Back when RoTJ came out, everything was so new.. Luke’s calm resolve and confidence, his black outfit (and glove), the first real look of the actual Emperor (not some weird hologram), the red Imperial guards (who didn’t do ANYTHING except look cool), (ahem) Leia’s outfit, Jabba’s first real appearance, death of Yoda, verification of Luke/Vader lineage, speeder bikes, the huge fleets of ships, faster fighters, and that awesome, awesome GREEN lightsaber 🤓😎

@@MI3am I think that its “snap-hiss” is meant to illustrate how the red Kyber crystals were supposed to be more powerful than other crystals. I always fealt that a lightsaber wasn’t “ignited” as much as its power was “released”. This also is my nerdy explanation why Jedi sometimes move their hand when it comes on.. and not just because the director told the actor to do it so the foley artists and fx editors know when to put it in 😏

@@MI3am That's probably because Luke's green crystal was synthetic, just like a red crystal. Giving off a similar ignition and hum
Interestingly enough though. In Jedi: Fallen Order, each color of lightsaber does have its own ignition sound.

Hence why the maker of the video probably got inspired to do it. I was hoping the movies followed these rules, but it's kinda surprising that Fallen Order is probably the only piece of Star Wars content that treats the sabers so uniquely.

There aren't really any complex machines in the world of Harry Potter except for the ones made by normal people. Apparently magic cancels out the ability for said machines to function. Yes, the Hogwarts Express is a steam train, however the train doesn't use steam but magic (doesn't explain the chuffing noise as that is caused by the exhausted steam coming through the chimney). The flying car also uses magic as opposed to gasoline or diesel.

In response to Luke’s unique sound that plays when he yells at Vader, in rebels kanan states that thoughts and emotions of the wielder become energy and flow through the crystal and into the blade. So it stands to reason with both Luke and mual their outburst of wild emotions caused the lightsabers to ignite in a much harsher way and I love that little attention to detail even if it was unintentional at first
I appreciate that you actually label it "1," 2" or "3" when the audio plays. Small touch, but helps for some reason.

Got this idea from another person here in the comments, but A cool thing they should make secretly canon is that the sound is based on the mood of the wielder. They are connected to the force after all, and it makes sense that their sound, and speed of ignition will reflect the force energy of its wielder, hence why most dark side people make sound 2. Fin made sound 2 because he's not force sensitive, so maybe it just makes the sound that the blade itself feels like at the time.

I believe synthetic crystals are now considered Legends. In the recent Vader comics its said that to turn a cyber Krystal from the regular blue and green to red, you have to force all of your negative emotions and energy onto the crystal. The mere fact, that Sound 3 is labled as the gold standard makes me love this video. You sir, are right :-D
Well I believe it’s because the force is tied to the emotion of the user and the kyber crystal is connected to the force as well so it makes sense that the sound will change with the emotions
Great video! I've always been a little disappointed that the lightsabers lacked a real variety in their ignition sounds since they were all supposed to be unique to the Jedi or Sith. If they're all going off and building their own from scratch, wouldn't it make sense for each one to sound a little different? I think you might have nailed it with the sounds reflecting the user and their emotions whenever the lightsaber is turned on, it seems like something the sound guys would have done to add a small touch to the movies. Keep up the good work!!

But of course. Why not?
Very interesting. Loved it bro. My fav is number 3
I've literally noticed all of this in my head but never given it words. Thanks for the extremely not disappointing essay.
Interesting note: in Battlefront 2 the lightsaber sounds keep a bit of consistency with either their original users or alignment; Anakin's saber uses sound 1 and, since both use the same blade that was passed on, Luke as well; all the Sith use sound 2 (personally I'd like to believe the synthetic saber crystals that makes all the blades red also gives them all the same sounds), sound 3 stays with Luke's green one only, and sound 4 stays on Rey's gold saber. It gets a bit blurred after that aside from Kylo's at times, which is a mix of sound 2 and his unique one, but Obi Wan and Yoda seem to either be a blend of sound 1 and 2 or some new one for them that each have. Regardless, the Sith keep sound 2 and the Jedi either keep a generic Jedi sound or use their original sounds.

This was really interesting, thanks for the video! ^^ I love wee details like this, it's super cool and just shows how much love went into the films! I think my favourite would probably be Sound 3! X3
Editing and storytelling in this video is crazy good
