The History of Marvel vs Capcom's 'Special Partners'.

Ойындар

This video took 7 weeks to make. On top of the ridiculous amount of research and fact checking, I had to learn to play X-Men: COTA, Marvel Super Heroes, MSH vs SF and (for just 1 combo) Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Games I have never put any time into and really didn't understand until now. This was because I wanted to include some fun combos for the characters featured in those games. Basically, I wanted it to be clearly authored by someone who both loves and can (to some degree) play, fighting games.
Also, it's important to mention that all the information in this video refers specifically to Capcom made fighting games. For example, mentioning the fact that Jubilee never became a playable character simply means that you couldn't play as her in any 2d, Capcom fighting games. I'm sure you could probably play as her in some of those random 3d x-men games at some point.
It's difficult to describe the relief I'm feeling from making the final draft of this video. I got super burnt out several times when trying to put this together and it seems to be pretty much impossible for it to ever be successful enough to justify the time I put in. I'm still glad I made it though and I do have another couple of ideas for longer form videos if any of you guys particularly enjoyed this one and want to see more.
Anyway, thanks so much for watching and for reading through my nonsense, it's much appreciated. You can support me by checking out any of the links below.

Hey everyone, this is unlike any video I've ever made. It took 7 weeks to put together and I honestly almost gave up on it a couple of times. So, if you want to see more of this kind of thing, please let me know in the comments. I've got another 7 or 8 new videos in the works that aren't tied to new games or DLC characters. So, there'll be a steady stream of content coming out over the next few weeks. As always, thanks so much for watching and supporting the channel. I'm super fortunate to be able to make videos for all of you awesome people!

I have this strong belief for a long time that Mvc1's assists were a decisive inspiration for the larger "1st party festivity" tone of Smash since Brawl and since they added trophies. It's a smart and efficient way to add more content, adding something to the actual gameplay, involving chars that might not be fit or worthy of a playable char role, and that adds value to chars/franchises that may be "forgotten". Kof 00 also had a Very similar approach with assists, and It was only done once in the series, and interestingly Very near Mvc1's release. It's a Shame that Capcom never went back to that system. They were pioneers on that. But now Smash has taken over the field. I wish a Future Mvc title could accomodate that old system somehow not conflicting with the modern Mvc2 assist concept. Content wise it's going to be very tough for any crossover fg to compete against Smash Ultimate, so Capcom will need to use all cool history fanservice at hand to their advantage.

@@carlosaugusto9821 TBF, this sort of 1st Party celebration was kinda common practice back in the 90s. Konami did this with zany cute-em ups of Parodius, which not only referenced Gradius up the wazoo, but would pull elements from other SHMUPs Konami made back then and even beyond (like Raiden, Truxton, R-Type, Darius...) - and I'd also argue Bubble Symphony (a.k.a Bubble Bobble 2) did implement fully on this "Assist"-feature way back on 1993 via various items you could find in the game to summon other Taito-mascots/arcade icons at the time (including the legendary ship from Space Invaders) Nevertheless, I believe not only did Capcom pull off these sort of tributes right starting from Pocket Fighter, they got to tap on something that Smash probably never will: having iconic fighting game characters and beyond duke it out against iconic comic book icons.

@Frizzurd Kinda? The longer answer is that she just calls the plasmoids "fireworks," but can will them to be as weak or as powerful as she wants to no damage to herself. They can go from blinding someone to detonating and destroying objects, and can be wide-spread or needle precision. Emma Frost even said at one point that if she REALLY wanted to, she could detonate matter at a subatomic level. Otherwise, characters like Wolverine only have adamantium claws and healing ability, as well as Cyclops only having varying optic blasts, and both of them got a full moveset. What's stopping them from fleshing out what Jubilee could do like they did for them?

@@omegaslothman394 Yes i agree, It could have boosted Mvc3's crossover nature power. The right time to implement it was certainly in Mvc3, when the series got big. Also the general media capacity nowadays would allow them to put much more content compared to the cps arcade era.

Luis Reyes well, popularity and recognition are practically the defining reasons a character gets chosen for smash, aside from having a history with Nintendo. Not only have they never appeared on a Nintendo console, Pure and Fur come from an exclusively Japanese game, and if any non-japan audience actually manages to recognize them they’d have to remember them as just obscure assist characters. They never had a shot at even making mii costumes, let alone Fighters.

@@KEN-1991 Capcom had nothing to do with NxC. It was made by Monolithsoft. The same Monolithsoft that makes the Xenoblade games and made the Project x Zone games which were sequels to NxC. NxC was also a turn-based SRPG with minimal sprite work so they can cram in as many characters as possible. Not at all comparable to a fighting game that needed thousands of sprites made for each character. MVC also only had a year or two of development and was limited by the CPS2 hardware it was made on. That's why they couldn't go beyond having around 15 playable characters for every MVC game they made on that hardware. It wasn't until MVC2 that they could put all the characters in the series into one game plus many new characters because they moved development to the Naomi hardware which was basically the arcade version of the Dreamcast.
