Have you ever wondered where Coach Javier Mendez "Former World Champion Kickboxer" got his start? Before the UFC there was Kickboxing and other martial arts competitions, Javier was a kickboxer who started with Tae Kwondo. When the UFC was in it's early years of development, many of the fighters started seeking out a coach with a diverse background. There were not many great boxers in the early UFC initially, and fighters were looking for someone who could give them an edge. Besides Professional Boxing, there was full contact Professional Kickboxing where Javier competed. Here we take you on a journey, to where it all began. How Javier Mendez developed as a fighter, then later turned professional and soon became a coach. This is part one, where you will here about some of his fighters but not all. This list includes Frank Shamrock, Cung Le, Brian Johnston, and many more. We take you down the hall of fame for part one, at the American Kickboxing Academy. Some people are new to watching this sport, while Javier Mendez has been throwing knock out kicks and punches since the 1980s. There will be a follow up where we will include many other fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Cain Velasquez, Luke Rockhold, Josh Thompson and many more. A walk through memory lane, man. I was there at the Capitol Glass Shop, sweeping up the glass before class, training with most all of the guys listed in the early days, and joined Jav, Brian Johnston and crew for 3 UFC trips. I even hired Travis Johnson for motion capture in our boxing game! Much love always for AKA. Because of it I own IMPACT! Kickboxing Fitness!

I cracked up remembering the facebook post the other day about Master Lee fighting a bear after watching this I remember arguing with you about who would when in a fight between Jav and Master Lee Hahaha.

Love seeing the old history!! amazing to think about the humble beginnings when you started to what it all has become. Seeing the picture of Jaun reminded me of him showing me how to punch way back at Steindorf he was a great guy!!
