We review Tim's 2014 Chrysler 300 SRT 8. If not the highest, amongst the highest mileage 300 SRT8 in the country. A couple iterations of the exhaust, brass monkey wheels, brakes, and a tune. This car has seen it all and is still an incredible daily driver. Let me know how you liked this style of review and any other suggestions. Cheers friends, thanks for watching 🤘

To be fair, there are other manufacturers that make MDS engines and they all have lifter issues. So it's not just Mopar. Also, love seeing how much fun you guys are having.

hey, I wanted to ask if they are good quality now/reliable as well? My dad owned a 98 durango for maby 12-13 years, he owned a stratus, 07 dodge grand caravan and a dart. He sold most of the dodges because he was either putting too much into it to get it fixed or fixing it wasnt worth the pice. We were looking at the new Durango because we were going to get another 3 row suv. We were looking at it but price wise wasnt worth it, factor in his experience with his previous dodge products. My only question is, did chrysler/dodge change their build quality?

Can't you just replace the lifters, valve springs, valves, and pushrods to solve the lifter issue? The same thing happened in my G8 GT, DoD system failed causing a lifter to drop and wipe out the cam. Swapping out all the above with better, non MDS ones, would surely fix the issue no?

Hey my HEMI-Friend´s, nice greetings from Bavaria (Germany) & also an HEMI Guy, congratulations for this beautyful 300C! But when i heared that you had this kind of overheating, i´ve to say that this could be a big problem fpr this engines, i modified my Hemi Charger with a lot of things to let it run cooler and changed the stock, 16 years old rubber hoses to silicone ones, especially these both between radiator and engine. You should take care about overheating issues, and also to bleeding the cooling system sometimes again, what could prevent such things like dropping valve seats. Even because this is that Nr.1 issue what let valve seats drop at these HEMI engines and it isn´t anything what must be. It´s really good to prevent. But however, i can tell you, what i did that i can prevent issues of overheating and also to make this kind of ca so much more reliable. 15-Row Motor Oil Radiator with an 180°F Oil Thermostat, what let the relatively high oil temperatures drop a lot. I also use an 180°F Thermostat for the cooling water system, what made the same and so the over all temperatures in operating droped to a very nice temperature level down. I also changed the 5W20 chysler recommended 5W20 into 0W40 with ESTER Additives, because in my eyes an Motor Oil with an warm Visc Grade of 20 is so low and thinns out in warmer operating temps. Yes that was that what i did with silicone hoses and i´m still working on the old Daytona, because it has also 136000mls and it´s my project for reliability and also to build something what isn´t common for these modern Muscles; A "Drift Muscle", and for this i choose BC Coilovers and 19x10.5 Rims in an classic DRIFT/JDM Style, really seroíous concave and really really wide with 10.5 inch at front & rearend. It was also importand to use 19´s instead 20´s, because so the whole car got an so sleak, so wide look, too. 20mm spacers per side with 22mm rim offset makes effective offset of 2mm, especially at the frontend, yes, THATS A WIDE TRACK & STANCE :) And at the front 10.5 inch wide rims i use 255/45, at the rear i use 295/40 R19 tires. You should really take a look at this Charger, because for sure, you´ve never seen any other Mopar in this styling and i hope you´ll enjoy :) However, if you´ll you could take your car Pictures but i think Bavaria, over the pond is a little far away?! Cheers Till

I´m an Auto-Designer/Stlist, you could tell me if you´re interested in doing projects like combination of Picture/Photoes you do about cars and my hand drawn Styling Creations... :) However, for example, i´ve drawn/Projects for a New Version of an Dodge Charger, Chrysler Imperial, Ford Torino & many more, even because i really love US Cars at most and US Classic cars are my biggest love about cars :) So i also restore US Classic Cars and doing not only with these modern Muscles, for example i restore an 67 Chevy Caprice/Impala 4 Door Hardtop, like it is used for the T Show Supernatural. It´s a full restoration, what i do completely by myself, with sheet metal rebuild and all such things. There isn´t anything on cars what i do not, whithout paint jobs, that is the only thing what i can´t do by myself :) Have a great day Guys, hope to see more Videos like this of you, Thank you very much! Cheers Till =)

Your Oppinion of what couses the "Lifter Failure"; The Angle isn´t any problem, the problem are too low Oil-Volume trhough the Lifter/Cam Gallery and this could be prevented with using the "Hellcat High Volume Oil Pump". That should prevent this issue. But, it is VVT HEMI-Only, and so it isn´t the MDS. It was never the MDS. But there is allways the possibility of too less hardened Cam lobes. For ordinarry the lobes or even the Area what rolls on the Lifters is Induction hardened. And if the lobes arent hardened enough you can see what causes on so many engines out there. For reality these HEMI´s are real great designs, there isn´t anything wrong whit them, but it is like i sayed; you should know what you do or what you could optimize on it to prevent the "Most common issues". Like i told above about "Valve Seat Rings dropping" or also about the "Lifter Failures"; There are real nice options to prevent this issues. I´m an engine guy and i can tell you, that the HEMI is a real great design and there isn´t many out there about engines what are this reliable, has this big potential, has that great features and for example, for reality it is one of the most interesting future engines or even for Chrysler the HEMI V8 OHV has so an high potential for future, that it was that silly and bad, if they wouldn´t use this high potential V8´s for future cars and Platforms. Because these HEMI GEN II Engines has that much and big potential, i can´t beleave that so many Car Guys choose an LS or even, do out the HEMI for an LS Swap. That´s not real a great job. Because the HEMI GEN III has a Design & all features,... to get the same reliablility and possibilities like the famous and so nice LS. The HEMI is actual also so great like the LS in my eyes. And i´m not an "MOPAR Guy" or even an Car Guy what has only eyes for Mopars. No. However it is an Ford, GM or Chrysler, i like them all. But when i think about an 4 Door Sedan, in this Full size class there is no Ford and no GM out there what is nearly this good and nice like the LX/LD Platform Chrysler Cars. It was so great if Ford hadn´t canceled the Crown Vic and instead canceling they had made an new, nice Body with an kind of "Retro Styling" with using V8´s in this "Panther Platform" the C.Vic was made on. Because this kind of car was also great an canceling it, especially for an FWD V6 vehicle, what was the sad same about the 96 Chevy Impala/Caprice Generation, that was a real big fail for Ford & GM. Because they had real nice Body On Frame Design Full Size Platform Cars with the 96 Impala/Caprice &/or Ford with the Crown Vic and the Panther Platform, it was so easy to make these cars so great and so successful again, if they had used an "Retro Muscle Car Styling" instead to cancel them. And so it is Mopar only, who has large sized full size sedans with RWD, V8 Engines and a real great Styling and Design. Chrysler has the highest postential Car/s in this class. And if Chrysler would cancel the Charger, 300C was the death for them...

The lifter failure is caused by lack of oil. I love these engines but my first mod is a higher pressure and volume oil pump. I also run 10w-30. Changed a lot of hemis when I worked at Chrysler.

Good vid but the owner is very uneducated, there is no height differences, in fact my 2012 300srt probabaly sits lower than a 2014 because the suspension is worn more. The taillights are different because those are what came on the new 300s or john varvatos model for the later years. You can order them from the dealership. The hellcat wheels are a tragedy on the 300. Also the lifter issue doesn't ruin the whole engine, i heard mine ticking and squeaking and it threw codes. I had it opened up as i suspected a lifter had failed and it had just started to wear the cam, so i had it rebuilt with hellcat lifters and comp cam , stage 2 heads. Why does he say 2016 headers, the headers are the same for every 6.4. 2012 has sport/track mode, they don't do much anyways. It costs 1500$ to change your gearing if you want faster acceleration. The torque converter can't handle the power?? Then he says he doesn't like the gangster mafia look of the car so he puts a Heisenberg license plate on it. I owned mine since 2013, its FBO + cam/heads, 3200 stall + 3.92 rear diff. Makes 495 whp and 447 wtq.

You can do a refresh on the top end. New lifters, cam, gaskets, seals, sensors, timing set, inspect & redo the heads, fresh high VOLUME oil pump, new water pump & hoses, and completely flush the coolant system BEFORE you tear it down. That should net you another completely safe 140k miles.

Lifters are the source of the problem. Delete the MDS and magically your risk of failure AND the “Hemi tick” goes away.

  • @Tanner_Teves

Delete it how exactly? I have a Pontiac G8 GT and it suffers a similar issue. For our platform there are two ways of deleting the AFM, via a tune or swapping out all the mechanical parts. If this car's lifter issue can be solved by swapping out the lifters, pushrods, valve springs, and valves with non-MDS ones then I would seriously consider this as my next car. I've just never seen people say what the root cause of this is, but I would assume it's similar to my G8's problem as well

@@Mr1T2X1 Okay cool, that's what I figured the fix would be. The guy in the video doesn't seem too knowledgeable about pushrod V8's 😂. They're great motors but once you put some mechanical system in there to shut off half the cylinders that sounds like an accident waiting to happen haha
