Nagao Kanekoma actually is the name of the company. Nagao is the family name and the old guy making these is called Motosuke Nagao.. Recently the 5th generation of the Nagao family took over things and is continuing the craft. The name of the younger maker is Mitsuo Nagao. Great history and a classic for sure! Love the Higos..

Hey man you seem to know a lot about the subject. I love my higonokami knives but I wanted one straight from the hands of the master. Unfortunately finding one proved to be a difficult task, but that’s another story. Could you tell me what’s the difference between “banshu hamono” made higonokamis and “Nagao Kanekoma” ones. So far the only difference I was able to find is the packaging. They both come in signature yellow boxes but Kanekoma made ones have “higonokami” spelled on them in Latin alphabet. This writing can also be found on different higonokami variants like the “tokubetsu tedukuri” and tanto version. Do you know the difference between these two companies, and why banshu hamono is allowed to use the name higonokami (though it doesn’t appear on the boxes)?

@@KanekiKen-lm1dl they never trademarked the name higonokami I think. But the Nagao ones are the originals. If you want a store where you can find the ones made by the older generation check out the dictum store.. I don‘t like the store that much tbh but the tools are legit. Also if you just want any Nagao one, you can buy them directly from their Amazon shop.

My first time in Japan I was initiated to a haiku : I am always Japanese but never Japanese. It has logged in my head like a bad earworm of music. You just resurected it.
