The Hiring Process for Engineers in Tech

Join my engineering community waitlist here: tamerxi.com/#hardwire (to help you prep for Mech Eng technical interviews)
I’ve worked at 7 start-ups and 2 big tech companies over the last few years, and I’ve interviewed with many more and I’m going to share what the hiring process in tech is like. Every company in tech takes a lot of inspiration from THE big tech companies like Apple and Google when it comes to their hiring process, but they’ll add their own little spin on it. The overall hiring process is broken into 5 steps:
00:00 Intro
00:54 The Overall Process
04:03 Step 1: Recruiter Screening
07:39 Step 2 & 3: Technical Interviews
12:42 Step 4: Engineering Design Challenge
15:23 Step 5: Interview Panel

If you're wondering about how to figure out which sphere was hollow, just place both spheres atop an incline ramp and let them roll to the bottom (without slipping). The hollow sphere will come last. Both spheres start with the same graviational potential energy, mgh, and we know that all this energy is converted into rotational and translational kinetic energy. The hollow sphere takes more energy to rotate around its center because all of its mass is distributed on its surface, and moment of inertia is proportional to the square distance of each mass component. Therefore, the hollow sphere will use more of its energy trying to rotate and less energy into translational motion, making it reach the bottom of the ramp last.

Hey man, I know you’re into tech companies and the startup community, but why not try automotive? Great number of fulfilling jobs in mechanical design engineering, and a lot of innovation on the horizon!

@K1NG_GTR35 yea I agree. He should go for some sort of automotive, energy, or construction job. Some of those jobs can pay well (good enough) and be fulfilling.

My theory on why the hex sockets are the standard is that it allows more angles to turn a screw in a tight space. You can rotate every 60 degrees, vs a triangle socket would only allow you to reinsert every 180 degrees

Recentaly I went to an interview for a company that I didn't really care about. it was more like a practice to me. Process was nice and an engineer did the interview which was great. Problem for them is that I am currently working for another company and they needed someone right away. So they said that I was disqualified because of that? wut. This is the second time this happens, they want somebody that is not working? haha. that makes no sense but whatever
