Gordon's regular Perspex model, based on the Sodor Island Forum interview with show modelmaker Chris Noulton, was actually a brand new casting with adjustments in the pattern outline from the pilot model, which was kept after the pilot through production of Season 2 as a spare. The modified Perspex model description on the Thomas wiki only counts Thomas, where the body from his pilot model simply had final details added and was fitted to a modified Marklin chassis. Ya know....the preview for the new series dropped today and I was.....hollow. And then I saw your video in my recommends and returned to that place of interest of Thomas because of how much details Awdry and the original team put into crafting these engines and characters so they could be as detailed and close to the real thing as possible. Knowing about animation, I know that most of the choices done in the new show were to make things easier to animate and reduce time but then i remembered how the CG crew made certain to but in EVERY FREAKING DETAIL of the real engines into that show to not just show how good they were at their craft but to pay respect to the original books and inspiration. I say this because there are fans who are younger than me and people working at Mattel who have not just RESEARCHED the Thomas SERIES but every engine they're based off on to the point I am legit impressed at you guys and I would rather watch more docs from fans than what Mattel is going to give us. Plus they got read of James in the show so FCUK OFF WITH THAT REBOOT.

Gordon and James were my two favourites growing up as a Kid. Once the show switched to CGI, I lost interest. I tried giving the show another chance a couple years back and I could not handle it. The interior of the express coaches are completely wrong (based on the episodes of old when we saw modelled interiors of the coaches, they should have corridors and not rows of seats like a bus)! I even tried watching some of the specials, including The Great Race and King of the Rails. I still don’t like CGI Thomas & Friends and based on what you mentioned for the next season of Thomas and Friends, it makes me sad that the next generation won’t know the real Thomas and Friends series and appreciate the models we grew up with. Bottom line, I love your videos and I cannot wait until you cover the James model. Keep up the good work!

Fun fact. If you look closely, you can see that Gordon’s pistons always appear to be broken/incomplete on the inside. This was because, when his pistons were intact, his front truck couldn’t rotate and he was unable to turn corners.

the smoke for the pilot models was achieved with a 12V car cigarette lighter which ran off a contact on the rails. This DID work, however it made the bodies buckle out of shape due to the generated heat
