    Are there any videos people can recommend on learning about ASEAN and how it’s benefited its member nations? I feel like I don’t hear enough about them for how big of a union they are and would love to learn more

    we have an asean free trade so there's free trade zone ports where the duty free supermarket has lots of products from other asean nations, and there's no visa needed to travel to asean member states and there's like asean university network where asean universities work together in some facets and there's like some sort of olympic games related to being asean member states

    @@luisfilipe2023 eeeh maaaybee but if you tell that to other people of asean countries, they usually say they dont wanna end up with the issues that plague the EU and want to be a better sort of group adapted to how southeast asian way of doing things especially with the diversity in religions, ethnicities, languages, and historical political ideologies, and etc.

    ​@@jhbq Because it was a vassel state of India after independence just like many princely states that where part of British Raj that end up becoming vassel state then joined union of India. Heck, My family lived in Travancore Kingdom but it got dissolved in 1949 to make a part of state called Kerala just like Sikkim which become a state.

    The ASEAN region really is one people should watch as the next booming economic and cultural power house! Indonesia if it ever gets its shit together could really be another global super power in the making! I mean 210 million people live in Java and Sumatra ALONE!     Why didn't the video start from the very first attempts of south east western aligned nations to form an alliance? Like the very first ome that was formed between Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, but never got anywhere due to the Philippines and Malaysia having disputes on their owm

    ​@@outerspace7391 maphilindo and seato had different political aims. maphilindo was mainly trying to actually unite philippines, malaysia, and indonesia, or basically philippines and indonesia were to unite and eat up malaysia and singapore before it became independent from the british. seato was an anti-communist military alliance defense treaty. think of it like how there is both a NATO and EU. asean is mainly an economic bloc for the region to go with seato, but later seato went away and asean remained and accepted even vietnam and laos that are one of the commies
