    0:28 those are some real great moves. Not ironic or sarcastic, just some good dancing. Didn't have to go that hard for a background detail of a video game history video, but I am so glad you did anyway!

    This is still a weird niche thing for a lot of people, but using a gyroscope for fine aiming in FPS games is pretty great once you get the hang of it. I'm pretty sure the original splatoon basically invented it but the steam controller and steam deck's "touch a capacitive button to activate the gyro" is designed heavily towards gyro aiming. I like it, but I don't use it all the time.

  • @raven75257

    @raven75257

    It wasn't really Splatoon that "invented" gyro, but rather the entire 3DS itself. Splatoon is simply the most popular example of gyro. I do agree though. Gyro needs to become an industry standard option in most games. When it comes to objective performance, gyro is better than sticks by a landslide. While it is a pain to setup (in steam at least), it is certainly worth it. It won't be easy, though, with Microsoft refusing to add gyro to their controllers, and there being quite a few people who despise gyro because they believe that "gyro = exhausting waggle". Though, with Nintendo's insistence on gyro, that number is smaller every year.

    You missed the whole lineup of SteamVR headsets. There's the vive, vive pro, valve index (often displayed next to the deck) and it was VERY important in the development of VR as they were actually first to implement motion before oculus copied them.

    Wow, seeing the Razer Hydra gave me a flashback. Back in 2015, before VR headsets with motion controllers were even on the market, i knew a guy developing a shooter game using a Oculus Rift DK2 and the razer hydra. It was my first ever "full body" experience in VR, which was something very uncommon at that time.

    You forgot valve for vr. Also all headsets use accelerometers and gyros but use other sensors for correction. Also you forgot the Wii’s pointer. People also speculate the main reason for sixaxis not having rumble is patent disputes. Valve also had the steam machine which came out alongside the steam controller. Valve also had a partnership with oculus but when they were bought by Facebook valve partnered with htc for the vive.

    I think people intuitively think that video games are for letting us escape into some digital alternate reality, and that's why they think things like motion controls and virtual reality are the future of video games. However the truth is that this isn't the case. The real function of video games is to have something engaging to to with our hands that doesn't involve a lot of physical movement. Motion controls, if anything go against the true function of video games and therefore can't really be the future of video games. The same is also true of VR. If these were to have a future, the best they can be is some other hobby that coexists along side video games. They can never become the main thing video games are because they fulfill a totally different purpose.
