcepts released Tech Deck, which revolutionized fingerboarding.
Almost immediately, fingerboarders began to customized these trucks.
One common issue with Tech Deck trucks were that the nuts would regularly become loose and even fall off the truck. Prior to using lock nuts - fingerboarders would glue the nut to the axle or kingpin, preventing them from loosening unintentionally. Locktite was a popular componenet in a fingerboarders arsenal.
In the summer of 2009, two revolutionary trucks were released. Y-Trucks made by Yellowood and Blackriver Trucks made by Blackriver. There were similarities - Both options offered features that greatly improved the experience of riding a fingerboard.
Blackriver Trucks kingpin and hanger were held together by a nut. The truck utilized a single axle, and the trucks were made of high quality aluminum.
Blackriver released the 2.0 in 2010 featuring 7 colors, and design optimizations. In 2022, Blackriver released the 3.0 truck, featured reinforced steel axles.
Y-Trucks innovated as well, with the most noticaeable being the inverted kingpin, allowing the hanger to have more clearance over the kingpin for a smoother grind. This kingpin utilized a Torx head to prevent wear of allen keys compared to traditional keys.
Additionally, unlike Blackriver Trucks, the length of their single axles allowed both dual and single bearings. They also utilized an anti-loose nut system (locknuts), and their bushings were made from Viton (a material used in aerospace and automotive use cases).
Blackriver and Yellowood unlocked the final piece of the puzzle. It was in summer of 2009 that a fingerboarder could finally have a 100% professional-caliber fingerboard setup, over 10 years after Tech Deck released.
Woody Wood Fvcker Trucks (later renamed Undead FVCKER TRUCK) out of Indonesia in 2011 with the goal of offering a more affordable professional fingerboard truck. These trucks were cast and shaped by hand.
2KR, founded in 2013 out of Slovakia, released trucks at least as early as early 2015, but most likely earlier. Another brand focused on providing quality fingerboard trucks at a more affordable price, 2KR trucks prove to be a popular option for fingerboarders.
In late 2015 Scott Biesboer released the Dynamic 3D Printed Fingerboard Truck, marking the first 3D printed professional fingerboard trucks. 32mm in width, the trucks initially included: 2 Truck Hangers, 2 Truck Baseplates, 8 Mounting Screws, 4 Viton O-Ring Bushings, 4 Axle Screws, 2 Kingpin Screws, and 2 Custom Made Pivot Cups. The 3D printed metal trucks, were most likely the first of its kind. Unfortunately, it wasn’t feasible to continue printing metal trucks.
Later, Dynamic revamped their design and manufacturing process. One important highlight is that Dynamic Trucks feature pre-threaded baseplate holes, and likely were the first to offer that feature!
Caramel trucks feature an inverted kingpin and can be used with both single and dual bearing wheels.
One note is that Caramel offers the ability to purchase custom sizes, even sizes that are outlandish proportions!
UAG was founded in 2019 in Japan. In 2021, UAG developed their original trucks. These trucks feature their iconic A-Frame hanger shape. Later, UAG released the A-Frame v2 shape. Featuring a unique hanger design and come in 33.5mm.
Vortex Trucks, created in Australia, with the goal of bridging the gap for affordable professional trucks. V2 Comes standard with an inverted kingpin. V3 offers adaptable baseplates, allowing both standard and inverted kingpin options.
SB Trucks out of Poland uses standard locknut kingpin.
The most recent addition to the pro truck mix is Obsius, which were released in 2022.
Eureka Trucks are a truck manufactured out of China. Offering an inverted kingpin in both 32mm Eureka I and 34mm Eureka II, they are also among the least expensive unique design out there.

I’m glad I heard someone say obsius’s name. Ob-sigh-us. I’ve been saying Ob-see-us Obsius trucks are best in my opinion. The one solid mold idea is brilliant, solving the “axel slip” problem. Obsius wheels feel soft grippy- but hard, kinda like a bowling ball. Still trying out the new innovations in the fingerboard world, but so far obsius equipment has me amazed currently.

Yes! Both are fantastic options :)
I got my first _BerlinWood_ in 2003 and soon a set of _Winkler Wheels_ followed - it blew our minds when we discovered this early quality fingerboard equipment at a local skateshop in Berlin. Unfortunatly we had to keep purchasing Techdeck oldschool/longboard trucks because they kept disintegrating quite reliably. Because of the trucks fingerboards always kept feeling a little "toy-ish" for some years even though the rest of the setup was as high-end as it gets, especially for the time. We virtually longed for someone coming up with a solid tuning truck. It must have been around the time when _Blackriver_ introduced their trucks when I eventually dropped out fingerboarding because my life was somewhat turbulent to put it mildly. I had lost my fingerboard and considered getting a new one, and if I would do so then certainly without any _Techdeck_ crutches this time. But then I heard they were asking for more than 50€ - I had bought pairs of real _Independent_ trucks for less and thought "F☠️k it, that's way too over the top in a way I don't want to support" and cancelled the whole idea. I underestimated the effort put into quality trucks and only saw them exploiting the desperation of fingerboarders - something which I regret now. This autumn I suddenly felt like fingerboarding again and got a complete at ASI Berlin - I had seen that by now there were affordable trucks still way superior to Techdeck, finally I could enjoy fingerboarding without having to worry about wheels on separated axle pins flying around. But now I dug into fingerboarding to catch up and the stuff I've seen available nowadays was an outright revelation. Despite having an actually sufficient entry level setup I couldn't help myself to set up an even better one. I got a quality deck which is "more crisp", wheels with metal core, and the only thing missing would be the _Obsius_ trucks which already on their way. I can't wait to get it - the resulting board will be like something we only could have dreamt of back in the day!
I just got a new blackriver complete with the BRT 3.0s. So far they have been amazing. Very smooth ride
I've been thru a pair of y trucks and now on a pair of dynamics and can Definitely say the craftsman ship of each are insane, i remember when i started black river and y trucks were the only thing and when i finally got my hands on y trucks it felt life changing 😂

Pro trucks are a game changer - It's also my favorite part of the setup. Something about having a great set of trucks really ups the quality of the entire setup.
Hardly anything that came after stacks up to the original pro truck. Basically anything with inverted kingpins has been inferior from my experience. Even Ys are highly outdated an have a ton of QC issues. BRT, Dynamic SE, and UAG are the best. Only thing I haven’t tried are SBs. Also my 2KR never came (refused to send more) so fuck em.. they look like old TDLBs that have been shaped anyway. If you need custom sizes IndustryFB will do full hangers instead of just longer axles like Caramel does. Dynamic occasionally does custom sizes too.

Loved the video, the end about IP theft with trucks... At this point truck designs have been standard for 50 years. People claim Tech Deck copied Black Rivers truck design. Gotta say its at design point where you cant make a new design only copy and improve on another. If i make a new style of door that has rounded corners and it sells, did i reinvent the door? Or just modify the old design? Did I steal the IP of the first door maker? Nah, its a door. Just like its a truck. Doesnt take massive thought to copy some measurements
The whole thing about the china replicas just doesn't make any sense. Since when do you have to condone something to record it as part of history? It's a significant part of the history happening right now, and it was actually the thing I was most looking forward to hearing about in this video. If the best we can do for recording fingerboardings history is only covering the highlights, then we're going to get a very inaccurate image looking back. I hope you can take this into consideration going forward. I'm not asking you to be a drama channel, but I don't think anyone wants or benefits from a one-sided recording of history. I really appreciate what you're doing. I just want to see this channel be the best it can be
@cdplaya
Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the comment. First, I wouldn't categorize replica trucks as a professional truck option, which is what this video is focused around. There's just a massive difference in quality of design and materials between pro trucks and their replica counterparts. On a separate note, the companies mentioned in this video have invested time, thought, and money developing original designs. We are talking hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars up front. Those replica trucks manufacturers cheap out every step of the way. If they were unwilling to put energy into developing their own designs, then they sure as hell are going to cheap out on customer service, quality control, materials, etc. To me, that's not professional. I do understand many fingerboarders are looking for inexpensive options that are better than base Tech Deck trucks. This is the space replica trucks play!

@@cdplaya I See where you're coming from, but I don't see how it has much to do with my statement. You phrased it in the video that you aren't including them, because you don't condone their usage. I'm guessing that was a misunderstanding/miscommunication, since it seems like those are two separate thoughts, from your reply. I don't think their lack of professionalism excludes them from being a part of pro truck history, as they are a direct result of the trucks they are knocking off. I get what you're thinking was on the matter, but I think a video on budget trucks would be more likely to sway people towards buying them, since viewers of that video are more likely to be looking for cheap trucks. I completely agree with all your statement on the hard work put into pro trucks and all the things the replicas lack, I just don't think that means they aren't part of the discussion. I mean I have trucks which would support it (ASI 2.0 Trucks) but you find nowhere in Germany wheels with dual bearings so what does it bring to me that I COULD use them but still can’t cuz no dual bearing wheels out there…😅 How I sad, it’s a bummer that this would fix so many issues but no one seems to care about… (without both of us..) 🙈😅
Honestly i just rock td trucks with a baseplate with a shorter kingpin

Yea, it's interesting and I've wondered that myself! There's a locking mechanism built into the hanger and the single axle. You can see part of the design at 1:50 in the video!
the quality of brt is better but dynamics dont have the pin sticking out as much which does sometimes hinder me when using brt trucks + brt bushings are not good i think both or equal good
im rocking a 32 Brts 2.0

@@cdplaya your welcome man. I’ve been tryna find if you had a KZread or a insta and I solved my own question
What are pro trucks made out of, skate trucks are made of aluminum alloys. I’m guessing it’s the same.
