My dad drove bus for this tour the California leg, he was with Kris and his 17yr old son. It was some good stories, my dad always had stories he drove for greyhound for 35 yrs. But he came home with so much stuff from this tour, including a backstage pass signed by all of them, priceless. My dad died in 2012 from cancer at 78, but he had a life full of stories. FYI there were some Kris and smoking stories and how his son was a wild child, i think his name was Casey, not sure.
I’ve heard this song for YEARS and I just now figured that they are incarnations of the same spirit at different times. 🤦♀️

What did your grandparents say about your music style?
@lairdsmith9608

@@dennisjakobsen1648 Are you trying to start a debate?. Real music was around in the late 1800's and early 1900's that my grandparents listened too, not mindless beats for cavemen that people listen today. Modern music has NO skill or talent from the musicians its just people selling a message of sin to manipulate the children to support evil (in my opinion). The highwaymen is great
It's impressive to me that a country song can be about armed banditry, sailing, large-scale construction projects, interstellar space travel and reincarnation.
@michaelheath2866

It was the 70's. The age of free love (and drugs) hadn't quite faded yet, and so you had some very unique ballads coming up in that time. You couldn't even say the 70's was anything in particular musically. There were soooo many good tunes coming from everywhere back then, that whole decade was swimming in gold and this was a part of that. It often felt like it was time to toss the old rules out of what couldn't be done and just go with the flow. These Boys were among those who helped revitalize country in a way no one had thought possible, and we'll all love them for it forever.

Not originally a country song. Written and first recorded by Jimmy Webb, produced by George Martin in 1977. Much more pop and orchestral. Webb was a friend of Waylon Jennings who recorded several of his songs including “MacArthur Park.”
@thejuliebean
4 жыл бұрын
@@tonkaGuy888 You aren't wrong, but for me the point is that country embraced the song and made it their own by implementing a country feel and beat. The lyrics being what they are were still embraced by country, which involves the song into the canon of country music. So the original comment can still be applicable. If country stars had said, "Hey this thematic content isn't country and we don't want to do it" then it wouldn't be a country music song. But it is because Webb's inspired lyrics inspired these stars as well.
No matter how many times I hear this song, it's never long enough.

Look up on YT Marty Stuart's commenting about presenting this song to Johnny Cash. Marty was thinking of the 4 guys and knew they wouldn't have to sing the verses together/harmonize which was good because of Willie's and Johnny's voices being so different. Marty said Johnny said "I want the one about the spaceship." The Stuart quote is only a couple of minutes long and easy to find.

Imagine listening this tune in a 65 mustang convertible driving on route 66 into dawn.... 😍
I don't listen to this genre much. But I play this one video probably 50 times a month, with just my headphones. Isn't that odd?

I am an ice cream man; In Mr. Whippy I abide; Jars of sprinkles by my side. Many an ice cream in the pictures, I don't have. If the weather got better, then I would be glad. I changed my jingle in the Spring of '95 But I am still alive. And I'll be back again and again and again and again.....
Kris Kristofferson...best songwriter ever ..deserved much more recognition ❤
Its crazy how many people come back to this everyday... this song is a masterpiece!

This is the best-sounding version of this song, in my opinion. Great video quality too.

Glen Campbell’s version is the best-sounding
Doctor: "I'm sorry sir, you have two minutes left to live. Is there anything we can do to make you more comfortable?" Patient: "Play "Highwayman" by the Highwaymen. The live version..." Doctor: "Sir...I'm sorry...that song is two minutes and fifty four seconds...you won't get to finish the song..." Death, smoking a cigar in the corner: "I'll wait. You play that man his song."

I've told my friends that if I ever had a time machine, I would go to this concert. I wouldn't want to mess up time, or start a war, but put me at Nassau Coliseum on March 14, 1990, and I'd be a happy man.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the brilliant guitar playing of Reggie Young? The man was a legendary session guitarist in Memphis and Nashville. His band once toured with The Beatles as their opening act. He played guitar on some of the biggest hits of artists such as Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson. He was also a member of Jimmy Buffet's Coral Reefer Band.

Just a reminder to all the boss babes of the world, the independent "I don't need no man" ladies out there... it's the blood, sweat and tears of those men who built this world. It's those same men that keep it, maintain it and protect you from the cold today. So... maybe show a little respect.

I can’t help but cry to this song. It was around 2AM. My brother and I sobbing because the previous night my Dad stopped breathing and was rushed to the hospital. I only got 3 hours of sleep, but that meant nothing to me, I was waiting every minute until the doctor would call for an update. I played this song all night. Unfortunately my dad left us a few hours shortly. He still lives though, in my heart. I will try my best to become a man he would be proud of.
